This strand develops learners’ ability to:

• Recognize, read, and write numbers


• Understand symbols and number names
• Connect numerals ↔ words ↔ quantities
• Appreciate that numbers can be represented in different systems and forms

🔹 Activity 1: Object–Number Matching

Materials: stones, sticks, bottle tops, flashcards

Process:

• Teacher places 5 stones


• Shows numeral 5
• Learners match object quantity with numeral

Builds link: quantity → symbol

🔹 Activity 2: Number Tracing and Writing

Materials: sand trays, chalkboards, paper


Process:

• Learners trace numbers in sand


• Progress to writing on paper

Enhances motor skills + number formation
