Writing Task 1 Practice

The document outlines two writing tasks; the first task describes the process of producing ethanol fuel from corn, detailing stages such as growing, milling, cooking, fermenting, and purifying. The second task discusses the importance of both physical and mental strength in sports, arguing that success requires a combination of both, depending on the type of sport. It emphasizes that practice and mental resilience can often outweigh pure physical ability.

Writing Task 1

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The diagram below shows how ethanol fuel is produced from corn.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where
relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

Ethanol fuel stems from growing and refining corn. The process involves multiple stages, often involving
a time limit.

The process first requires the corn to be grown, then stored, and then needs to be milled before moving
on to the next time-specific part of the chain. After the milling of the corn has been done, water needs
to be added to the corn before cooking it for 4 hours sharp. Likewise, the corn, rather the product of the
cooking then needs to be fermented for 48 hours straight.

The product then needs to be separated by distinguishing between solids and liquids respectively. As we
want to produce Ethanol, our priority will be on the leftover liquid obtained from the process. This liquid
will need to be purified for 5 hours, after which it will need to be stored and transported to the desired
locations accordingly. This is the process of obtaining Ethanol fuel from corn.

Writing Task 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Some people think that physical strength is important for success in sport, while other people think that
mental strength is more important. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

You should write at least 250 words.

Sport has been the medium of entertainment, thrill, and joy for centuries. Nevertheless, the athelites
who participate in sport need to have a high level of mental and physical endurance in order to gain
recognition by achieving awards through exceptional performance.
Sports now come in a very diverse range. Some sports, like car racing, require you to have superior
driving skills along with the ability to make split-second decisions correctly and accordingly. On the other
hand, sports like football, cricket, basketball, etc requires a person to have an excellent level of physical
capabilities along with coordination with team members.

Moreover, no matter the sport you choose, it all comes down to the amount of practice you've got. In
majority of the times, hard work outshines talent. The more you practice a skill, the more proficient you
become in it.

I contend that both physical and mental strength is important for success in sports. For example, an
unmotivated football team who easily crumbles before a majority of audience supporting the opposing
side are more likely to lose a match, even against a team which is constituted of average team members
(in terms of physical strength) with strategy, motivation, and unshakable willpower.

A F1 driver would need extreme level of coordination from eye movement to decision making. Training
to increase thier lung capacity would have a minimal impact on their success whereas the result would
be vastly different if a marathon runner decides to do it (as it would increase their endurance capacity). I
believe a mixture of both physical and mental strength is required to achieve success, although it varies
from sport to sport weather a person should focus on more physical or mental strength.
