of the author. Demo Session-Part-1 Welcome all to today's fifth module where we are going
to work hands-on on creating presentations using few digital tools like your Google Slides
and maybe Canva. For the sake of demonstrating, I'm going to outline a very simple client
brief. The brief is that you have been asked to prepare an investor deck to pitch to
prospective investors for a women's fashion jewellery brand named Orion. Now, the first step
here is to understand the brand, a sense. It is critical here that you define your project's
personality really clearly. Now, this personality could be described in a number of objectives
like playful, serious, elegant, modern, classic, et cetera. Let us define it, and here we call it
as an elegant brand. Now go back to your modules one, two, and three, and reflect upon
what we have understood about elements and principles of design. What this means is when
we say elegant, our design language needs to reflect that. So we can actually say an elegant
brand is most likely minimalist with clean lines, generous white space, restrained in its colour
palette, refined typography, most likely assertive, well-polished consistent tone of voice,
grid-based layout that shows clear hierarchy and muted and clean background. The next
step here is to understand the profile of your audience. Here these are the investors who
value clarity over creativity, focus on metrics and forecasts. Hence the design cues must
signal professionalism, clear hierarchy, and should have clear ask as call to action. Our next
step is to understand the intent of the artifact and then revolve your storytelling around that
intent. Here it is persuasion. This will help you identify the one line message you want to
convey. Craft your narrative where you state a claim, and then support it with an evidence.
Next step four is to define your layout. That is plan your arrangement. This helps your
viewers to listen and then see your message. Digital Design Tools: Documentation and

grids, hierarchy, alignments, white space, focal point, and visual weight. Now let's start
designing. Now here, I would also like to mention that for the sake of logistical ease, I have
taken sample tokens to be used in the preparation of my artifact and pre placed it as a bank.
So I will first start with planning my deck and defining the nomenclature of my artifact. So if
you have a look at your screen here, we will start with a cover slide, which is just going to be
one page. We move on to second slide, which is going to talk about the brand. After that, we
moved to the USPS of the brand, which is again going to be about one slide. After that, we
talk about why invest with us because that is the persuasion part. So maybe we completed
in two to three slides, and the final one is our call to action, which is going to be one slide. So
let's begin. Now, if you have a look here, these are the ready reckoner that I was talking
about. I've placed my tokens here for ease of logistics. So let's move to a blank Google slide.
I'm going to remove any template that is on there. So this is a blank canvas. Now let's start
with placing our main title or the headline. I am going to call it as investor pitch tech and my
brand name. Now I'll emphasize this with my brand logo that'll add to the visual element of
my artifact. Make sure your alignments are well placed. If you want, you can actually date
your artifact. Generally, we do that in our presentations. Let's see, 21st June. There you go.
Our basic first page is ready. I'm just going to duplicate it. And now I want to tell my investors
what my brand is all about. So maybe I'll talk about the brand here. So I label it, label my
second slide as about us. There needs to be one hero image. Again, I'm sticking to my
consistency in placement of images, so it goes on the right side. Decrease the font size a
little bit compared to my main header, and then wake up my subheading, which is going to

is more or less ready. After this, we continue talking about our brand and tell the investors a
little bit more about it and say, what is the unique factors about our brand? So what makes
as unique. I'm going to change this. There you go. So what makes us unique? These are the
few things that make us unique. Again, I’m going to emphasize it with one hero image
sticking to the same consistent format. I place it on the right side. Now, if you can see, I have
stuck to one single font, just changing the font size. This adds consistency, maintains a
certain kind of hierarchy, which is what we want. So our third slide, which talks about the
brand is ready. Now we move on to the persuasion part. So I label it as market opportunities.
Now, why is it the investor would invest with us, right. We want them to invest with us, so we
have to persuade them. So here I use one of my preset tokens and talk about growing
fashion market. Repeat the same thing, align it and talk about target demographics. One
more reason is ecommerce. Now, these are the three main points that I want to highlight on
in front of my investors. Let's give them a little bit more information on these particular points.
So here we go. So when we talk about growing fashion market, remember we talked about
give the content and then re-emphasize it with some data points to support the statement.
These are those data points. So here we talk about the growth of the market and we give
them some numbers in terms of projections. When we talk about target demographics, which
is mainly women, we again give them some demographics and e-commerce boost. Again,
we give them some demographics. So this completes our slide. I will like to central line this
so that it's all well aligned. Maybe eyeball it a little bit and give some proper white space.
Now here, I don't want to give any hero image because I want the investors to really focus
on actual numbers and data. I move on to my next slide, which is again, going to be
convincing my investors to invest with us, and it's going to talk about, first was opportunities
and then I'm going to talk about what different strategies I have to enter these markets.

here we talk about digital marketing. That's one of the ways I'm going to strategize next is
content creation and the knock next, and last one is going to be pop-up events. Again, to
support my claim, I'll have some data. So here I'm talking about if I invest in this, how much
return of in interest I'm going to get? Now, content creation here, I'm going to talk about how
I'm going to do it maybe through blogs. Some styling tips, engaging the women, and the last
one is going to talk about how I'm going to utilize different kind of popup events. There you
go. Again, no hero image. I want the investors to focus only on numbers and the data that
I'm talking about. And last part of my convincing my investors is again going to talk about
some financial projections. So here we talk about revenue growth investment utilization, and
what are the profit margins going to be? Now remember, these are high valued investors that
you're talking in front of these kind of numbers are really critical to persuade and convince
them while giving your presentation. Also, remember, these are based on actual numbers,
so make sure you crosscheck your data before you present. There you go again, no hero
image. And last one is going to be now call of, call to action. So here we are going to talk
about, I'm going to go back actually to my main heading here and talk about join us in this
journey invest with us and then we write. Now remember, this line is key here. What is the
benefit of investing with us? So I'm going to use an accent colour here and highlight the call
to action, some alignment. We don't need the slide. Let's go back and have a quick check on
how our deck looks like. This is our first slide where we talk about the headline about us,
what makes us unique, market opportunities, maybe if I want to use some separators here, I

of the author. Market strategy. This gives us a little bit more structure in our design and there
you go. So if you would've seen and gone back and reflected on our principles and elements
of design and also where we talked about grids, layouts, colours, all those things you
would've seen how we have stuck to major lead to colours. And our highlight and accent
colour over here is this yellow or gold. The background is minimal, which sticks on brand of
being elegant. The images do not overpower. In fact, they emphasize and reiterate on the
point of elegance, luxury. The layout is very neat, very clear. The demarcation is standing
out. And there you go. So this is how you would go about making a simple presentation you
have to follow all the steps wherein you think about what your brand is all about, what it
stands for. Then you understand who you are going to make your artifact for. So always
keep this in mind, who you are going to present in front of that will give you a great idea on
how to go about making your presentations. And then you understand the intent, whether it
is persuasion, which is the main key reason why we are making this artifact here when we,
which we have taken as an example. And the final one is to have a rough layout defined well
in your mind. So you have to first understand what your viewers are going to listen to, and
then re-emphasize it with what they are seeing and this is it for today.

