I.
Part 1
Do you work or are you a student?
I’m a fourth-year student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. I
study Medical Physics, and right now, I’m doing an internship at Military Central
Hospital 108.
1. (Work)
What kind of work do you do?
In my internship, I work with medical imaging and radiation therapy. I help with
analyzing images and learning how to plan a planning to treat a tumor cancer. It’s
a great way to apply what I learn in university.
What do you find most interesting about your work? (Why?)
In my internship, I work with medical imaging and radiation therapy. I help with
analyzing images and learning how different machines work in hospitals. It’s a
great way to apply what I learn in university.
Which is more important to you – the people you work with or the work you do?
(Why?)
I think the people I work with matter more. In a hospital, teamwork is very
important. I learn a lot from experienced doctors and medical physicists. They help
me understand real-life applications of medical physics.
Do you work best in the morning or the afternoon? (Why?)
I work best in the morning because I feel more focused and energetic. In the
afternoon, I sometimes feel a bit tired. That’s why I try to do important tasks in the
morning.
2. Study
1. What do you study?
I am currently studying Medical Physics at Hanoi University of Science and
Technology. My course focuses on applying physics principles in medicine,
especially in medical imaging and radiation therapy.
focuses on: tập trung chính vào cái gì
focuse on + Ving/Noun
physics principles: nguyên tắc vật lý
2. What do you find most interesting about your studies? (Why?)
I find medical imaging the most interesting because it plays a crucial role in
diagnosing diseases. Learning how technologies like SPECT and MRI work
fascinates me, as they help doctors see inside the human body without
surgery.
Find sth (the most)+ adj: Cảm nhận về điều gì đó
plays a crucial role in + Ving: đóng vai trò quan trọng
diagnose (v): chẩn đoán
facinate (v): làm say mê
surgery (n): phẫu thuật
3. Which is more important to you—the teachers or the other students on your
course? (Why?)
Both are important, but I think teachers have a bigger impact because they provide
knowledge and guidance. However, studying with classmates is also beneficial
since we can exchange ideas and help each other understand difficult concepts.
4. How much time do you spend studying every week?
On average, I spend around 30 to 40 hours studying each week. This includes
attending lectures, doing assignments, and reviewing materials. During exam
periods, I study even more.
5. How do you usually travel to the city where you study?
I live in Hanoi, so I don’t have to travel far. I usually go to university by motorbike,
which is the most convenient way to get around the city. It takes me about 20
minutes to reach my campus.
6. Do you study best in the morning or the afternoon? (Why?)
I study best in the morning because my mind is fresh and focused after a good
night’s sleep. Also, the environment is quieter, which helps me concentrate better.
7. Have you always wanted to study this subject/ these subjects? (Why/ Why not?)
To be honest, I wasn’t sure about medical physics at first. However, after learning
more about how it combines physics and healthcare, I became really passionate
about it. Now, I feel that I made the right choice.
People
1. Are the people in your neighborhood nice and friendly?
Of course, my family moved into my village in 2008, and the first time I met my
neighborhood, I felt they were quite approachable and hospitable. One day my
motorbike broke and I could not start the engine, my neighbor asked me to pick me
up to school that day, which made me feel very grateful
2. Do you know any of your neighbors?
Yes, I do. I know quite a few of my neighbors, but the one I’m closest to is Mr.
Quân. He is an elderly carpenter who has lived next door to me for years. He’s
very friendly and often shares interesting stories from his life. I sometimes visit his
workshop, where he teaches me mechanical skills.
3. Do you know any famous people in your area?
Not really. My neighborhood is quite peaceful, and I don’t think there are any
celebrities living nearby. Most of the people around here are just regular families,
which makes the area feel warm and welcoming.
Hometown
1. Which town or city do you live in now?
I currently live in Hanoi,/ the capital of Vietnam. It’s a bustling city/ with a mix of
historical landmarks/ and modern developments.
2. Are there any things you don’t like about your area?
Yes/, there are a few things that I find quite frustrating./ One major issue is traffic
congestion/, especially during rush hours./ The air quality is also a concern/ due to
vehicle emissions and construction dust./ Additionally/, the cost of living has been
rising steadily/, making it difficult for many people to afford housing./
3. Do you think you will continue to live there for a long time?
I’m not entirely sure./ On one hand,/ Hanoi offers many career opportunities/ and
convenient amenities./ On the other hand, if I get a chance to study or work
abroad,/ I might move to another country for better experiences.
