Sample Proposal

This research proposal aims to evaluate the effectiveness of warm foot soak on reducing blood pressure among clients with hypertension in a rural area of Trichy. The study will assess pretest and posttest blood pressure levels, utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a sample size of 50 participants aged over 40. Data will be collected through a structured tool and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics to determine the intervention's impact and associations with background variables.

RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Statement of the problem

A study to evaluate the effectiveness of warm foot soak on reduction of blood

pressure among clients with hypertension at selected rural area, Trichy.

Objectives,

 To assess the level of blood pressure among clients with Hypertension.

 To evaluate the effectiveness of warm foot soak on reduction of
blood pressure among clients with hypertension.
 To find the association between pretest level of blood pressure among clients with
hypertension and their selected Background variables.

Hypotheses,

 H1-There is a significant difference between pretest and posttest level of blood

pressure among clients with hypertension who receive warm foot soak.
 H2-There is a significant association between pretest level of blood pressure among
clients with hypertension and their selected background variables.

OPERATIONAL DEFINITION:

Evaluate

It is defined as judging or calculating the quality

In this study it refers to evaluation of the effectiveness of warm foot soak on reduction
of blood pressure.

Effectiveness,

It defined as the capability of producing a desired outcome.

In this study it refers to change in blood pressure level brought by warm foot soak which
will be measured with sphygmomanometer among clients with hypertension.

Blood pressure,

Blood pressure is the force or pressure of the blood against the walls of the blood
vessels.

It consists of systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure which will be
measured with sphygmomanometer.
Client with Hypertension,

Individual who have been diagnosed as Hypertension beforehand, who currently have
blood pressure systolic >130mmHg and diastolic >90mmHg and residing in selected rural
area, Trichy.

Warm foot soak,

In this study it refers to the immersion of both feet into the warm water with 30° C
to 40° C temperature for about 25 cm depth of feet for 15 -20 minutes once a day for 30
days consecutively.

Assumptions

 Warm foot soak reduces blood pressure

 Warm foot soak has no potential risk or side effects
 Warm foot soak is simple and cost effective

Delimitation

 Sample size is limited to 50.

 Setting is limited to one rural area.
 Data collection period is 6 weeks.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research methodology refers to the investigation of the ways of obtaining,

organizing, and analysis of data. Methodological studies address the development
validation and evaluation of research tools and methods.

O4, O5, O6 = Observation of post test Blood pressure

Variables:

 Dependent variable – Blood pressure

 Independent variable- Warm foot soak

Setting of the study:

 The study setting is Navalurkuttapattu l area ,Trichy

Target population:

Clients with hypertension.

Accessible population:

Clients with hypertension residing in Navalurkuttapattu, Trichy

Sample:

Clients with hypertension above 40 years .

Sampling technique:

Purposive sampling technique

Sample size,

The sample size will be 50 .

CRITERIA FOR SAMPLE SELECTION:

Inclusion criteria

 Clients diagnosed as hypertension.

 Clients who have systolic pressure >130 and diastolic pressure>90mmhg on pre
test.
 Clients age above 40 years.
 Those who are willing to participate in study
 Clients available during data collection period.
 Clients with selected co morbid illness

Exclusion criteria

 Clients having systolic pressure <130 and diastolic pressure<90mmhg on pretest.

 People less than age of 40years.
 Clients not willing to participate in study.
 Clients with renal hypertension.
Development of the tool:

Based on the objectives of the study, demographic Variables and blood pressure
chart were prepared to evaluate the blood pressure before and after treatment. The tool
consisted three sections which are follows,

Section –I Background variables:

The researcher constructed this tool to collect background data of the study subjects and
to identify the influence of sample characteristics with the increased blood pressure. It
consists of Age, Gender, educational status, Type of worker, dietary pattern, Body mass
index , Daily exercise, habits,

Section –II Clinical variables:

It consists of the Type of hypertension, family history of hypertension, Co morbid

illness, Drug treatment for hypertension, If regular duration of hypertension treatment,
treating health care institution, frequency of hospital visits for hypertension review.

Section –III Blood pressure recording sheet

The blood pressure recording sheet consist of,

1. Client Name:

S. Blood Pre test Post test

1 SBP

DBP
1. The pretest blood pressure of the clients on before 15, 7, and 0 day of prior to start of
intervention

2. The post test blood pressure of the clients on 15, 21, and 30 days.

Data collection procedure:

The data collection will be done after getting permission from authorities for
conducting study, the researcher will select 50 clients with hypertension and consent will
be obtained. The researcher will measure the pretest blood pressure on before 15, 7 and 0
day of prior to the start of intervention. The client were divided into 10 groups, each group
contain 5 members. Then demonstration will be given on warm foot soak 15 to 20minutes
to each group. After the researcher ensure implementation of intervention through
observation and home visit. The post test will be conducted to participants on 15, 21, 30
days.
Plan for data analysis:

The data will be analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics.

DESCRIPTIVE

Background variables will be analyzed by using frequency distribution and to assess

the level of blood pressure by using Mean and Standard deviation.

INFERENTIAL

Compare the level of blood pressure by using “z” test and to find the association
between selected background variables by using chi square test.

Ethical consideration:

The proposed study will be conducted after the approval of research committee of the
college permission will sought from the authorities. The written consent of each individual
will be obtained before data collection. Assurance will be given to the study participants
regarding the confidentiality of the data.
