Topic 1: Number System
Formulas
1.1 Place Value Formula
Formula:

Place Value = Face Value × Position Value

Where:

• Face Value = The digit itself (0-9)

• Position Value = 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000...
Example 1: Find place value of 7 in 56,743

Solution:
Face value of 7 = 7
Position value = 100 (hundreds place)
Place value = 7 × 100 = 700

Example 2: Find place value of 5 in 45,678

Solution:
5 is in thousands place
Place value = 5 × 1000 = 5000

1.2 Expanded Form Formula

Formula:

Number = (𝑑 × 10 ) + (𝑑 × 10 )+. . . +(𝑑 × 10) + 𝑑

Where 𝑑 represents each digit from right to left.

Example 3: Write 4,567 in expanded form

Solution:
4567 = (4 × 1000) + (5 × 100) + (6 × 10) + (7 × 1)
= 4000 + 500 + 60 + 7

1.3 Divisibility Tests (Quick Formulas)

Divisible by Condition
2 Last digit is 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8
3 Sum of digits divisible by 3
4 Last two digits divisible by 4
5 Last digit is 0 or 5
6 Divisible by both 2 and 3
8 Last three digits divisible by 8
9 Sum of digits divisible by 9
10 Last digit is 0
11 (Sum of odd place digits) - (Sum of even place digits) = 0 or 11

Example 4: Check if 5,634 is divisible by 3
