Group Program Assignment
Value
25% of the final grade (10%: individual session, 15%: the rest of the package as outlined in
the assignment)
Due Date
December 8th at the beginning of class (hard copy)
Assignment Overview
Clearly defined goals drive the actions you will take weekly. They help you:
Determine what you will do every week during sessions
Evaluate your group: how and what you will evaluate will be connected to your goals.
Group Task
Review the research and examine your goals, beginning the process of exploring how your
group will meet these goals. (What will we do?)
You will begin to outline the process your group would go through in order to meet these
goals and how you would measure the successful completion of these goals. (topics to
address, speakers, activities, videos, group discussions, etc.)
After considering the above, you will begin the process of preparing the outline of your
weekly group sessions. For each session you will set the stage for the session, highlight
goal(s), exercises etc., and measurement of success. This needs to be very user friendly,
detailed, and easy to follow.
Rough Example
Week #1 : “Getting to Know You” The purpose of this session is to address…….
a. Group Introductions (how you would accomplish this)
b. Discuss Rules (Guidelines)
c. Discuss Group Goals, etc.
d. The goal(s) being addressed is/are:
e. Measurement:
*Provide full explanations. This should be user friendly. Clear and concise directions.
Expectations
Every week your clients will be doing things that help them meet the goals. Some goals are
covered in one session, some are ongoing. It is important that you identify when you are
working on goals, when and how you will measure successful completion of the goals. For
example: Some goals might be accomplished in week 3, others not until the end of group, so
keep that in mind. Some may be worked on every week.
Submission Requirements
Be sure to include an introduction to your group format submission. (This introduction is
like a summary of your proposal). Include a reference list and any other group-generated
resources, questionnaires, etc.
The group will be graded on submitting 7-8 sessions only, regardless of how many are in
the proposal. The first session (introduction) and the last session (termination) will be
completed as a group. Each member of the group will take responsibility for one of the
other 5-6 (depends on number of group members) sessions and will be graded individually.
The overall flow of the group will be included in the group grade.
This means that each group will submit 7 or 8 sessions, regardless of the actual number in
the proposal. For any missing sessions, just give me the week # and topics/goals you would
cover in those weeks.
Note
Grading Rubrics (Group & Individual) are posted.
