STAGE 1: PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION


The school attendance statistical monitoring system is designed to solve problems related
to inaccurate records, slow manual processing and poor decision making.

Statement of Intent: To develop a computer-based system that improves data collection,


storage, analysis and reporting.

Project Specifications:
- Provide secure login
- Store records in a database
- Generate reports automatically
- Improve efficiency and accuracy

STAGE 2: INVESTIGATION OF RELATED IDEAS


Related Idea 1: Manual Record Keeping
Merits: Cheap and easy to use.
Demerits: Time consuming and prone to errors.

Related Idea 2: Spreadsheet System


Merits: Automatic calculations and better storage.
Demerits: Requires computer knowledge.

Related Idea 3: Mobile Application


Merits: Portable and convenient.
Demerits: Requires smartphones and internet.

STAGE 3: GENERATION OF POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS


Possible Solution 1: Spreadsheet-based solution.
Possible Solution 2: Mobile application.
Possible Solution 3: Desktop-based computerized system.

Chosen Solution: Desktop-based system because it is reliable, secure, affordable and easy to
maintain.
STAGE 4: DEVELOPMENT AND REFINEMENT OF CHOSEN IDEA

STAGE 5: PRESENTATION OF FINAL SOLUTION
