1-Hour Lesson Plan: WH-Questions

■ Objectives
1 Recognize and use the basic WH-words.
2 Form and answer simple WH-questions in English.
3 Practice through speaking, games, and roleplay.

0:00 – 0:05 (Warm-up)


- Greeting: 'Hello! How are you?' (gesture a smile, encourage answer).
- Quick chat: Show a few pictures (e.g., a cat, a house, a clock). Ask 'What is it?' → She answers
with one word.

0:05 – 0:15 (Introduction to WH-words)


1 Write colorful flashcards with WH-words: What, Where, Who, When, Why, How.
2 Explain simply with gestures:
3 - What = thing (show objects).
4 - Where = place (point around).
5 - Who = person (point to you/her).
6 - When = time (show clock/calendar).
7 - Why = reason (hands up 'why??').
8 - How = way (gesture 'how?').
9 Practice repetition (say, she repeats).

0:15 – 0:25 (Controlled Practice: Matching Game)


1 Give example questions (with visuals):
2 - What is this? (show a pen)
3 - Where is the cat? (picture in a box)
4 - Who is he? (picture of a famous singer)
5 - When is your birthday?
6 - Why are you happy? (act happy)
7 - How are you today?
8 Student matches WH-word with correct answer type.

1 Play a 'Teacher asks – Student moves' game:

4 - Ask: 'What is this?' → Hold up objects.
5 Switch roles: Student asks YOU questions (give her support).

1 Ask her about herself with WH-questions:
2 - What is your favorite color?
3 - Where do you live?
4 - Who is your best friend?
5 - When is your birthday?
6 - Why do you like music?
7 - How are you today?
8 Encourage short answers. Write them down together in her notebook.

0:50 – 0:58 (Fun Game – Quick Fire)


- Show flashcards quickly; she must answer in 3 seconds.
- Example: Hold a picture of pizza → ask 'What is it?'
- Use timer or clap hands to make it exciting.

0:58 – 1:00 (Wrap-up)


- Review: 'Today we learned… What, Where, Who, When, Why, How.'
- Ask her one question for each WH-word as a final check.
- End with a positive note: 'Great job! ■'
