WORKFLOW & TIMELINE REPORT
OBJECTIVE: To ensure a seamless season, eliminate mid-year bottlenecks, and avoid
"dead pauses," the Propulsion & Dynamics (P&D) team needs a clear operational
roadmap.
You are required to create a comprehensive Departmental Workflow Timeline and Phase
Analysis Report. This exercise will give you a bird's-eye view of how we transition from a
blank CAD screen to a high-performance vehicle on the track.
Classify our engineering cycle into chronological phases:
Research -> Concept Design -> Detailed CAD & Simulation -> Manufacturing -> Testing
Competition. For each phase, elaborate on these three pillars:
1. Phase Objectives & Actions
• Detail the precise engineering actions occurring in this window.
• Break down core P&D responsibilities: setting vehicle dynamics targets, weight
distribution planning, suspension geometry design, and component optimization.
2. Technical Skills & Software Stack
• Identify the technical skills required (e.g., suspension kinematics, multi-body
dynamics, structural FEA setup).
• List the software tools to master and utilize in that window (e.g., SolidWorks for
CAD, Ansys for FEA, Lotus SHARK/IPG CarMaker/MATLAB for vehicle dynamics).
3. Real-World Timeline Constraints
A brilliant design is useless if it isn't built on time. Your timeline must map against:
• The Tournament Timeline: Registration deadlines, Rulebook compliance checks,
Design Report submissions, and competition dates.
• Institutional Roadblocks: College academic calendars, mid-term/end-term exams,
lab schedules, and major holidays. Mark these out as "low-productivity" blocks
where we cannot schedule critical manufacturing or testing.