of the author. Demo Session-Part-2 Hi all. In this session we are going to continue with
working on Google Slides. However, I'm going to give you one more example so that you are
really clear on how we are relating the brand identity, elements, principles, and consolidating
everything to create your artifacts. So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to change the brief
from what we had last time. So imagine the brief is all about preparing a slide deck for a
vibrant Indian inspired, let's say, a niche lifestyle enthusiastic brand called, let's say Masala
Nest, right. It's supposed to be known for its quirky, colourful, and joyful aesthetics. And it
blends traditional Indian motives with modern designs, right. So its identity mainly focuses on
making happy through using warmth, spontaneity, and weight. So it offers products like
home decor, fashion, accessories for a global minded consumer. Right. The brand targets
domestic urban consumers, right. So we are going to prepare, I'm going to show you how to
prepare two different decks. One that is specifically for investors. We are going to stick with
that target audience and one a different one which is for the internal use for the internal
company members, right. So let's head onto it. So if you can have a look at my screen, I’ve
given a little brief on what the pitch is going to be like, so we start with identifying the typical
lead, which is going to be your Founder or CEO, right. They are the persons who's going to
be presenting to the investor, right. And they're, they are going to talk about the vision, the
credibility, and the passion that investors really want to see. This role is supported by maybe
finance, maybe the chief finance officer who's going to cover and give inputs on financials,
projections, and fundings. Again, another, another additional role is played by the chief
product or the tech officer who's going to talk about the products or who's going to explain
the innovation that the brand is all about. Now, the tone and the focus of your artifact is going
to be persuasive, it's going to be concise, and it's going to be number driven. Digital Design

author. Remember, this is all about convincing the investors to invest into the brand. So it
has to be number driven and it has to be very much fact oriented. So heavy emphasis is
going to be on market opportunity, the traction that it can offer, scalability, return on interest,
and things like that. Your storytelling is going to be very strategic. It, it's going to be more
about, this is my problem, this is the solution to my problem. And it's, it's, it's a win situation
for you and why. And the goal mainly is of course, to secure the funding to convince the
investors that this particular brand has a possibility of great growth and the team is really
capable of doing it right. So if you see, on the screen, what I've done is I have created a
bank, so to say of different typography that I'm going to use. If you see this particular
typography is called Radley, and I'm going to use it in this particular brand. Remember this
goes back to what my brand identity is all about, which is vibrant, quirky, spontaneous and
things like that, right. So these are the different types of typographic sizes that I'm going to
use with the same, same type. Right. I've also created a bank on the brand visual colour
identity and the different elements and tokens that I'm going to use. So if you see I've
identified 6 really pop, vibrant colours that relates really well with my brand story. And I've
also created a bank of different images, which are very much Indian, very much modern at
the same time, playful, joyful, colourful that tells the story about my brand, right. This, this
verbal and visual identity is key when you're communicating to any person inside or outside
your brand. Right. So we are going to now start creating the, the artifact. So what I've done
is I'm going to start blank in this case. I'm not going to pick any template. What I'm going to
do is remove this template, right. So I'm going to add some really nice background colour,
pop colours, right. There you go. So I'm going to choose my brand colour. There you go.
right. Then I'm going to pick my main typography, heading and add it here. Digital Design

author. Let's say I'm going to insert a text box. I search for my typography Bradley and say
Masala Nest. That's the name of my brand. I stick to the colours. And possibly increase the
font size to, let's say, there you go. Now you will see me copying these colours that's
because I want the exact colour to reflect here. See how, how much of a difference this
makes. I'm going to select one nice pop image to mark. There you go. I am going to stick to
the same font family, no change. I will just decrease the font sizing, maybe right align it and
mention here the person, let's say who's going to be delivering the align It. Alignment is key
to professionalism, so make sure all your elements are well-aligned, well-placed. It gives a
good visual balance. I'm going to pick one other element from my token bank and again,
sticking to the colours. There you go our first page is sort of ready. I moved to my second
page, which is going to talk about the brand essence. Now I'm going to go down a notch on
the font sizing here. But I am going to play around with the placement. Remember, our brand
is fun, quirky, so we do have a little leeway in playing around a little bit. I'm going to copy the
same element, of course, change the colour and the length as per requirement. And now I'm
going to talk about, let's say discover the heart or, and maybe soul of Masala Nest, vibrant
identity. We are talking about the brand essence again, change the font type. And then we
go about writing a little bit about the brand. Embodies quirky, colourful, and joyful full lifestyle
inspired by the rich tapestry of Indian culture. We blend traditional motives and ideas with
modern design. To create innovative products, our core value focus is on making every
moment enjoyable through creativity and spontaneity, inviting every one, two, celebrate life
with us. So this is a gist of the essence of the brand that we want to talk about. Now, to hit it
with one hero image. There you go. Since this is the body of the text, I want the size to be
slightly less than my heading and subheading and then the body. So you see how the flow
goes when we are trying to make communicative decks. Right. I move to the next slide,
which is going to talk about, Digital Design Tools: Documentation and Presentation Course

