Abstract

The AI-Based Smart Automated Traffic Monitoring and Safety System is designed to
enhance urban mobility and road safety through intelligent automation. Traditional traffic
management often relies on manual intervention and static signal timings, which are often
inefficient in handling dynamic congestion or detecting accidents in real-time. This project
proposes an advanced system that leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning
(ML), and Computer Vision to optimize traffic flow and ensure driver safety.

The system captures real-time video feeds from high-definition cameras placed at intersections
to perform vehicle detection and classification. By analyzing traffic density in real-time, it
dynamically adjusts signal timings to reduce wait times and prevent bottlenecks. Furthermore,
the system is equipped to identify traffic violations, such as overspeeding, lane crossing, and
illegal parking. Integrated safety modules utilize behavioural analysis to detect road accidents
or stalled vehicles instantly, triggering immediate alerts for emergency services.

All traffic data, violation logs, and incident reports are stored in a centralized database for
future urban planning and forensic analysis. Overall, the proposed system provides a scalable,
high-accuracy solution that reduces human error, minimizes travel time, and significantly
improves the safety standards of modern smart cities.
