1. Passive Components

• Resistor: Opposes current flow. Main aim: Control current and voltage division. Key formula: V
= IR.

• Capacitor: Stores electrical energy in electric field. Blocks DC, passes AC. Xc = 1/(2πfC).

• Inductor: Stores energy in magnetic field. Opposes change in current. Xl = 2πfL.

• Transformer: Transfers power between circuits via electromagnetic induction. Used for voltage
stepping.

• Potentiometer: Variable resistor used for voltage adjustment.

2. Semiconductor Devices

• Diode: Allows current in one direction. Used for rectification.

• Zener Diode: Voltage regulation in reverse breakdown region.

• LED: Emits light when forward biased.

• BJT (NPN/PNP): Current controlled device. Used for amplification and switching.

• MOSFET: Voltage controlled device. High input impedance. Used in VLSI and power
electronics.

• JFET: Voltage controlled device with depletion mode operation.

• SCR (Thyristor): Controlled rectifier used in power control.
