CO2 Explain the working principle of various modulators, demodulators used in AM and FM
transmitters & receivers
CO3 Solve problems in random process, amplitude modulation and angle modulation schemes
1. Find the Image Frequency and Image frequency Rejection Ratio at incoming frequency of
1000 kHz and 25 kHz for a broadcast super heterodyne AM receiver. The loaded Q of
antenna coupling circuit is 100 with a tuning frequency of 1044 MHz and an IF of 455 kHz.
(4)
2. For an AM receiver IF, RF and LO frequencies are 455 kHz, 1100 kHz and 1555 kHz
respectively. Find
a. Image frequency
b. IFRR for preselector Q = 100 and Q = 50. (5)
3. Consider an AM receiver with a ± 2.5 kHz tracking error and 455 kHz IF and a maximum
modulating signal frequency f m = 6 kHz. Find
i. IF minimum and maximum
ii. Minimum IF bandwidth (3)
4. Find the minimum IF bandwidth for an AM receiver with a ± 2800 Hz tracking error and a
maximum modulating signal frequency fm = 4 kHz. (2)
5. A super heterodyne receiver is designed to receive transmit signals between 5 and 10 MHz.
Find the tuning range of the local oscillator with IF frequency 600 KHz for high side tuning.
(2)
6. A Super heterodyne receiver is used to receive an FM signal in the range of 88 MHz - 108
MHz with IF frequency 10 MHz. Find the maximum and minimum capacitance ratio at the
local oscillator section (high side tuning is used) in order to avoid image frequency. (4)
