WHO (World Health Organisation)

1, Intro:

- a specialized United Nations agency


- established on 7 April 1948
- its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland
- with stations and offices in over 150 countries
- currently has 194 member states (since January 2021)
- Viet Nam has become a member since 17 May 1950

2, History:

- a global organisation overseeing global health  plan to creation of WHO (1945)


- (1946) WHO constitution is drafted and approved at the International Health Conference in
New York City.
- (1947) First ever global disease-tracking service
- (1950-now) discovery of various kinds of antibiotics and vaccines; many initiatives, funds,
commitments, and goals to protect global health (such as: controlling Ebola, Covid-19
pandemics, thorough treatment many diseases.

3, Aims:

+ leads and champions global efforts to achieve better health for all

+ give an equal chance at safe and healthy life for everyone

+ targets on promoting health, keeping the world safe and serving the vulnerable

 Set the Triple Billion Targets:


- 1 billion more people benefit from UHC( Universal Heatlh Coverage)
- -> ensure access to health as a human right like: get medicines and health products with
needs; help a sustainable financing.
- 1 billion more people are better protected from health emergencies.
- -> support countries to prepare for, detect, respond to and recover from health
emergencies
- 1 billion more people ẹnoy better heath and well-being
- -> address the root causes of health problems, promote wellness and address physical,
psychological, and environmental health risks; control social and environmental factors for a
healthy living

4, Activities:

a global organisation that creat to protect global health

some main activities:

- Disease prevention and control by monitoring, warning, responding pandemics and


infections diseases (covid-19, malaria, HIV/AIDS)
- Set international standards for health, food safety, medicines, vaccines,...
- Address nutrition and public health problems by monitoring reproductive health, nutrition,
food security, environmental health
- Research and data by collecting, analyzing and publishing global health reports with
solutions of some ways to prevent and protect.
5, Viet Nam:

One of the most United Nations agencies to support the Vietnamese health sector directly since the
end of the war and reunfication of the country.

 Set three main strategic priorities:


- Strengthening key health system fuctions to deliver the system objectives, towards universial
health coverage.
- Building sustainable national capacities and partnership to ensure public health securtiy and
safety
- Managing effectively communicable and noncommunicable diseases of public health
importance.
