Australia:their relationship with the British empire

In 1770, Lieutenant James Cook charted the east coast of Australia and
claimed the land for Great Britain. In 1788, the First Fleet arrived at
Botany Bay. This marked the formal beginning of British settlement and
the establishment of Australia as a British territory. Life for Indigenous
Australians under colonial rule was catastrophic and often involved forced
violence and the destruction of their culture. Colonists considered the
land to not belong to anybody and began to clear and fence off land,
denying Indigenous people access to water sources, traditional hunting
grounds, and food, leading to starvation. The introduction of new
diseases and the destruction of traditional ways of life led to a drastic
reduction of the Indigenous [Link] beginning of Australia’s
independence was when 6 of Britain’s self governing colonies in 1901
formed a dominion. Then in 1931 the statute of Westminster was signed
8 affirmed that laws passed by the dominions will no longer be subject to
approval by the British parliament. This further increased their
independence then in 1942 that was the statue of Westminster adoption
act these legislation gave Australia full control over its foreign affairs and
affirmed its legislative independence affectively marking it as a
sovereign nation. Lastly there were the Australia acts in 1986 these
were the last steps to fully give Australia independence. They remove
the ability of the British parliament to legislate for Australia and
illuminated the power of the British monarch to disallow Australian laws
completing the process of full independence.