4. What are some changes in the area recently?
In recent years,/ Hanoi has undergone significant urbanization/. Many new high-
rise buildings and shopping malls have been constructed./ Public transportation
has also improved with the introduction of the metro system,/ which helps reduce
traffic congestion to some extent./
1. Do you live in a house or an apartment?
I live in a house in Hanoi. I was born and raised here, so my family has our own
house. It’s a two-story building located in a quiet neighborhood. I really enjoy
living there because it gives us more space and privacy compared to an apartment.
2. What is your favorite room in your home? (Why?)
My favorite room is my bedroom. It’s where I can relax, focus on my studies, or
simply enjoy some quiet time. I’ve decorated it with some personal items like
books, photos, and LED lights, so it feels very cozy and comfortable. It’s definitely
my little world.
3. What things make your home pleasant to live in? (Why?)
I think there are a few things. First, it’s the warmth of family — living with people
you love always makes a home more comfortable. Second, my house is well-
ventilated and gets a lot of natural light, which creates a bright and fresh
atmosphere. And finally, the neighborhood is safe and peaceful, which makes me
feel at ease.
LOST THINGS
1. What kinds of lost things have you found in a public place?
To be honest, I haven't come across many lost items in public, but I do remember
once finding a backpack left on a bench at the park. It looked like it belonged to a
student because it had textbooks and a water bottle inside. I waited for a while to
see if someone would come back to get it, and eventually, someone did.
+ Come across sth (phrasal verb): tình cờ bắt gặp
+ look like: trông giống như là
+ belonged to: thuộc về
+ wait for a while: đợi 1 chút, 1 lúc
+ eventually (adverb): in the end, sau cùng
2. What would you do if you found something valuable, for example a phone?
(Why/Why not?)
I think it really depends on where I am. If I found something like a phone at my
university, I would probably take a photo of it and post it on the university’s
Facebook group so that the owner or their friends could recognize it and get in
touch. But if I were somewhere else, like on the street or at a supermarket, I’d hand
it in to the nearest cashier or the local police station. That way, there’s a higher
chance the item will be returned to the rightful owner.
+ Be/ get/ keep in touch (phrases): giao tiếp với 1 người sử dụng đt hoặc thư
+ hand sth in : đưa cho ai đó cái gì
+ cashier (n): quầy thu ngân
+ local police station
+ higher chance
+ rightful owner : chủ sở hữu
3. Have you ever lost something which was found by a stranger? (What was
it/Why?)
Yes, actually, I once lost my phone at the gym. That day, while I was working out, I
suddenly got a phone call from my boss asking for an urgent meeting. I was in such
a rush that I ran out of the gym without realizing my phone had slipped out of my
pocket. Luckily, when I came back to look for it, a friendly guy — who has 6 packs
— had already picked it up and was waiting to return it. I was so grateful!
4. Would you ever ask for help on social media to find something you’d lost?
(Why/Why not?)
I haven’t done that before. I’m quite a careful person, so I don’t often lose things.
Usually, if I realize I’ve lost something, I go back to the last place I remember
having it and try to retrace my steps. If I still can’t find it, I tend to just let it go
instead of asking for help online.
FLOWERS
1. Do you love flowers?
Yes, I do love flowers. They always brighten up my day and create a peaceful
atmosphere. Whenever I see colorful blossoms, I feel relaxed and refreshed.
Flowers also remind me of nature’s beauty.
2. Do you know anyone who loves flowers?
Yes, my mother is crazy about flowers. She grows many kinds of flowers in her
garden and takes great care of them. She often tells me that flowers make her feel
calm and happy.
3. Are there a lot of flowers where you live?
Yes, there are plenty of flowers where I live. Many people decorate their houses
with potted flowers, and there are beautiful public parks with flower beds.
Especially in spring, you can see flowers blooming everywhere.
4. Do you take photos of flowers in your daily life?
Not very often, but sometimes I do. When I come across a particularly beautiful
flower, I like to capture it on my phone. It’s a nice way to keep memories and share
them with my friends on social media.
5. Do people in your country often send flowers to others?
Yes, it’s quite common in my country. People send flowers on birthdays,
anniversaries, or special occasions. Flowers are also given to express sympathy or
congratulations, so they are seen as meaningful gifts.
TEXT MESSAGES
1. How often do you send text messages?
I send text messages almost every day. It’s a convenient and quick way to keep in
touch with friends and family. Sometimes I also use text messages for work-related
communication.
2. Is sending text messages popular in your country?
Yes, it’s extremely popular in my country. Most people prefer texting to calling
because it’s more flexible and less intrusive. It’s also cheaper compared to making
phone calls.