kind of products we have. I don't need this image. Now, let's say we have home decor,
vibrant, let's say cushions and yeah, I need the text box to be a little smaller, vibrant
cushions and let's say wall art, to inspire joy again, size has to be a little less as this is my
subheading. Now I will simply duplicate this so that it is much more easier. There is no
differentiation. And you see that red line, which is coming, that's kind of like your guideline
that tells you that yes, your text is now well-aligned with the other on the page. Next product
is, let's say, fashion and here we talk about apparel featuring bold colours and quirky
designs. I want them all in two lines, so I'm going to align it in the same way, maybe increase
the text box if required. Again, I'm looking for that, that red line, that guideline to come, which
means it's now aligned well. Accessories is the next category, and here we talk about
unique, let's say jewellery and maybe bags with playful details. So do you see how I keep
repeating the, the identity words for the brand? We again talk about vibrant, quirky, colourful,
playful. So remember, you need to keep re-emphasizing your brand identity again and again
so that it reinforces into the mind of your viewers, right. I'm going to choose some other, let's
say background colour. So now in this, my background changes to, there you go. However, I
need some nice hero images. I'm going to go back to my bank. And maybe pick some
relevant images like this make sure it is centrally aligned. In fact, all your texts can be
centrally aligned here. right. There you go. Again, I'm looking for these guidelines to help me
guide, align my images. There you go. Now I can see visually though the bottom part is
well-balanced. However, my top part is looking a little off, so what I'm going to do is I'm going
to change it to central align. Yeah, that makes it better. Align it centrally on my page. Yeah.
And this token as well. Yeah. This looks way better and way more balanced. Digital Design

author. So our second, third slide is also ready. Just going to duplicate it. Now, next we are
going to talk about, let's say since it's an investor slide, maybe I want to talk about my design
philosophies. So yeah, there you go. So here we talk about, I don't need so much. Because I
don't need, I'm going to not, never repeat the image doesn't look great. So what I'm going to
do is talk about my design philosophy. So let's say blending tradition with modern, modernity
that's my design philosophy and maybe talk a little bit about it. So we interpret or we
reinterpret, reinterpret heritage, heritage with fresh, joyful designs. So as you can see, again,
we are repeating. So I'm just going to go back and just check on what font size I used. 18
and 16. So I'm going to stick to it. 18. right. And this goes down a little bit. This, we went
down to 15, so that is not okay. We are going to make it back to 16. All these things look may
sound a little tedious, but it's a necessity because they make great impact visually in your
artifacts. There you go. So it's well-aligned. Then we will go with one hero image. Let's say if
you're talking about design philosophy, maybe this image fits better. Oh, okay. Here it's, let's
move it on the page. Always hold, and when you want to resize your image, use your shift
button to resize it. Otherwise, sometimes what happens is the image gets skewed a little bit
and goes off balance. So I'm not really very happy with the slide, so what I'm going to do is
I'm going to make some visual changes to create some impact. I'm going to remove the
center aligned, make it side aligned, same with the heading as well. Accordingly, I will realign
the placement. Decrease the element size and now increase the size of my visual
accordingly. There you go. This looks more impactful, creates a bit of more, not mirror
balance, but irregular balance. However, this font colour is not popping out that much, so I'm
just going to change it to, yeah, that makes a difference. Just going to change it to different
colour. Again I'm going to change the background of my slide. I'm going to pick this this blue.
There you go. Now you'll see we are ready with 4 slides.

again. So I'm just going to take it and let's say my next slide is going to be about, let's say
market opportunities. For now, I'm just moving it on the side for my ease. Now, let's say, I say
65% of consumers prefer unique lifestyle brands emphasizing a shift, shift towards culturally
inspired sciences. India's home decor market. Home decor sector is booming. Now, when
we say it is booming, we have to give some numbers to convince the investors, so we say
valued at, let's say over $2 billion and, and expanding rapidly. Right. Now, when we say
rapidly expanding, we need to give some reasons for it. Rising income urbanization,
consumer appetite. Right. So these are the reasons why the market is growing really well.
And since I've claimed certain number of figures and numbers and data is there, I'm going to
give the source of information, which it's going to add credibility to my data. So let's say I got
the data from McKinley Research, McKinley Research, right. So this gives credibility to my
data. I realign my element. And then since here we are talking about market opportunities. I
find this rarely quirky image of a map and place it here. Sorry. There you go. There you go.
Now our next slide is going to talk about, let's say. The colour is what I'm background colour
I'm going to use, and we are going to talk about our USP. So maybe what sets us apart and
we say our wit, right. And talk about what we mean clever designs that delight and surprise.
Next is let's say warmth and products that evoke comfort, right. We're talking about warmth,
so comfort, happiness. Next is spontaneity and fresh, playful energy in every collection. Of
course the same images I cannot use, so I'm going to pull down from my stock images
centrally aligned. So if you see the, even the images are communicating the same
messages, right. The visuals need to communicate what you're talking about. Digital Design

author. Align it as per the guidelines. There you go. Our sixth slide is also ready. Now we
have to talk about the selling point, right. So I'm going to reuse the blue colour and I'm going
to talk about the growth strategy, very essential. Now, I don't want any image in this.
Because it's just going to create more diversions, and I don't want that. I want the investors
to be really focused on what I'm talking about here. So I'm just going to give them numbers
here. Okay. Show them some idea on how this is going to go ahead for them. So I'm going to
pick this element. It looked like an interesting shape to me. So I have picked it up. I'm going
to give it my brand colour, like this element again. And here I'm going to talk about, let's say,
give them a timeline. So, wow. Let's say centrally align it. Give them maybe a projection of 3
years should be good enough to start with for the investors. Align it as per guidelines. 2027.
Duplicate it. Right. Now I'm going to just pull my text box from the previous slide rather than
making it again and again. It's always easy to pick and choose from the earlier slides. That
makes it more consistent and makes it more, I would say, easier to talk about. You don't
have to keep checking. Keep wasting your time in checking whether the font type is right.
The size is right. Okay, so here I'm going to talk about the launch of new products, product
and collaborations. Right. Then what will happen in 2007? Yeah, it's, we are going to, let's
say, strengthen digital retail presence. So you're showing them the pathway on how you plan
to proceed with your brand. right. This is kind of giving them a reassurance that you know
what you're doing. Okay. I'm waiting for that guideline to, yeah. There you go. Let's say we're
going to engage in engage with community via events. So this is what our growth strategy is
going to be like. But again I'm not liking the balance of this page. It looks a little off, so I'm
going to stick to centrally aligning my move, the entire thing. Also, here you have the option
of grouping all your elements together. So if you see now all these elements have been
grouped together, so when you want to move them, it becomes more easier it moves as a

