Knitting Math

The document outlines calculations related to weft and warp knitting math, including motor RPM, cylinder RPM, and production metrics such as courses per minute (CPM) and production per shift. It provides specific examples for calculating weight per rack, racks per hour, and run-in ratios for warp knitting. Additionally, it emphasizes learning outcomes and encourages discussion on the material presented.

Weft knitting math
• Motor rpm = 1430
• Diameter of motor pulley = 2”
• Diameter of intermediate pulley -1 = 11”
• Diameter of intermediate pulley -2 = 2.5”
• Diameter of machine pulley = 10”
• No. of teeth of bevel gear = 50
• No. of teeth of cylinder wheel = 200
• Cylinder RPM
= Motor RPM x (2/11) x (2.5/10) x (50/200)
= 1430 x (2/11) x (2.5/10) x (50/200)
= 16.25
Production calculation

• CPM
Theory = —————-
CPI
• CPM = Course Per minute
CPI = Course Per Inch
• CPM = Cylinder RPM x No of Feeder
• Cylinder RPM
= Motor RPM x (2/11) x (2.5/10) x
(50/200)
= 1430 x (2/11) x (2.5/10) x (50/200)
= 16.25
Production calculation
• CPM = 16.25*24 = 390
• Suppose CPI = 28
• Production = 390/28 inch/min
= (390 x 60 x 8 x 0.91)/(28 x 36) meter/shift
= 169 meter/shift
• For double jersey = 169/2 = 84.5 meter/shift

Warp knitting math
• Rack :
• A rack is unit of production in warp knitting.
• A rack is 480 courses.
• Run-in :
• The length of yarn consumed during 1 rack.
• Quality :
• The length of cloth knitted during 1 rack.
Warp knitting math

• Question : A 168 inch , 28G tricot m/c is operating at 800

courses per minute on a 2 bar m/c. the warp is 70 denier nylon
in both bars. The width of the fabric is 144 inches. The quality is
8 inches per rack & back bar run-in is 64 inches & front bar run-
in 80 inches. Calculate the following:
• 1) Wt in lb/rack = ?
• 2) Rack/hr =?
• 3) Wales per inch =?
• 4) Course per inch= ?
• 5) lb/hr =?
• 6) Run in ratio = ?
Warp knitting math
• Given that,
• M/C width = 168
• Fabric width = 144"
• M/C gauge = 28 npi
• Quality = 8" [Fabric length] per rack
• Back bar run in = 64" (yarn length)
• Front bar run in = 80"
• Courses per min or rpm = 800
• Denier = 70D nylon
Warp knitting math
• (1) Weight of yarn in lb/rack

• = (Front bar lb/rack yarn wt) + (Back bar lb/rack)

80 x ( 168 x 28 ) x 70 64 x ( 168 x 28 ) x 70
= +
39.37 x 9000 x 453.6 39.37 x 9000 x 453.6

= 0.295 lb / rack
Warp knitting math
• 2) Rack per hour
800 × 60
•= = 100
480
• 3) Wales per inch
Total wales 28 × 168
= = = 32
Fabric width 144
Warp knitting math
• 4) Course per inch
480
= = 60
8
5) Production
= (Racks / hour ) × weight per rack
= 100 × 0.295
= 29.5 lbs / hr
80
6) Run in ratio = = 5/4
