A. What is a Greeting Card?

A greeting card is a folded piece of paper or an e-card (electronic card) with a beautiful picture and a
message. We send greeting cards to other people to show our feelings, to congratulate them, or to
wish them well on special occasions.
 Simple Definition: A card you give to someone to say something
nice on a special day.
B. Purpose of Greeting Cards
The main purpose of a greeting card is to communicate a feeling or celebrate an event. We use it to:
1. Congratulate someone.
2. Wish someone happiness.
3. Cheer someone up.
4. Show our care and love.
5. Invite someone to an event.
C. Kinds of Greeting Cards
There are many kinds of greeting cards. Here are the most common ones for Grade 8:
1. Birthday Card: To wish someone a happy birthday.
2. Congratulation Card: To congratulate someone on their success, like winning a contest,
getting a new job, or graduating.
3. Thank You Card: To thank someone for their help, gift, or kindness.
4. Get Well Card: To wish someone who is sick a speedy recovery.
5. Seasonal Greeting Card: To celebrate holidays, like New Year Card or Eid al-Fitr Card.
D. Structure of a Greeting Card
A greeting card usually has three main parts:
1. Receiver : The name of the person who gets the card.
o Example: Dear Sinta, For my best friend, To my beloved teacher,
2. Body : The main message. This is where you write your wish, congratulation, or thank you.
o Example: "Happy Birthday! Wish you all the best."
3. Sender : The name of the person who sends the card.
o Example: From, Love, Your friend,
Sometimes, the Receiver and Sender are not written if the message is very short and clear.
