Week 1: Introduction to Information Systems

Tutorial

1. List and briefly explain the FIVE (5) components of Information Systems. Is
“information” one of the components? Why?

2. Discuss FIVE (5) types of Information Systems and provide ONE (1) example for
each. Identify other types of IS that were not mentioned during the lecture and
discuss each type.

3. Provide examples for these systems:

i) Enterprise applications
ii) Legacy system
iii) Vertical system
iv) Horizontal system

4. How can we classify the different types of Information Systems? Discuss with
the aid of a diagram/visualization

5. Identify a current trend in Information System and discuss it using the five
components of IS

6. Discuss the importance of Information Systems.
