READING
Read the text carefully and answer all the questions.
A Home to Remember
My name is Layla, and I have just moved into my new
home with my family. We used to live in a flat in the city
centre, but we always dreamed of having more space. Last
month, we moved into a detached house in a quiet
neighbourhood outside the city. I am very excited about our
new life here.
The house has two floors. Downstairs, there is a large sitting room with big windows that
let in a lot of natural light. There is a comfortable sofa, a coffee table, and a colourful rug on
the wooden floor. Next to the sitting room is the dining room, where we have our meals
together as a family. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped. It has a dishwasher, an oven, a
cooker, and a large freezer. There is also a small utility room next to the kitchen where we
keep the washing machine and do the laundry.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. My bedroom is my favourite room
in the house. It has a large wardrobe, a bedside table with a small lamp, and a soft pillow on
my bed. I also have a desk where I do my homework every evening. My parents’ room has a
balcony with a beautiful view of the garden. My younger brother Amir’s room is smaller, but
he loves it because it faces the garden too.
The garden is one of the best features of the house. We have a terrace where we enjoy our
breakfast on sunny mornings. My mother is already planting flowers and vegetables near the
fence. At the moment, my father is building a small wooden table for the terrace so that we
can sit outside more comfortably. Everyone in the family helps with the household chores. My
mother usually does the cooking and sometimes irons the clothes in the sitting room. My
father hoovers the carpet every weekend and washes the dishes after dinner. Amir makes his
bed every morning, and I tidy up the bathroom and take out the rubbish. We believe that
taking care of our home together makes it a warmer and happier place to live. After all, there
is no place like home!