4. 6, 7, 8, 9, 0. So if you press shift and then shift with your arrow keys, you can shift a larger
distance as compared to just when you're using your arrow keys. I'm going to go back and
pick this element. Of course not so long, even shorter. And just place them in between here
and here, and we are ready. So having a quick look from the beginning, this is our main
slide, our brand essence product portfolio, maybe I want to highlight this bit a little bit. So
what I'm going to do is I'm just going to highlight it by using bold. So as you see, there are
ways of highlighting within your constraints, your design constraints. Again, this point is
mean for us, so we are going to highlight it by making it bolder. Market opportunity maybe I
want to highlight on these figures, so I make it bolder and again, $2 billion. Here also, we
want to highlight what we're talking about so we can, it's always a good idea to quickly
check, scroll through, and check once you are done with it, so that you know that everything

going to come back and we are going to redesign the same thing, but for a different set of
target audience, not the investors, but we are going to design it for internal use of the

are going to continue with the same example and the same brief. However, we are going to
twist and tweak it a little bit as per the end user change. So the earlier one was designed for
our investors. This one, however, we are going to design it for our own internal users and our
own internal employees and members viewing purposes, right. So if you have a look at my
screen, what I'm going to show you here is a little brief on what our audience is all about. So,
since the audience is internal members, typically who will be giving this kind of a
presentation deck is either your branding or maybe your marketing head, or maybe even the
company CEO, right. Because they're the best person who would know about the brand
identity and the vision and the mission of the brand, right. The supporting roles here will be
played by possibly HR who would tell and guide about the roles and the different work
scenarios, and also the design lead and the creative director who will play a big, big role in
explaining what your visual identity is going to be about why these motives, why these
templates and things like that. Now the tone and focus here is different. The previous one
was persuasion. Now here, the tone and focus is going to be different. It is going to be more
inspirational. It's going to talk about being more practical, and it's going to be telling you all
about inclusivity, why you are part of this particular brand. Join us on this journey. right. So
emphasis is going to be on the foundations of the brand. It's going to be about talking about
the identity of the brand on and also on how each team member can kind of relate to the
particular brand, right. Storytelling is going to be very cultural. It's going to talk about this is
what we are, it's all about making you happy and this is how you're going to make it come
alive in your work situations and when, when you design different artifacts, right. The goal is
to kind of energize your team. It's, it's going to be all about aligning your team to the vision of
the brand. It's going to ensure the consistency in terms of understanding the brand voice, the
visuals, so governance, all these will follow automatically. Digital Design Tools:

governance, the consistency follows automatically, right. We are going to stick to the same
brand kit, so we have a set of typographic tokens that we have selected. Again, the brand
visual tokens do not change, and I have a certain set of reference images since time is of a
constraint. So here we go. Again, I'm going to stick to the same type, which is readily and the
same size, which is going to be 65, and here comes my heading, Masala Nest. I need this to
be centrally aligned. Go back to my visual token bank. One single hero image. I am going to
stick to the same one as what I used in my investor slide deck. So you'll see how I'm
adapting the already existing artifact to mold to my current requirements. This is where the
importance of your templates, importance of your bank comes in picture. So you would've
seen now I'm not changing backgrounds as per every slide. I have just picked the same
colour story as what was already existing. I'm going to insert another text here. Right align it
and name of the person who's going to present, and let's say it's the brand strategist, right.
They're the best people to talk about the brand. There you go. First slide is ready. Now for
the next one, we are going to stick to our same typography, bold, italics, right aligned. This is
going to go much quicker because we are well aligned with the elements of our artifact. So
I'm hoping this is going to go more quicker. So this is going to talk about our brand essence.
Same story we are following here. Just for my ease, I'm going to put the same text of course.
I'm going to talk about my brand a sense. Now, slight change in language, let's say
celebrating the vibrancy of Indian culture through again, joyful living. We stick to the story,
but the wordings have changed a little bit from our investor slide. Talk about it a little bit. Let's
say Masala Nest embodies a quirky colourful and joyful lifestyle inspired by rich tapestry of
Indian culture. Our brand values, warmth very, very important to convey to your audience
what is your brand value all about, especially the core values. So brand values, warmth, wit,
spontaneity, inviting everyone to experience fun moments. Digital Design Tools:

how the image is very much relevant to what we are talking about here. I'm just trying to
align the image so that it looks well-balanced as well as the element. Feels a little
imbalanced, I'm just going to create some white space. There you go. A second slide is also
ready. Now here in this one, third slide we are going to talk about and inform our viewers
about verbal identity, which tells us the voice and tone of the brand. So you see how the
topics of your artifact will reflect and change as per your audience in your, in your investor
slide, it was more about market, opportunity, strategy, numbers, data, returns all those things
because we have to persuade right here. It is more of an information, right. We are talking
about including, inclusivity we are talking about how you can be part of our family, right. So
that's what we have to communicate. I'm going to copy the same text box. I don't need this.
And here we are going to talk about give them some one, hit them with one, some major
remark. Let's say embrace witty, warm, and spontaneous expressions. Let's centrally align it
because I think this calls for a central alignment. It looks much better with that. You would've
noticed how I keep judging the white space in between it's critical, right. To give some
breathing space to your artifacts, it's very, very much needed. Now, this requires some hero
image, so we are talking about verbal identity, so I think this image goes really well. There
you go. Third slide is also ready. With this, we move to our next one. Maybe I can just copy
this. Of course I'll have to change the font colour. Let me use this or let me try this. No, I
think the other one is more popping. There you go. This also needs to change line colour.
There you go. Here we are going to talk about visual identity components. Right. So here we
are going to talk about a couple of things like your logo and here, let's say unique logos
represent our brand essence, right. Yeah, I think this is better aligned like that. Okay. Let me
figure it out after I've placed all my text boxes, I'll just duplicate it again, looking for that grid

