Project Reflection
Prior to working on the presentation assignment, how comfortable were you working in
teams/groups? What skills and strategies did you need to develop to work well on this
project? What will you do differently next time?
At the start of this term, I wasn’t very comfortable working in a group. I usually prefer to
pick my own topic, and my first idea was about the environment, but other team members
had topics in areas I’m not very interested in. It was a bit frustrating at first, but as we talked
and shared our ideas, we found a topic that everyone could agree on and that would have a
high impact on our classmates: the Maillard reaction. Working together like this helped me
realise how important it is to listen to others, to compromise, and to consider the team’s goals
as well as my own.
Through this project, I learned a lot about planning and communication. I had to make sure
our slides were clear, easy to follow, and not too cluttered, so the audience could understand
our points. I also learned how to organize my thoughts better and explain things in a way that
makes sense to others. These skills weren’t easy at first, but practising them has made me feel
more confident in teamwork and presentations.
Looking back, I can see that the strategies we used for this project, sharing ideas, checking in
with each other, and keeping our work organised will be useful in the future, especially if I
work on group projects in school or at a job. Next time, I want to start discussions earlier and
make sure everyone is on the same page from the beginning, so the project runs more
smoothly.
Overall, this term taught me that collaboration, communication, and being open to new ideas
are just as important as doing your own work well.
What skills do you think you learned this term will be the greatest benefit to you when
encountering unhealthy responses to stress in laboratories and production floors?
This term, I think the skills that will help me the most are communication, teamwork, and
problem-solving. I’ve learned how to listen carefully to others, share ideas clearly, and stay
calm even when things don’t go as planned. For example, during group projects,
disagreements or different opinions could create tension, but I learned how to find common
ground and keep the team focused on the goal.
I also got better at organizing tasks and managing time, which helps prevent stress from
piling up in the first place. Being able to stay organized and plan makes it easier to handle
unexpected problems without panicking. Finally, I learned the importance of being flexible
adapting when a process changes or when a team member struggle helps reduce stress for
everyone.
Overall, these skills mean that in a lab or production setting, I’ll be more prepared to stay
calm, help others handle stress, and keep work moving smoothly, even when challenges come
up.
