Pacemaker Project

A pacemaker is a biomedical electronic device that regulates abnormal heart rhythms by sending electrical signals to maintain a normal heartbeat. It is essential for patients with irregular heartbeats and comes in various types, including single chamber and biventricular. While effective in improving quality of life, pacemakers require battery replacements and involve surgical risks.

Introduction

A pacemaker is a small electronic device used to regulate abnormal heart rhythms. It sends
electrical signals to maintain a normal heartbeat. It is an important application of biomedical and
electrical engineering.

Human Heart System

The heart works using electrical signals. When these signals become irregular, it affects heartbeat.
A pacemaker helps restore proper rhythm.

Need for Pacemaker

Pacemakers are needed when heart beats too slow or irregular. They help prevent serious health
issues and improve patient life.

Types of Pacemakers

Single chamber, Dual chamber, Biventricular.

Components

Pulse generator, Battery, Leads (wires), Sensors.

Working Principle

Pacemaker detects heart activity and sends signals when needed to maintain normal rhythm.

Surgery

It is implanted under the skin near chest. Leads are connected to heart.

Advantages

Maintains heart rate, Improves life quality, Reliable device.

Limitations

Battery replacement needed, Surgery risk, Cost.

Future Technology

Modern pacemakers are wireless, smaller, and AI-based for better monitoring.

Conclusion

Pacemakers are life-saving biomedical devices combining electronics and medicine to control heart
rhythm effectively.