say icons reflect. Think quirkiness, quirkiness of the brand. Right now, I need to not just say
this, but also emphasize this. So there you go. Some logo options I need to show as a visual
aspect. Okay, now when we talk about colour palette. I am just going to edit this a little bit. I
don't think I need the other bits of it, so I'm just going to chop it off. There you go. Bring it as
the same size as your other image. Right. Now we come to the typography, some samples
and the last one is iconography. Oops. Yeah, there it's press shift and then delete. Okay. I'm
just going to give proper spacing between all using the guidelines that you can see on the
screen. Yeah, so there you go. Align your text with your image using guidelines again. And
there you go. Our next slide is also ready. Move to our fifth slide where we want to talk
about, let's say design philosophy. Again, hit them with one thing that you want to
communicate. Let's say blending tradition, not with modern. We are not changing this. Right.
This is what we told to our investors as well, can't communicate a different message
because this will not change. right. Your design philosophy will not change. It remains
consistent throughout, right. One hero image is what I need. Let me see which one can I
use. Maybe this one. I don't think I need the element to be till here and probably I can
distribute the weight like that. So if you see our, our slide is well-balanced with the text being
heavy in the top left and the image balancing it out really well on the bottom right.

Yeah, that makes more sense. There you go. So here we say discover our diverse discover
our diverse audience. Audience and let's say marketing strategy. So we can say we cater to
the Indian diaspora and maybe global as well. Eventually global design enthusiasts.
Capturing the essence of white print lifestyle. See, we keep repeating certain words so that
the messaging comes across consistent. And there is no cross connection, right. So our
unique, let's see, blend of colours and let's say culture free resonates, resonates with
millennials seeking authentic styles. So this is what our market is all about, right. And now
let's say I want to use a certain different kind of a format. Let me see if I can fit it here. I want
to align my text like this, centrally alignment. Let me see if it can fit it. Yeah, and let me
remove those for a little bit. Now here okay, let me add my hero image. These are the ones I
had in mind. Yeah. Here slight change in my formatting just to bring in a little interest for the
audience. And now let me try to fit it. More I can squeeze it in more. I'm trying to manage my
white space, critical information, everything. Right. Right. Here comes my second image, just
changing the view a little bit. Yeah, much better. Now, I'm going to centrally align it. I feel this
is a little up sided. Yes. Again, I'm using guidelines to help me align it centrally. Playing a little
bit with the space. I think this needs to be centrally aligned. Yeah. See changes, right. Digital

it'll be, let's say, fresh playful energy in every collection. So we are sticking to the same,
same consistent story, right. Aligning it in the center. This needs a little realignment going for
the hero images. Which ones have I not used? Yeah, let's hit this. So the guideline tells me
it's in the center. So I stop warmth, right. Yes, it is in the center. And our last image for the
slide, appropriate placement is what I'm trying to achieve here. Yeah. There you go. Seventh
slide is also ready. We move to our last slide. Let me just bring this text here. And again, this
is going to be your call to action, right. I don't think I need this. I'm just going to continue with
this. So thank you for joining Masala Nest journey. So see, the messaging is a little different.

tool of presentation, and that tool is called as Canva. Now this is a very user-friendly tool that
you can utilize to make your presentations, design posters, design creatives. A lot of things
can be done using this particular tool, right. So let's dive right into it and explore how this
Canva works. So if you have a look at the screen what you first need to do is you need to
create a Canva account and log into it. And once you log into it, the first screen that opens
up is your homepage. So you'll see a lot of icons on it. Don't get too confused about it. It's
very, very easy interface to use at. So let's say we have to design a presentation. You can
use the search bar actually to search presentation. And then you can go and explore
different designs, images. You can categorize it into a presentation and then search for it.
Refine your search or what you can do is you can just click this icon that says presentation
here. You move on to a different screen, and the first screen that opens up here is what we
call as a template, right. So in this template screen, if you scroll, you'll see already
pre-prepped templates that have been all added here that you can kind of go and go ahead
and use it. Now, if you make a note here, there are certain templates which have this crown
icon in it. Now, what this icon means is that you need a pro-account to access it, which is
basically a Canva paid account. Nevertheless, there are many presentation templates which
you can kind of just use and pick. So let's say, I pick, let me go back, let's say a startup pitch
tech right. Now, if you hover your mouse onto it, you can see the slider sliding and you can
see all the different 15 PPTs slides on it, right. So let's say I click on it and I select it. Then it
gives me an option to apply all 15 pages. I go ahead and apply it. There you go. And I can
start working on this already pre-prepped template that is there. Now, the good thing about

convenience, right. So let's say I want to put my company name, I can edit it to ABC
Company. I can change this icon, delete it, put in my own icon. Let me say, I want it to be a
sales pitch deck. I can change the heading presented by, let's say you want to put your
name and you can really go ahead and edit all these texts as well. Now, let's say I don't like
this image. I can go ahead and remove it or let's say I don't like the size of this image. I can
actually play around with editing its size. Maybe I want a little bit more smaller. Let's say I
don't like this element. It's creating a lot of confusion. I remove that and there you go. right.
You can also go ahead and add grid lines and ruler guides to it. You go to settings, you go to
file, and you open your settings, and then you show this option, and here you go. The top
and the ruler lines, bottom ruler lines, both are there. So you just need to drag and place it.
So what this will help you do is it'll help you align your different elements on the page. So
that there is consistency maintained, same you can do with your top grid. You can ensure
that all the icons are aligned together, right. Let's say I want to realign all these, very simple
task of just selecting and moving. So these numbers that you see 103 everywhere along with
the guidelines, it just gives us an idea of the spacing between different elements. So even if
you don't have your guidelines, kind of this gives you an idea on how to move around on the
page and place it. There you go. You can change the size of the font. You can place it like
this. So you can see how easy it is to go ahead. Let's say I want to align it with this icon. All I
need to do is move my guideline and there you go. Right. I can also probably go ahead and
change the background if I want to. So you click on the background and you click on the
colour bar and you see a whole lot of colours, which you have an option to select from. See,