3. Did you send more messages when you were younger?
Actually, yes. When I was younger, I used to text my friends all day long. These
days I still send messages, but not as frequently because I’m busier and tend to use
other apps like video calls.
4. Do you reply to messages as soon as you receive them?
It depends on the situation. If the message is urgent, I reply straight away. But if
I’m busy or need to think carefully, I might wait a bit before answering.
MEMORY
1. Are you good at memorising things?
I would say I’m quite good at memorising things. I usually remember faces, names,
and phone numbers easily. However, sometimes I do forget small details if I don’t
pay attention.
2. Have you ever forgotten something important?
Yes, I have forgotten important things before. Once, I missed an appointment
because I didn’t write it down. Since then, I’ve tried to be more organised and use
reminders on my phone.
3. What do you need to remember in your daily life?
I need to remember my work deadlines and appointments. Besides that, I also try to
remember important dates like birthdays of my family and friends. It helps me stay
connected and responsible.
4. How do you remember important things?
I usually write important things down in a notebook or set reminders on my
smartphone. That way, I won’t forget them. Sometimes I also repeat them to myself
so they stick in my mind.
II. Part 2
1. Something That Helps Me Concentrate on Work/Study
One thing that really helps me concentrate on my studies is listening to
instrumental music, especially classical or lo-fi music. I find that background music
without lyrics keeps me focused and minimizes distractions.
I usually do this whenever I study or work on assignments, whether at home,
in the library, or even at a coffee shop. The best time for me is in the evening when
it’s quieter, but sometimes I also do this in the morning if I have an important task
to complete.
I don’t always listen to the same type of music, but I do have a few go-to
playlists. For example, when I need deep focus, I prefer soft piano music, while lo-
fi beats work well for long study sessions. Occasionally, I also try nature sounds,
like rain or ocean waves, which can be very calming.
This method helps me a lot because it blocks out background noise and
creates a comfortable study environment. Without it, I might get distracted by
people talking or other noises around me. It also puts me in the right mood for
studying, making me feel more relaxed and productive. Overall, it has become an
essential part of my routine, and I believe it significantly improves my
concentration.

Câu trả lời mẫu:
The first person who springs to my mind is Mr. Quân, my elderly neighbor. He
has white hair, kind eyes, and a warm smile, which makes him very approachable.
We first met when my family moved into the neighborhood, and he was one of the
first people to welcome us.
Mr. Quân used to be a skilled carpenter, spending most of his life working with
wood and metal. Unfortunately, he lost a finger in a work accident, but that never
stopped him from continuing his craft.
I often visit his workshop, where he patiently teaches me mechanical skills like
fixing household items and crafting furniture, which is very interesting. He always
shares funny stories while working, making learning both fun and memorable.
Thanks to him, I feel more confident in mechanical skills, which I believe will help
me become a strong pillar of my family in the future.
What makes Mr. Quân truly special is his resilience and generosity. Despite facing
hardships, he remains optimistic and full of energy, always willing to help others.
He has a way of turning simple tasks into a funny one and more valuable, which
makes spending time with him truly enjoyable.

3. DESCRIBE A PLACE
3.1. Describe a place you recommend others to live, not your hometown
3.2. Describe a place away from your home and you want to visit in the
future
3.3. Describe a place with trees (forest, park…)
Introduction
As an avid traveler, there’s one particular place I always recommend for people to
live in or visit. It’s Mộc Châu, a breathtaking highland district in Sơn La,
Vietnam. I have known about this place since I was young, but it was not until I
saw travel vlogs about Mộc Châu’s tea hills and flower fields that I truly became
fascinated by its beauty.
Main Point 1
According to my research, springtime is the best season to visit Mộc Châu, as
the weather is cool and pleasant, and the entire region is covered in blooming
white plum blossoms. I can already imagine how peaceful it would be to stroll
through the valleys of plum trees, taking in the fresh air and picturesque
scenery.
Main Point 2
Mộc Châu is not only a great place to visit but also an ideal place to live. The
region is known for its tranquil environment, fresh air, and affordable cost of
living. People here can enjoy a slow-paced lifestyle, surrounded by nature,
which makes it perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of big
cities.
