 Computer software is a set of instructions or programs that tell the computer what to do.
 Without software, hardware cannot perform any tasks.
 Software and hardware work together and depend on each other.

🧠 Types of Software

There are two main types of software:

Type Purpose
System Software Controls and manages hardware and basic system operations.
Application Software Helps users perform specific tasks like writing, calculating, or designing.

⚙️System Software

System software runs in the background and helps the computer function properly.

1. Operating System (OS)

o Most important system software.
o Controls the computer and manages files, devices, and programs.
o Examples: Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows XP.
2. Utility Programs
o Help maintain and improve computer performance.
o Examples: Backup software, antivirus, data recovery tools.
3. Language Translators
o Convert programming languages into machine language.
o Examples: Compilers and interpreters.

🧑‍💻 Application Software

Application software is used by users to complete specific tasks.

1. Word Processing
o Create and edit text documents.
o Examples: Microsoft Word, WordPad, Notepad.
2. Spreadsheet
o Organize and calculate data in tables.
o Examples: Microsoft Excel, FoxPro.
