INTRODUCTION
Education is an important thing that helps student develop their knowledge, abilities and
skills. It shapes minds and boost confidence, needed for academic success and personal growth.
Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) based learning tool have been created as significant factors
influencing how student learn and perform in school. These tools can be truly beneficial: they
help explain difficult lessons, provide a quick feedback, and make easier to learn new
knowledge. Numerous studies show that when it used properly, AI can boost student engagement
and improve academic performance ( Philippine Education Research Association, 2024 ).
The growing intergeneration of AI-based learning tools in the Philippines public schools
has brought a serious problem that emerged—one that is already felt at Camalig National High
School with over 2,000+ students from Grade 7 to 12. Many students are now abusing AI tool:
they use them to cheat on exams, complete assignments and projects without putting in their own
thoughts or effort, and rely solely on technology to do all their school work. Concrete evidence
of this problem exists in school records, which show that while assignment submission and
performance hand on hands-on activities. Teachers observation also indicate that many students
who misuse AI struggle to explain their work or demonstrate genuine understanding of lessons.
However, what remains understudied is the specific effects of AI misuse — including
cheating, over-reliance, and lack of personal effort - on students' academic performance and skill
development. This study aims to fill this gap by providing empirical evidence on the negative
effects of AI misuse on student at Camalig National High School, as well as how responsible use
can still support learning ans address gaps in current research on preventing misuse and
promoting meaningful learning.
The main purpose of this research is to examine the effect of AI-based learning tools on
students at Camalig National High School, with a focus on how misuse impacts their academic
performance and ability to develop skills. Specifically, the study aims to assess how relying on
AI instead of thinking independently and understood the long-term implications for their future
readiness. It also seeks to clarify how AI can be used appropriately to support learning while
preventing abuse.
Therefore, this study aims to determine the effects of AI-based learning tools on students'
academic performance at Camalig National High School, with a particular focus on determining
the impact of misusing AI tools. This study seeks to answer the following questions:
1. Is there important difference in a academic performance between the student who use AI tools
responsibly and those students who misused AI tools?
2. How does AI tools affects the critical thinking skills of the students at Camalig National High
School?
3. What are the impact of AI-based learning tools on the academic performance of students in
Camalig National High School?
The findings of this study is to benefit student, teacher and future researcher. students may
become aware of how to use AI tools properly and responsibly. teacher can create a better rules for using
AI, and to notice when it's being misused .
