Unit 7 Assignment Activity

Goals and Time Management

Introduction

Setting goals and managing time effectively are important skills for academic success. In the

past, I sometimes created goals that were too general and difficult to achieve because I did not

have a clear plan or timeline. Learning about the S.M.A.R.T. goal framework helped me

understand how to create realistic and organized goals. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable,

Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Using this framework can improve motivation,

productivity, and self-discipline.

Three S.M.A.R.T. Goals

1. Short-Term Goal (1–2 Months)

My short-term goal is to improve my Python programming skills by practicing coding for one

hour every day for the next two months. I will complete at least three coding exercises each week

and watch educational tutorials to strengthen my understanding of Python concepts.

SMART Elements

Specific: Improve Python programming skills.

Measurable: Practice one hour daily and complete three exercises weekly.

Achievable: The goal fits my current schedule.

Relevant: Programming skills are important for my studies.

Time-bound: Complete within two months.

2. Midterm Goal (5–6 Months)

My midterm goal is to achieve a GPA of at least 3.5 during the next two academic terms. I will

manage my study time carefully, submit assignments before deadlines, and review course

materials regularly.

SMART Elements

Specific: Achieve a GPA of 3.5.

Measurable: Track grades and assignment scores.

Achievable: Possible through consistent studying.

Relevant: Good academic performance supports my future career.

Time-bound: Complete within six months.

3. Long-Term Goal

My long-term goal is to complete my university degree successfully and become a professional

software developer. I plan to continue improving my programming, communication, and

problem-solving skills throughout my educational journey.

SMART Elements

Specific: Graduate and become a software developer.

Measurable: Successfully complete courses and gain technical skills.

Achievable: Achievable through continuous learning and effort.

Relevant: Supports my future career goals.

Time-bound: Complete by the end of my university program.

Reflection Questions

1. Compare your experience with goal-setting to the SMART goal framework.

Before learning about SMART goals, my goals were usually unclear and not well organized.

Sometimes I wanted to achieve something, but I did not create a specific plan or timeline.

Because of this, I often lost motivation or became distracted. The SMART framework is helpful

because it makes goals more realistic and easier to follow. It encourages planning and tracking

progress. Although I had used simple goal-setting methods before, the SMART approach is more

structured and effective.

2. How will time management and SMART goals contribute to your successful educational
journey?

Time management and SMART goals will help me stay organized and focused. Managing time

properly allows me to complete assignments on schedule and reduce stress. SMART goals

provide direction and motivation because they clearly define what I want to achieve and how I

will achieve it. These strategies will help me balance my academic responsibilities and personal

life more effectively.

3. How will you use the Academic Success Plan document to support your progress toward
earning your degree?

The Academic Success Plan will help me monitor my progress and stay committed to my

educational goals. I can use it to organize priorities, track achievements, and identify areas that

need improvement. The plan will also remind me of my long-term goals and encourage me to

stay motivated during difficult periods in my studies.

Conclusion

In conclusion, time management and SMART goals are important tools for academic and

personal success. They help students become more organized, productive, and motivated. By

applying these strategies, I can improve my learning experience and continue progressing toward

completing my degree successfully.