talks about today's agenda. Let's say I want to remove certain elements, move the image.
Now let's say if I want to insert a certain element, I go into elements and I have all these
categories, shapes, graphics. I can even insert photos, videos. I can animate it. So let's say
if I want to insert certain shapes, now you can see different types of lines, right. Let's say I
want to select an arrow. I can go ahead and change the stroke style. It can be multiple
options that I have here. I can also change the stroke weight, so if you see it has gotten
thicker, right, lesser. Now I feel this font size is a little smaller for my page. So what I can do
is I can actually select it all together. You have to press shift and continue to select your
different elements of the text, and then what I'll do is I'll simply increase the size. If I want to
bold it to emphasize, possibly group them altogether. So what that does is, it helps me
moving everything in one go altogether. There you go. Now I feel this image is creating a lot
of clutter. I can simply do away with it and maybe utilize this image instead, increase it size.
Play around with it if you want to duplicate it, all you need to do is press shift and D after
selecting, and if you double tap on the image, you'll get the option to edit or crop the image.
So you can do it freeform, you can do it, you can convert it back to the original size as in
when you require. I don't need the guidelines, so I'm just going to do away with it for now.
There you go. Let me move to this third slide. This talks about the introduction. Now I can
also add a text box. See, it's letting me edit. There you go. So you can add the text box. It'll
give you all different kinds of options of adding different font combinations. These are all
pre-templated ones. So if you can see, you can see the template already made. However,
this is not going with our branding, so we are going to avoid it. But yeah, this option is there
for you all to use. Now you can see this option of brand. It's a pro-option. Basically, you'll
have to pay for it. But what this facility does is you can add all your branding elements here
into the Canva. Keep it ready for future use with the team and all the assets you can add it

electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording or otherwise – without the prior permission
of the author. So all the different logos, all the guidelines that you want to use, different
colours, fonts, the voice of your brand, any graphics and images, icons, so on and so forth
can all be added here for quick access within your internal team. It's a great, great feature to
have. Now we come to the next one, which is upload. Now using this feature, you can
upload certain files that are there in your computer, right. So what we can do is, let's say, I
want to upload this, so you can see the logo has been uploaded, and then you can utilize
this particular logo, this particular graphic, this particular image in your slide. So it's an easy,
easy upload. Next one is the different tools that are available here, which are your drawing,
again different shapes some lines, sticky notes in case you want to add, and so on and so
forth. Now, this talks about the different projects that you would have worked on. It gives you
an idea on the recent projects that you have worked on. So as you can see, it is, it is a very,
very easy tool to utilize in your documentation, right. And it gives you a lot of flexibility to
move things around, to play around with your canvas. Let's say I want to add more slides
into it, so I'll just click on this ad option. I can also add different sheets or a document into
this particular presentation itself, it's that option is available, right. So it's a pretty easy option
to work around with. Now, one feature, which I find really interesting over here is I just have
to move back to the homepage, is this Canva AI. Now what this AI does is it helps you
create presentations using AI. So what you need to do here is you need to give and describe
your prompt really, really well in detail and very, very crisply. And what a, what Canva AI will
do is it'll try to help you create presentation for you, right. So let's experiment. I have a
simple prompt ready with me. What I'm going to do is I'm just going to feed it into the Canva
AI. So what I'm going to do is, if you recall back to our earlier sessions, we had made a
presentation on a brand called Orion, right. I'm going, I'm just going to go back to the same
brief and I'm going to ask Canva AI to make some 8 odd slides for my brand. The brief
remains the same. It is going to be used by the internal members of the company. Digital

to be, right. So I've just, that's what my brief says over here. I'm going to prompt it and
submit it, and here you go. Let's see what comes up. So the AI says it's thinking. Give it a
moment. There you go. So it has given me an idea on what my 8 slides are going to be
talking about. The first one is going to be an introductory slide. The second one is going to
talk about my brand essence. Third one is going to talk about the visual identity of the brand.
Next is the colour palette, the typography and the logo used. Then the verbal identity, the
tone, the voice, and so on and so forth. Here it talks about the templates of the team can use
and call to action. So let's see and generate, and let's see what, what it comes up with. It
says it's going to brainstorm. Please wait a minute. Let's see. Now it's finalizing the designs.
It's a very interesting feature that Canva has come up with. I feel it kind of it doesn't, you
shouldn't depend on the work that is being done by the AI. I would say what AI is is there, it's
there to support and give you maybe a startup, starting framework, a jump off point, which
you can utilize to kind of design your presentations. Right. You've talked about the brief,
you've given it all kind of directions, so it it's going to give you some framework and some
guidelines to jump off from. I think it's a good feature to have. Give it another couple of
seconds. The more detailing you give to the AI, the more chances are that it'll be precise in
giving the information out. So hopefully the prompt that we give will be enough to at least
give a very relevant framework. So it's coming up with something so you can see it has
come up with 8 slides, and when we click on it, it gives us the bigger detailing. And now what
we can use is we can use the Canva editor option here to edit the created slide. Great
feature, right. So here you can, you have access to all the elements that is there, that is
created, and then you can edit these and modify it as per your requirement. Right. Digital

don't think I need two images. I'm just going to go away with this and then maybe if I want to
in insert my branding, I can just go ahead and insert. Remove this. Maybe I'd like to insert a
bigger font, some realignment. I want more emphasis on my brand name. Just going to
increase the font. And there you go. So you see how we can use the AI to kind of get a jump
off on the presentation and then go about editing each and every component within your
presentation, right. It's a great feature to have. You can add pages, you can remove pages.
So many options are there. You can resize the page. Delete the page, right. So you'll see
how Canva is a really, really flexible tool that you can use to design your presentations. If
you want to go back to the homepage, you can see all these different icons that are present
here. You can even create documents in your Canva and utilize this instead of your word
documents to create, create really interesting documents. However, again please remember
that design is all about having certain restrictions as well. It's not just about appearance, it's
also about the functionality and the utility of what your design is trying to communicate. So
please remember and keep that in your mind that the restrictions that are going, that you're
going to place within yourself into is, is there for a reason, right. So use these tools, be it
Canva, be it your Google Slides, be it your word documents, be it any tool, right. Tools will
keep coming, tools will keep going, but remember the purpose and the need behind using
such tools, right. So there you go. Canva.