Another reason I recommend Mộc Châu is its unique local culture and
delicious cuisine. Residents and visitors can explore ethnic minority villages,
taste fresh dairy products, and experience traditional festivals. The
combination of natural beauty, cultural richness, and peaceful living conditions
makes Mộc Châu a dream place for many
Main point 2
I had the opportunity to visit Mộc Châu last spring, which is the best time to
see the plum blossoms in full bloom. The entire region was covered in a stunning
blanket of white flowers, making it feel like a fairytale. As I walked through the
vast plum forests, the fresh air and delicate fragrance of the blossoms created an
incredibly peaceful and refreshing atmosphere.
During my visit, I enjoyed taking photos, admiring the scenery, and learning
about the local way of life. The plum orchards are not only a beautiful attraction
but also an important part of the local economy, as farmers harvest the plums in
summer to make jams and dried fruits.
II.4. Describe a historical building you know
Well, my city is home to so many historical buildings and choosing one to
describe is a bit difficult. But, I think I will talk about Hoa Lo Prison, which is
situated right in the heart of Hanoi. Even though I consider it a historical museum
now, it actually covers a massive area with many different smaller buildings and
structures of the old prison.
Basically, as I know, the prison was originally built by the French colonists
to house Vietnamese political prisoners, but then it ironically turned into a prison
for American prisoners during the Vietnam War. Today, it has already been
transformed into a museum that showcases the many phases of Vietnamese history.
I first visited Hoa Lo two years ago on a night tour with my friends. Walking
through its narrow corridors, I was deeply moved by the exhibits showing the harsh
conditions prisoners endured. The displays told stories of incredible bravery,
determination, and sacrifice. One of the most striking images was the tiny, dimly lit
cells where prisoners were once held—it truly made me appreciate the struggles of
those who fought for our country’s freedom.
After the visit, I was overwhelmed with emotions—both admiration for the
resilience of the Vietnamese prisoners and a deep respect for their sacrifices. For
me, Hoa Lo is more than just a historical site; it’s a place that preserves our
past and teaches future generations about the strength and courage of those
who came before us.
Describe a time when you helped a child
You should say:
Who the child was
When and where you helped the child
How you helped the child
And explain how you felt about helping this child
Follow-up question: Do you often help kids? How?
2. Describe a time when you showed a younger person how to do
something new (cooking..)
You should say:
Who you taught
What/how you taught
What the result was
And explain how you felt about the experience
I’d like to talk about a time when I helped a child fix her bicycle. The child
was my neighbor’s daughter, a 9-year-old girl named Mai. This happened a few
months ago, on a Sunday afternoon, when I was at home relaxing.
I saw Mai in front of her house looking a bit frustrated. When I asked her
what was wrong, she said that her bicycle chain had come off and she didn’t know
how to fix it. She was trying to go out and play with her friends, but her bike wasn’t
working.
Since I used to fix my own bike when I was younger, I offered to help her. I
brought out some basic tools and showed her how the bike chain works. I explained
how to lift the back wheel and put the chain back onto the gear. I didn’t just do it
for her—I guided her step by step so she could try it herself. It took a bit of time,
but in the end, we got it fixed.
Mai was really happy and kept saying thank you. She even said, “Now I can
show my friends how to do it too!” That made me feel really proud. I think it’s
great to teach children small skills like this—it gives them confidence and
independence.
III. Part 3
1. Is it important for children to learn how to concentrate?
Yes, it’s very important because good concentration helps children learn effectively
and develop problem-solving skills. It also improves their performance in school
and other activities. Since kids have short attention spans, parents and teachers
should use engaging methods to help them focus.
2. What can employers do to help employees concentrate?
Employers can create a quiet and comfortable workspace, allow flexible schedules,
and encourage regular breaks. Providing clear task assignments and reducing
unnecessary meetings can also help employees stay focused and productive.
3. What kinds of jobs require higher concentration at work?
Jobs like doctors, pilots, and air traffic controllers require intense concentration
because mistakes can have serious consequences. Other professions, such as
programmers and financial analysts, also need deep focus to handle complex tasks
accurately.
4. Have you ever found it difficult to concentrate?
Yes, especially when I’m tired or stressed. Lack of sleep, social media, or
background noise often make it hard to focus. When that happens, I take short
breaks or listen to calming music to regain concentration.
5. What kinds of distractions are bothering you in your life?
My biggest distractions are my phone, social media, and environmental noise.
Stress and overthinking also make it hard to concentrate sometimes. To deal with
them, I try to set specific study periods and limit phone use.
People
1. Do you think people are familiar with their neighbors?
It depends on the area. In small towns or traditional neighborhoods, people
tend to be closer to their neighbors and often interact daily. However, in big cities,
many people are too busy with their own lives and may not even know who lives
next door. Nowadays, because of technology, people spend more time socializing
online instead of meeting in person, which also reduces neighborhood interaction.
