Sounds like science fiction? Well… it’s not. It’s our reality.

Welcome to the era of deepfakes.

Deepfakes are a product of advanced artificial intelligence that can create highly realistic fake
videos, images, and audio. They can make anyone appear to say or do anything—without their
consent, without their knowledge, and without it ever happening.

And that brings us to a terrifying question . If seeing is no longer believing, then what is truth? For
centuries, we trusted what we saw.

“Seeing is believing,” we were told. But today—seeing is no longer believing…seeing is


questioning.

Deepfakes are slowly eroding the very foundation of trust in our society.

In politics, they can spread misinformation and manipulate public opinion. In society, they can
destroy reputations within minutes. And in personal lives, they can lead to harassment, blackmail,
and emotional harm. And the most dangerous part is this—by the time a deepfake is exposed,
millions may have already believed it. We are not just facing fake news anymore. We are facing
fake reality.

This is why many call it “the death of truth.”

But is truth really dying? Or are we simply failing to protect it? Truth does not disappear on its
own. It fades when people stop questioning, stop verifying, and start believing everything they see.
Technology created deepfakes—but technology alone cannot solve this problem. It needs
awareness. It needs responsibility. It needs us. As students and as responsible digital citizens, we
must learn to think critically. We must question what we see, verify what we hear, and pause before
we share anything online. Because in a world full of artificial intelligence, let us not lose our real
intelligence. Let us protect truth, question illusions, and stand for authenticity. Because the moment
we stop caring about truth… that is the moment it truly dies. And remember— The mirror is
cracking. It’s time we stop looking at the reflection… and start looking at the glass.
