Structural Design Analysis

The document outlines the structural design analysis for a residential building, detailing design assumptions, loads, and structural layout. It specifies the design for slabs, beams, columns, and footings, including dimensions, reinforcement, and seismic detailing requirements for high seismic zones. Key parameters include a plan size of 4.81m x 6.29m, concrete strength of 3000 psi, and a total factored load of 9.20 kPa.

STRUCTURAL DESIGN ANALYSIS

1. Design Assumptions

Typical residential geometry:

Parameter Value
Plan Size : 4.81m x 6.29m
Storey Height : 3.00m Grd-2nd Flr. ; 3.00m 2nd Flr – Roof
Column Spacing : 2.5m – 5.00m
Soil Bearing : 100 kPa
Concrete Strength : 3000 psi
Steel yield : 415 MPa

2. Design Loads

Dead Load = 5.0 kPa

Live Load (residential) = 2.0 kPa

Factored Load

U = 1.2DL + 1.6LL
U = 1.20(5.0) x 1.6(2.0) = 9.20 kPa

3. Structural Layout
Columns = 8 pcs
Reason : Smaller Spans ; Economical Beams ; Stronger
Earthquake Performance
4. Slab Design

Thickness : 100mm thk

Reinforcement : 10mm dia @ 150mm both ways

5. Beam Design

Load per beam

w = 9.2 x 3 = 27.6kN/m

Moment
M= 27.6(3)(3)/8 = 31kNm

Provide Beam:
250mm x 400mm

Rebars:
Bottom : 4 – 16mm
Top : 4 – 16mm
Stirrups : 10mm @ 150m

6. Column Design

Tributary area : 3 x 2.5 = 7.5 sq.m

Load/Floor : 9.2 x 7.5 = 69kN
2 floors : 138kN
Add self-weight : Pu = 170kN

Try column : 300mm x 300mm

Capacity : Pn = 0.4f’cA = 0.4(21)(52900) = 444kn (SAFE)

Rebars : 8 – 16mm vertical with ties 10mm @ 150mm

7. Footing Design

Column Load = 170kN

Soil Capacity = 100kPa

A = 170/100 = 1.7 sq.m

Provide : 1.20m x 1.20m Footing with 300mm thk

Rebars : 16mm dia. @ 150 mm each way

8. Seismic Detailing

Because Metro Manila is high seismic zone:

Must include:
a. 135 Column tie hooks
b. Max tie spacing = 100mm near joints
c. Beam bars continuous through column
d. No splicing at joints
