1. Sexual Violence (WHO / Public Health)
• Any sexual act, attempt to obtain a sexual act, unwanted sexual comments or advances, or acts to traffic or otherwise
directed against a person’s sexuality using coercion, by any person regardless of their relationship to the victim, in any setting.
• Broad umbrella term covering assault, abuse, harassment, exploitation, etc.

2. Sexual Assault (Law / Forensic)


• Any act in which a person is forced, coerced, or manipulated into unwanted sexual activity without consent.
• Includes touching, groping, penetration (rape), or attempts thereof.

3. Sexual Abuse (Clinical / Child Protection context)


• Use of a child or vulnerable person for sexual gratification of another, whether by physical contact or non-contact (exposure,
pornography, sexual grooming).
• Can be chronic and exploitative.
• Broader than assault, often in power imbalance (adult–child, caretaker–dependent) situations.

4. Sexual Harassment (Workplace / Society context)


• Any unwelcome sexual behaviour (physical contact, demand/ request for sexual favours, making sexually coloured remarks,
showing pornography, other verbal/ non-verbal conduct).
• Does not require physical force.

5. Sexual Offence (Legal term)


• Any act that is a criminal violation of sexual integrity under law.
• Includes rape, harassment, trafficking, child pornography, obscene acts, etc.