the interview session. We are back again with Professor Neha to dive deeper into the
practical as aspects of presentation slides and tools. In this session, we'll be address some
relevant and real world questions from working efficiently in Google Slides and Canva to
managing brand assets, aligning design elements, and collaborating with large teams. We'll
also explore how to maintain consistency, we use components and prepare presentation for
different audiences while ensuring control and clarity. So let's get started. So my first
question for you is when we are working with Google Slides, so how do we change the
layouts across all the slides at once? Ms. Neha Dubey: So there's an option to edit the
master slide in Google Slides. Now what this does is, at a single go, you can change the
updates and you can, that gets enforced on each and every slide, right. What this does is it
saves a lot of time, it saves a lot of work, and the consistency of the whole layout is
remaining constant in that case. So what I'll do is I'll also give you a small demo on how that
can be done. Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: Yeah. Ms. Neha Dubey: If you can see my screen,
what I have done here is I have just taken one simple template and to change, apply the
changes. What you need to do is you can go to the slide option and you can edit the theme.
Now, when you do that, you can see all the backend work that is there in the template. In
this, you select the master slide and it shows you the exact pathways on how the
presentation is moving. So when you inculcate any changes in this particular slide. It gets
reflected throughout, right. And then you need to apply it across and it gets reflected in your
entire template. This, so this is one of the quicker ways in which you can empower your slide
into a constant template. Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: Okay. So my next question for you is, so if
we want to add a brand logo to every slide, and I don't want to do it manually, so how can we

consistency and any kind of accidental removals or edits that can be done to your slide. So
what again you need to do is you can go to your slide edit again, the same thing, and you
can place your logo into your layout again here. Let's say a footer, if you want to delete it.
And that gets reflected throughout into your slide. So that is one of the, again, the easier
ways to enable your presentations. Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: Okay, so in Canva, how can we
centralize the brand assets so that the entire team can access and use it? right. Yeah. Ms.
Neha Dubey: So, I have spoken about this in my earlier session also there's an option in
your Canva that talks about your brand kit, right. So it, your brand kit, as I've told you, is a
single, single source of truth when, when it comes to your branding and when it comes to
your asset management. So all your colours, all your font, all your themes, all your logos, et
cetera, et cetera, and all your elements are present in your brand kit, which can actually be
uploaded in a section which is there in Canva. I'll tell you how the, how to access that.
Basically, what you'll need to do is you'll need to log into your Canva and if you see this
option called brand. You click on that and you see this option of brand kit. So this is where
you can upload all your assets, your logos, colours, fonts, photographs, graphics, icons,
things like that, right. The only point that you need to remember this is that this is a
pro-version of Canva which basically means it's kind of paid, right. Yeah. So you need to, to
access this facility, you need to pay for the service. Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: Okay. So when
you have multiple objects on a slide, so how do you evenly space it and align it with them,
like how can we exactly do that? Ms. Neha Dubey: So there's an option during your, in your,
in your Google Slides, which says you can align and distribute the weightage accordingly. So
how, how do you do that? Again, this gives this this aligns with the consistency, it aligns with,

permission of the author. So it's important for those aspects. How do you, how you can do it
is, let me give you a quick demo. You'll have to click on arrange, you'll have to select all the
options. You go to a range, and then if you see you have this option of align. And then within
that there are multiple options of left align, center align, right align, top, middle, bottom.
Again, in distribute you have the option of horizontal, vertical. You can even centrally place it
on the page horizontally or vertically again, and you can even go ahead and rotate it in
different dimensions. So these options are available in your google slides to do it. Ms.
Pargavi Ravikumar: Okay. So how can you insert the images from different sources and
provide, optimize it differently like, explain. Ms. Neha Dubey: Yeah. It is, it is very important
that you maintain the quality of your images. We don't want our presentations to look low
quality because of the, pixelated versions of your images. So always make sure that your
images that you're putting on your presentations are high JPEGs or high PNG value. You
can do that again by going to your insert option within that there is an option to insert the
image and there is an option to insert it from your computer. You can insert it from your stock
or the web. Again, you also have the option to insert it from your drive or your photo this
thing or directly from your camera, or even by inserting a URL. So these many options are
available for you to insert in your Google Slides. Now when we come to Canva, you can
actually insert it. Let's say, let me just quickly open one template. Let me apply it quickly. And
within that, if you see here on my screen, there is an option that says, upload. Now here, you
can actually upload your files which could come within your laptop or computer, and you can
create your own photo bank within your Canva account and upload it into your presentations.
Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: Okay, so when I'm using Canva, I often see that there's a log
feature. So what exactly is the purpose of it? Digital Design Tools: Documentation and

a very good feature that Canva has come up with. And what it does is it, it protects your
slides and locks all the elements on the slide so that there is no accidental changes that you
can, you can make by mistake on your slides, right. So what you need to do is, it's very
simple. You just need to select your element and you do a right click on it. And automatically,
if you see there's an option that says lock. So it's very easy on Canva. On your Google
slides, there is there's not really an option to lock it per se, but what you can do is you can
select the elements that you want to be not moving. And what you can do is you can group
them together and maybe also add a comment on the slide and ask the instructors or people
who are collaborating with you on the presentation to not to ungroup it so that it stays where
it's meant to be staying. Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: From a design perspective, so how
important is it to reuse the layouts all the components across the presentation? Ms. Neha
Dubey: Yeah, so we've been consistently talking about this point, right. To keep to, to first
make, make such elements which you can put into your brand kit so that your team
members and your collaborators can go ahead and use these again and again to save time
to maintain consistency so that you stick to your brand guidelines that are, that have been
given by your organization. What these templates do is they kind of freeze your layout and
your tokens so your teams can really go ahead and produce on point, on brand work quickly.
There is, there is no discrepancy in terms of which colours should I be using or which
elements should I be using. You remove all those discrepancies, which are there. So the
governance, which has been, put in place by the organization in terms of branding remains
consistently and you follow it consistently. So, yeah, it's quite key that you, you form your