2. How can people improve their relationships with neighbors?
There are many ways to build a good relationship with neighbors. Simple
things like greeting them, helping out when needed, or joining local community
activities. Hosting small gatherings or even just being friendly in everyday
interactions can also create a sense of belonging and trust.
3. How do children build relationships with others in a community?
Children usually make friends naturally by playing together. Schools, parks,
and community centers provide great opportunities for them to interact. Activities
like sports, group games, and school events also help kids develop friendships and
social skills. Parents can also encourage these relationships by arranging playdates
for their child.
4. Is it beneficial to get along well with neighbors?
Absolutely. Having a good relationship with neighbors creates a supportive
and friendly environment. In emergencies, neighbors can offer help quickly. It also
improves security, as people look out for each other. Plus, a strong neighborhood
community can make daily life more enjoyable and stress-free.
5. How can big businesses help local neighborhoods?
Big businesses can support local communities in many ways. They can
create jobs, sponsor local events, and invest in infrastructure improvements.
Additionally, businesses can support small local shops by collaborating with them
or providing funding for community projects.
6. Is it true that young people don’t get along with their neighbors?
Not completely, but younger generations tend to interact less with their
neighbors compared to older ones. Many young people are busy with work, studies,
or socializing online, so they may not have many face-to-face interactions with
neighbors. However, if given the opportunity, young people can still build strong
connections, especially through shared interests or community activities.
7. What negative impact does technology have on our community?
The negative impact of technology is that it reduces face-to-face interactions.
Many people now prefer to stay indoors using social media or watching TV rather
than engaging with their neighbors. This has weakened community bonds and
made some people feel isolated.
Hometown
1. What kinds of trees do people in Vietnam often plant?
In Vietnam, people often plant shade trees like banyan and tamarind in public
areas to provide relief from the heat. Fruit trees such as mango, lychee, and
jackfruit are also quite popular, especially in rural areas where people enjoy
growing their own food.
2. Which activities do people do that damage the environment?
There are several activities that have a negative impact on the environment. One
major problem is deforestation for agriculture and urban expansion. Additionally,
industrial waste and plastic pollution are serious concerns, as many factories
dump untreated waste into rivers. Another issue is excessive use of motorbikes,
which contributes to air pollution.
3. Is it important to teach students to preserve the environment?
Absolutely. Educating students about environmental conservation helps raise
awareness and instill a sense of responsibility from a young age. Schools should
introduce eco-friendly initiatives like recycling programs and tree-planting
campaigns to encourage students to take action.
4. Why do people want to go to places with many trees?
People are naturally drawn to green spaces because trees create a peaceful and
refreshing atmosphere. Trees also help reduce stress, improve air quality, and
lower temperatures, making parks and forests ideal places for relaxation. In
addition, people visit tree-filled areas for outdoor activities like hiking,
picnicking, and exercising.
Volunteer
1. Do you think people will do a lot of volunteering to help their neighbors?
Yes, I believe so, especially in close-knit communities. People are becoming
more aware of the importance of supporting one another, especially during
tough times like natural disasters or public health crises. Simple acts like
helping an elderly neighbor with groceries or tutoring local kids are becoming
more common, and I think this trend will continue.
2. Who benefits more from the volunteer services, the volunteers or the
people helped?
Honestly, I think both sides benefit, but in different ways. The people being
helped obviously receive support and care, which can make a real difference
in their lives. But volunteers also gain a lot — they develop empathy,
communication skills, and sometimes even make new friends. In many cases,
volunteering can be more rewarding for the giver than the receiver.
3. What can schools do to develop students’ awareness of volunteering?
Schools can organize community service programs or volunteering days
where students get involved in local projects. They can also invite guest
speakers from charities or NGOs to share their experiences. Besides that,
including volunteering as part of the curriculum or even giving extra credit
for participation could really motivate students to get involved.
4. What practical skills can young people teach old people?
Young people can definitely help older generations with technology, like
how to use smartphones, social media, or online banking. They can also
teach basic English, especially in countries where younger people learn it at
school. These skills can make a big difference in helping older people stay
connected and independent.
5. How can young people teach old people skills?
I think the key is patience and respect. They could organize workshops at
community centers, or simply spend time with their grandparents and teach
them one-on-one. It’s important to use simple language and go step by step.
Visual aids like pictures or demonstrations can also make learning easier for
older people.
