I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Allah for granting me the strength, knowledge,
wisdom, and good health throughout the preparation of this Community Service Learning
project.
I also wish to thank the administration of Kazuko Girls Comprehensive School for creating a
conducive learning environment and for giving students an opportunity to participate in
community service learning activities that promote positive change in society.
Special appreciation goes to my teachers for their continuous guidance, support, encouragement,
and valuable advice during the development of this project.

This proposal focuses on improving waste management within Kazuko Girls Comprehensive
School and the surrounding community. Improper disposal of waste causes environmental
pollution, bad odor, diseases, and an unhealthy learning environment.
The project seeks to promote cleanliness and proper hygiene in the school by encouraging
recycling and responsible waste disposal practices. Activities such as school clean-up exercises,
waste separation, and environmental awareness programs will be carried out.
Through this project, learners will develop teamwork, leadership, responsibility, and
environmental conservation skills.

Waste management refers to the proper collection, handling, disposal, and recycling of waste
materials in order to maintain a clean and safe environment. Every day, schools generate
different types of waste such as plastics, papers, food remains, and other unwanted materials.
Improper waste disposal may lead to environmental pollution, spread of diseases, unpleasant
odors, and poor sanitation. Therefore, this project aims at educating learners on the importance
of cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental conservation.
The project also encourages students to practice responsible waste disposal methods and to
participate actively in environmental protection activities.

Kazuko Girls Comprehensive School experiences challenges related to improper disposal of
waste materials such as plastic bottles, papers, food remains, and polythene bags.
Some students dispose of waste carelessly, leading to environmental pollution and an untidy
school compound. This situation affects the learning environment and may also contribute to the
spread of diseases.
The project therefore seeks to address these challenges by promoting proper waste management
practices within the school.

Learners need to understand the value of environmental conservation and personal responsibility
in waste management.
This project will help learners to:
• Develop environmental awareness
• Practice proper hygiene and sanitation
• Learn teamwork and leadership skills
• Participate in community service activities
• Develop responsible behavior towards the environment

The project is also aligned with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), which emphasizes
practical learning and active participation.

This project will be conducted within Kazuko Girls Comprehensive School and nearby areas
around the school.
The project activities will include:
• Cleaning the school compound
• Collection and separation of waste
• Creating awareness on proper waste disposal
• Encouraging recycling and reuse of materials
• Installing waste bins at strategic areas
The project targets learners, teachers, and members of the surrounding community.

This project is guided by the Environmental Conservation Theory, which emphasizes the
importance of protecting the environment through responsible behavior and sustainable
practices.
The theory encourages individuals and communities to participate actively in environmental
protection activities such as waste reduction, recycling, and maintaining cleanliness.
By applying this theory, learners will understand the importance of environmental conservation
and develop positive attitudes towards proper waste management.

[Link] METHODOLOGY
The project will use participatory and practical methods during implementation. Observation will
be used to identify areas affected by poor waste disposal within the school compound. Group
discussions and environmental awareness sessions will also be conducted to educate learners on
the importance of proper waste management and environmental cleanliness.
Learner participation, demonstration methods, and cleaning activities will be used to promote
teamwork, responsibility, and practical learning among students. Monitoring and evaluation
methods will also be applied to assess the progress and effectiveness of the project activities.

16. PROJECT MONITORING AND EVALUATION
The project will be monitored by teachers, student leaders, and project members to ensure proper
implementation of waste management activities within the school. Regular inspections and
observation will be conducted to monitor cleanliness, proper waste disposal, and learner
participation during cleaning activities.
According to National Environment Management Authority (2020), continuous monitoring helps
improve environmental cleanliness and promotes responsible waste management practices.
Evaluation of the project will be done by assessing changes in the school environment, reduction
of litter within the compound, proper use of dustbins, and active participation of learners in
maintaining cleanliness and environmental conservation.
