Overview of the Lesson
We are going to introduce the software by looking over the user interface and go through some basic controls.
We will go through some exercises to demonstrate the interface.
Software Interface
1. Graphics window – This is your workspace, this is where you model and display geometry.
2. Top bar – These are functions you’d see in the file drop down menu. These are typical open/save functions.
3. Menu bar and Tabbed toolbar – The menu bar has main headings, under them are sub headings that are
functions related to the main headings. For example, under Modelling, there is Cut bodies. The tabbed toolbars
have single function buttons, these are quick access buttons to popular functions. These can be edited, as with
most toolbars.
4. Heads up display – Horizontally, you have different view options, such as top view. Vertically, you have
shading options, the same as the Graphics tab in the tabbed toolbar. In the corner, you have an options button
that shows colour palette definition, attributes, settings and more.
5. Left hand toolbar – These functions are the most used, containing modelling features, dimensioning, CAM
navigator and more. By holding down a function in the left toolbar, and moving your mouse right, gives more
options within that function.
6. Bottom right toolbar – This toolbar provides a search box to quickly search for functions. The toolbar tells
you the view you are in, the units and more. A popular function here is the layers tab that shows your layers
and filters.

Exercise 1 – Die Inserts
1. File ► Open Insert Manager [Link]
During the tool design procedure, the die plates that are generated from subtracting the cavities from
the punch creation can be used in Insert Manager to automatically create inserts around the die
apertures.
2. Select Layer ► DIE-PLATE1

3. Select Progress ► Insert Manager
4. Select pick plates select the Die plate to start the recognition
The Recognition will find all apertures and create profiles depending on the parameters set, These
parameters can now be adjusted to get the required results.

5. First start by selecting the Profiles you want to use and M2 to confirm
Ensure Block control is on.

6. Now set the parameters as shown below.
Parameter Definitions
Minimum distance = Minimum distance between
profiles before they merge into one.
Offset Value = Offset amount of original profile.
General Radius = Applied Radius Value
Different Fillet = Do you require a different corner
radius? if so where?
Different Radius = Value of the different radius
Cut Option = Use the profiles to cut the inserts
Create Chamfers = You can have the option of
chamfers instead of a radius
Chamfer Value = Size of chamfer
Different Chamfer Value = Value of the different
chamfer if you required one.
Offset On Radius Only = Offset clearance on
whole insert or just Radius
Die Insert Clearance = Set Clearance value
Through Cavity = Do you require a height to you
insert or full depth
Cavity Height = In case the through cavity option
is not selected, the system permits to set the
relative Insert solid height
Colour = Set colour of insert
You can also set your layer name, part description, material and heat treatment here.
