Question 1.
Air at 27 OC and 20 % humidity is to be heated in two stages with intermediate
saturation with water to 90 % humidity so that the final stream is at 47 OC and 20 %
humidity. Calculate the humidity of exit stream and the conditions at the end of each
stage?
[ Answers: H= 0.0045 from 27 to 45 OC, H= 0.014 , T= 21.5 OC ; H=0.014 kg/kg, T=
21.5 OC to 47 OC ]
Question 2.
Water is to be cooled from 328K to 293 K by means of a countercurrent air stream
entering at 293 K with a relative humidity of 20%. The flow of air is 0.68 m3/m2 and the
water throughput is 0.26 kg/m2s. The whole resistence to heat and mass transfer may be
assumed to be in the gas phase and the product ( had) may be taken as 0.2 (
m/s)(m2/m3) . What is the required height of packing and the condition of the exit air
stream?
[ Answers: 2004 watts]
Question 3.
In an air conditioning system, 1 kg/s air at 350 K and 10 % humidity ix mixed with 5 kg/s
air at 300 K and 30 % humidity. What is the enthalpy, humidity and temperature of the
resultant mixture stream.
[ Answers: H= 0.0125 , Enthalpy= 67 kJ/kg , T= 310 K]
