Total Time:2 Hours (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Date: May 22, 2026

INSTRUCTIONS:
1) The strict deadline for this test is today at 4:00 PM. Your answers must be uploaded to
the designated folder at or before 4:00 PM. Late submissions will not be accepted under

submit their test on time will be marked Present. No submission will result in an
automatic Absent.
3) The use of Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, etc.) is strictly capped at a maximum of 5%
(permissible only for basic brainstorming or structuring guidelines). Any student whose
answer script indicates more than 5% AI-generated content will face immediate Failure in
this test.
4) This assessment carries significant weight and will have a direct impact on your final
course grades. Attempt it with absolute seriousness.
5) If you face any ambiguity or have questions regarding the test items during the
examination hours, you may text me directly.

SECTION A:

Answers should be clear, well-structured, and concise.

Question 1: Define a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and explain why it serves as the essential
baseline for developing project schedules (such as Gantt Charts or Network Diagrams). Differentiate
clearly between a WBS and a Project Scope Statement.

Question 2: Define the three primary metrics used in Earned Value Management (EVM): Planned Value
(PV), Earned Value (EV), and Actual Cost (AC). If an IT project reports a Cost Performance Index (CPI)
of 0.85 and a Schedule Performance Index (SPI) of 1.15, interpret what these metrics indicate about
the overall health and status of the project.

Question 3: What role do "Maturity Models" (such as the Capability Maturity Model Integration -
CMMI) play in Software Quality Assurance? Additionally, explain why it is crucial for a Project Manager
to construct a Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RAM) or a RACI chart during the human resource
planning phase.

Question 4: What is meant by a "Communications Infrastructure" within the context of an Information

Technology project? Identify and describe the most effective tools and techniques utilized by project
managers to distribute project performance reports to stakeholders.
SECTION B:

Scenario 1: You are appointed as the Project Manager for a critical Mobile Application Development
project. The client continuously demands new features every week (reflecting incomplete and
changing requirements), which is severely disrupting your team's development timeline and degrading
the software quality.

 Task: Based on the strategies outlined in your project scope and quality management modules,
propose three (3) specific management strategies you would implement to improve user
input, enforce scope change control, and protect software quality from degrading.

Scenario 2: Your software engineering team is developing a new backend database module for an E-
commerce platform. Due to technological complexities, the duration estimates for completing this
critical module are uncertain and have been gathered as follows:

 Optimistic Time ($O$) = 8 workdays

 Most Likely Time ($M$) = 10 workdays

 Pessimistic Time ($P$) = 24 workdays

 Task: 1. Calculate the expected activity duration using the PERT weighted average formula.

2. Explain why a Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) chart is preferred over the
standard Critical Path Method (CPM) when a project involves a high degree of uncertainty.

Scenario 3: As an IT Project Manager, you observe a severe communication breakdown between two
of your senior developers. According to the Social Styles framework, Developer A exhibits a "Driver"
profile (highly assertive, results-driven, and task-oriented), while Developer B exhibits an "Amiable"
profile (highly responsive, relationship-oriented, and prefers smooth interactions). Their clashing
communication styles have created a gap that is delaying project sprints.

 Task: Analyze this conflict and explain how you would resolve the interpersonal friction
between these two social profiles. What structural changes would you introduce to the
project's communications infrastructure to motivate the team and prevent such barriers in
future sprints?
