1. Theory as an Explanation of a Phenomenon


Definition: A theory is a set of ideas or principles that explains why and how something happens.
My understanding: I see theory as a logical explanation that helps us understand events,
behaviors, or situations. For example, in science, a theory explains natural occurrences based on
evidence and observations. It helps people make sense of facts and predict what may happen in
similar situations.

2. Theory as a Guide for Research and Practice


Definition: A theory is a framework of concepts that helps researchers study, analyze, and
understand relationships among variables.
My understanding: To me, theory serves as a roadmap. It guides researchers in asking questions,
collecting information, and interpreting results. It helps organize knowledge and provides direction
for solving problems or improving practices in a particular field.

Summary: A theory can be understood as an explanation of how or why something happens and a
framework that guides understanding, research, and decision-making.