size variants of the same design without starting from scratch again and again? Ms. Neha
Dubey: Yeah. You can do that, especially in Canva. What you can do is there's an option of
magic resize, which saves huge amount of time when you're repurposing your assets for
different kinds of format. So to resize, it's actually very easy In Google Slides, what you can
do is you can simply select your presentation and you can do a command or a shift D that
duplicates the size. Yeah, so it's easy in Google slides. In Canva, when you open your
whatever slide or presentation that you're making, if you see on the top left side there is an
option that says resize. If you click on it, it gives you the option to resize into, let's say you
want to make it into a campaign or you want to make it into an Instagram story, or you want
to make it into a post. So these are the templates that have been pre-planned and
pre-provided within that digital tool that is there in front of you. And you can use these tools
to resize your presentations. Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: Okay. So if I feel that my earlier
version of my slide is better in a way, so is there any way to go back and use my same slide,
which I have done previously? Ms. Neha Dubey: Yeah, that is possible. I would say
versioning your history or versioning your presentation or your digital tool or your artifact is
sometimes kind of like your safety net, right. You can, you can go back and see the audits
you've done and you can see what all changes have been made, especially when there are
multiple collaborators who are working on the same artifact, right. So you can always go
back and, and change it. So what you can do is you'll have to open the presentation. You
have to go to, let me first take up the slide. You'll have to go to file and then within that I am
trying to find that. Yeah, here you go. There's the version history, and you can click on, see
version history and all the changes done pops up on your right side and you can actually
click on it. And go back to the version history that is that you want to go back to. So it's quite
easy and very helpful when you do audits within your work.

of the author. FAQ Session-2 Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: So if we work on Google Sheets and
we do all the data analysis and we visualize, can we use those pie charts or bar diagrams in
our Canva or Google sheet? Can we link it? Is there any way? Ms. Neha Dubey: Yes, yes.
There is a way. So this is key when you want to validate and when you, when you want to
give proof and add weightage to whatever you've been talking about in a presentation. Okay.
So, data linking is, is one of the very good features that both of these digital tools provide to
us. Yeah. So what you'll have to do here is you have to go to insert, you go to chart, and let's
say there's an option called From Sheets. You click on that. So what it'll do is it'll take you to
the location where you want to extract or import your sheet from. So you can do it from your
drive, you can do it from shared drive or even from your desktop, and click on it and it gets
inserted into your presentations. Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: Okay. So from a branding
perspective, how would you show the hierarchy between the master brand and a sub-brand
on a slide. Ms. Neha Dubey: So sometimes tiering it or maybe columnizing it kind of gives
you the option to develop hierarchy in your presentation. So let's say a 2-tier layout will give
you the subbrand, will give you a sub-brand, this space to express itself. And the master
brand will, or the master slide will kind of endorse the get, gets endorsed clearly and
consistently. If you see the screen that I have put on display, it is very clear that I have a 3
column tier working here. This being my one column, this being another one. And this being
the third one. So if you see I have built here 3 different levels of tiers that is very clearly
demarcating and showing the hierarchy that is being displayed in my presentation. Ms.
Pargavi Ravikumar: Okay, so if I'm running a business and if I have a large team, which
includes leadership, finance, marketing, designers, and operations. So is there a way for all
the stakeholders to review the presentation without editing the content, content? Yeah.

of the author. Ms. Neha Dubey: So there's a great option called comments, which is present
in both Canva and in your Google Slides. What this does is it gives you an option to action it,
but at the same time without disrupting or making any changes within the structure of the
presentation. So when you assign it to certain people it, what it does is it sends them a
notification, but at the same time doesn't make any changes to the presentation. So what
you can do is if you select the object, which is what I'm, I have just done, right click on it and
then it shows you this option of comment. When you click on comment, another small screen
pops up, and here you can, you can present, you can do at, and then tag whichever person
you want to comment and then add the comment and that works. So a notification goes to
the person whom you've just added to comment, and that person can freely give the
feedback without making any changes into the presentation structure. Ms. Pargavi
Ravikumar: So my next question is, how can one build a reusable slide template? Ms. Neha
Dubey: So this is better shown when I use an example. Let's say we want to build a product
as a template, right. Now what this does is it speeds up the creation and it ensures that
every element and card in that particular product uses the same tokens. It uses the same
spacing, it uses the same colors, and so on and so forth. So how that can be done is very
easy. For this, I'll need to open a new slide. So what I'll basically do is I'll create my own
template here. I'll quickly do, place some placeholders. Let's say I want a header here. Then
let's say I want an image here. Let's say I want the topic brief here, and then let's say within
that I want the body. So what you have done here is you've created your own kind of a
template. Which will help you standardizing your presentation as of now, right. So you, this is
what everyone will work on the same, the same elements, the same spacing, the same
iconography will be used by all. So this is one easy and quicker way to create your own
templates. Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: Okay. Digital Design Tools: Documentation and

we are the last question. So how do you prepare a presentation for external sharing, but still
you feel like certain information is sensitive and there are some internal information. So how
will you even block that? Is it possible? Ms. Neha Dubey: Yes, it is. It is possible. So, let me,
since this is the last question, let me let me give a little detailed answer to that. Before we
distribute our artifact, it is very important that you go through and run through your entire
artifact that you've made, right. It's key because it's going to go out. Yes. It's going to go to
external people. Yeah. So please review it really well. Like, like you've seen, we, there have
been so many options where we've added comments, we've given feedback, we've made
we've made notes. We've made changes and things like that. So make sure you remove
those all those internal notes, internal comments and things like that. You run back and you
study whether all the internal compliances and governances have been met or not, which
means that you go back, you study, colors. You study spacings, you study all your
typography and things like that. Also you lock the permissions to edit so that you, you protect
all your assets. It doesn't get misused, it doesn't get copied by other people. So these are
some few key points that you need to remember when your when your artifact is ready to be
shared with external people. Just a quick demo on how you can actually remove the speaker
notes. You can open your presentation and when you go to view, there's an option that says
show speaker notes. So if you click on that, all the speaker notes are there. You can't see it
here because obviously speaker notes are not here. But you can go ahead and remove it.
So, so make sure you do, do these kind of small checks before you share it with your
external stakeholders. Ms. Pargavi Ravikumar: Thank you. Ms. Neha Dubey: Thank you
