Introduction
Amul is India’s leading dairy cooperative brand established in 1946 in Anand, Gujarat. It
operates under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation and played a major role
in the White Revolution. The company manufactures milk, butter, cheese, chocolates,
beverages, and many other dairy products. Amul is known for quality, affordability, and
customer trust.
History and Background
Amul was created to protect dairy farmers from exploitation by middlemen. Under the
leadership of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the company transformed India’s dairy industry through
Operation Flood. Today, Amul products are sold across India and in foreign markets.
Objectives
The objectives of Amul are to provide fair income to farmers, maintain product quality,
satisfy customers, increase profits, and promote rural development through cooperative
management.
Management System
Amul follows a three-tier cooperative structure. Village societies collect milk, district unions
process it, and GCMMF handles marketing and distribution. The company uses modern
management techniques for production and sales.
Product Composition
Amul products are made using fresh milk and natural ingredients. Butter contains milk fat
and salt, while cheese includes milk proteins and bacterial cultures. Strict quality checks
ensure hygiene and nutrition.
Production Process
Milk is collected from village societies and tested for quality. It is pasteurized, homogenized,
processed, packaged, and stored in cold facilities before distribution. Automated machinery
ensures efficiency and safety.
Branding
Amul’s branding strategy is based on trust and emotional connection. The famous Amul Girl
mascot and the slogan 'The Taste of India' create strong brand recognition among
consumers.
Advertising
Amul uses television, newspapers, billboards, and social media for advertising. Its
humorous and topical advertisements attract customer attention and increase brand recall.
Marketing Mix
Amul offers high-quality products at affordable prices. Products are distributed nationwide
and promoted through strong advertising campaigns.

and bakery products. The company regularly launches innovative products to meet
changing customer demands.

Eco-friendly packaging materials are also used for sustainability.
Distribution
Amul products are distributed through wholesalers, retailers, supermarkets, and online
platforms. Its strong distribution network ensures availability across urban and rural areas.
Warehousing
Cold storage warehouses help preserve dairy products and reduce spoilage. Efficient
warehousing improves product quality and inventory management.

temperature control.
Digital Marketing
Amul promotes products through Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and digital campaigns.
Social media increases customer interaction and brand popularity.
