Abstract
The Anti Sleep Alarm System is a safety device designed to
prevent accidents caused by driver drowsiness and fatigue.
Falling asleep while driving is one of the major reasons for road
accidents, especially during long-distance travel and night
driving. This system helps in detecting the driver's inactive or
sleepy condition and provides an immediate alert to wake them
up.

The system works by monitoring the driver's head movement or

eye blinking pattern using sensors. When the driver starts feeling
drowsy, the sensor detects abnormal head tilting or reduced eye
movement. As soon as such a condition is detected, the system
activates a buzzer alarm to alert the driver, thereby preventing
possible accidents.

This project is simple, cost-effective, and easy to install in any

vehicle. It improves road safety by reducing the risk of accidents
due to driver fatigue. The Anti Sleep Alarm System can be widely
used in cars, buses, trucks, and other transportation vehicles to
ensure safe driving and enhance public safety.

INTRODUCTION

In modem-times, owing to hectic schedules it becomes very difficult to

remain active al the time. Imagine a situation where a person driving home
from work, dead fired after facing all the challenges of the day. His hands
are on the wheel and foot on the pedal but suddenly he starts feeling drowsy,
his eyes start shutting and nis vision blues and before he knows it, he's
asleep. Falling asleep on the wheel can lead to serious consequences, there
may be accidents and people may even lose their lives. This situation is
much more common then we notice and hence, it is very important to
counter this problem. So to address this issue, we have come up with a
Driver Anti-sleep Alarm,

This system Stops the users car it he/she falls asleep at the wheel thereby,
avoiding accidents and saving lives. This system is useful, especially for
people who travel long distances and people who are driving late at night.

2.1.1 IR SENSOR
The IR sensor is used to detect the driver’s eve movements. It emits
infrared light Toward the eyes and measures the reflected signal.
When the eyes remain closed for a specific period, the reflected light
decreases, and the sensor sends a signal to the relay, Thit input helps
determine whether the driver is drowsy or asleep.

2.1.2 RELAY MODULE

The relay module acts as an electronic switch that controls high
power devices using a low power signal from the relay. In this
project, it can be used to activate external alerting mechanisms such
as a vibration motor or additional warning lights when drowsiness is
defected. It provides electrical isolation between the control circuit
and the load for safety and reliability.
2.1.3 BUZZER
The buzzer functions of the main alerting device in the system.
When the IR sensor detects that the driver’s eyes have been closed
beyond a threshold duration, in activates the buzzer to produce a
loud alarm sound. This immediate alert helps wake the diver and
prevent accidents caused by fatigue on drowsiness.

2.1.4 DC MOTOR
A small DC motor can be integrated to provide additional feedback,
such as vibration on the steering wheel or seat when drowsiness
defected. The tactile det combined with the buzzer, enhances the
system's effectiveness in awakening the driver.
2.1.5 JUMPER WIRE
Jumper wires are used to establish electrical connections between
the components such as the IR sensor. buzzer, and relay module.
They enable signal transmission and power distribution throughout
the circuit.

2.1.6 12 DC BATTERY
The battery serves as the main power source for the circuit. A 12V
battery is typically used to supply power to the sensors, and other
electronic components. It ensures portability and allows the system
to operate independently without external power supply.
2.1.7 WHEEL
Wheels are used to provide mobility If the system is mounted on a moving
prototype or demonstration model. They help illustrate how the system
could function in a vehicle-like setup during project demonstrations.

2.1.8 SWITCH
While there's an enormous variety of switches available, they mostly do the
same thing: Turn power to an electrical circuit on or off by making or
breaking an electrical connection. But it's how they do it that's important.
How quickly the circuit needs to be broken depends on whether you’re
working the ac or dc.
3. WORKING
The Anti Sleep Alarm System works on the principle of driver
drowsiness detection. It continuously monitors the driver’s head
position or eye blinking movement using sensors. Whenever the
driver starts feeling sleepy, the body movement becomes slow and the
head begins to tilt forward.

This abnormal movement is detected by the sensor and converted into

an electrical signal. The signal is then sent to a control unit (like a
comparator circuit or microcontroller). After processing the signal, if
drowsiness is detected, the system immediately activates a buzzer
alarm to alert the driver.

3.1.1 SUPPLY

Initially, the system is powered by a battery (5V–12V DC supply)

from the vehicle or an external power source. This supply is given to
all components such as:

• Sensor
• Control Unit
• Buzzer Alarm

3.1.2 SENSOR DETECTION

The IR sensor detects if the driver’s eyes remain closed for more than a
preset time Now the sensor generates an electrical output signal due
to this abnormal condition.

3.1.3 ALARM ACTIVATION

After confirmation:

• The controller sends an output signal to the buzzer

• The buzzer produces a loud sound alarm

This alarm immediately wakes up the driver and prevents possible

Accident

5. CONCLUSION
The Anti-Sleep Alarm System successfully demonstrates now
technology can be utilized to enhance driver safety and prevent
accidents caused by fatigue or drowsiness. By combining simple yet
effective components such as the Il sensor, relay module, and buzzer,
the system provides a reliable and cost-efficient solution for real-time
drowsiness detection. The project highlights the importance of
sensor-based automation in safety-critical applications. The system
continuously monitors the driver's eye movements and triggers on
instant alarm when prolonged eye closure is detected. Its quick
response and low power consumption make it suitable for continuous
operation in vehicles or other monitoring environments.

Through the development of this project, students gain practical

experience in microcontroller programming, circuit design, and
sensor interfacing, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge
and real-world application. The Anti-Sleep Alarm System not only
serves as an educational prototype but also represents a step toward
intelligent transportation systems and human safety innovations.

6. FUTURE SCOPE
The Anti Sleep Alarm System has a wide future scope in the field of
automobile safety and smart transportation systems. As road
accidents caused by driver fatigue are increasing day by day, this
system can be further improved by using advanced technologies to
make driving safer and more intelligent.
