MODULE 4 DISCUSSION
In this module, the most interesting thing for me is learning a new act
called the” Clean Water Act”. From this new act, l learned the ways to prevent
pollution and the similarities between CWA(clean water act) and CAA(clean air
act). So, l will write this discussion to illustrate what is CWA and what are the
similarities between CWA and CAA.
First, l will introduce what is the similarities between CWA and CAA. As l
write in the former assignment, CAA is the act to protect the air and to make
some laws to limit the emission of dirty gases into the atmosphere. So, CWA is
similar to CAA, a law to limit the pollution of water to protect the environment.
From this act, it has two similar things with CAA, the first thing is the policy
perspective. Just like CAA, it can make a long-term goal to make sure that this
act will achieve its purpose. Also, it has a political purpose, too. So it can
overcome criticism and doubts from companies and make this act become
successful, and make this act become the sense in environmental protection.
Then, l will introduce what is the ways that CWA protects water. As l
mentioned in the last paragraph, CWA is an act that has lots of ways to deal
with environmental pollution. So, to show how CWA protect water, l will show
three things that pollute water really badly: The point sources which from
factories, indirect sources which from facilities that empty their waste into the
local sewage system, and the nonpoint sources come from land users.
Therefore, to prevent the runoff of these pollutions, in 1965, congress via the
1965 Water Quality Act. In the beginning, the technology limitation made it
really difficult to protect water. But in 1972, CWA was passed, and it provided
goals to protect marine life, and the National Water Commission provided acts
and the technology to help to clean the dirty water. As a result, the water
become clean again.
Ao, that’s all l want to say in CWA.
