Science, Technology, & Society
Assignment:
1. What do you think are the major contributions of science and technology in the
Philippines?
- Science and technology play a very important role in the development of the
Philippines because the modern world would not exist without the knowledge and
technologies created through science. Many of the things we use in our daily
lives, such as smartphones, transportation, household appliances, and
communication tools, are products of science and technology that help people
save time, effort, and money. These contributions support economic activities
and improve the way Filipinos live and work, which is also emphasized in national
initiatives like Pagtanaw 2050 that aim to use science and technology for
long-term development. Aside from improving daily life, science and technology
have also greatly influenced society by changing how people communicate, work,
travel, and even how long and well they live. Because life has become more
convenient, people are given more opportunities to focus on important societal
issues such as education, ethics, culture, and social justice.
2. Considering the current state of our society, do you think that science literacy
among people has contributed to the growth of our economy?
- Considering the current state of our society, science literacy among Filipinos has
contributed to economic growth by enabling people to better understand and
apply scientific and technological knowledge in everyday life and work.
Science-literate individuals are more capable of adapting to technological
changes, improving productivity, and participating in industries that rely on
innovation, which supports national development. In the Philippines, increasing
access to science and technology education helps prepare the youth for
employment, encourages critical and scientific thinking in addressing social
issues, and strengthens the workforce. As seen in more developed countries,
investments in science literacy and technology have led to economic progress,
showing that improving scientific understanding among people plays a key role in
long-term economic growth.
