One Problem, One Solution – Designing a Startup Idea for My Local
Area
CLEANSTREAK
Reward-Based Waste Management System
Waste management is an important challenge faced by many cities and local
communities today. Irregular garbage disposal and lack of citizen participation
often lead to unclean surroundings and environmental pollution. While municipal
authorities work to maintain cleanliness, active involvement from citizens is
equally necessary.
This project follows the concept “One Problem, One Solution – Designing a
Startup Idea for My Local Area.” The aim is to identify a common problem in the
community and develop an innovative startup idea that can provide an effective
solution.
The startup proposed in this project is CleanStreak, a reward-based waste
management system designed to encourage responsible waste disposal. In this
system, citizens register on a mobile application and receive a QR code. When
garbage collectors collect waste, they scan the QR code and reward points are
credited to the user’s account. Users can maintain streaks by regularly giving
garbage and can later redeem their points for rewards such as coupons or
vouchers.
Through this idea, CleanStreak aims to motivate citizens to maintain cleanliness
while also promoting environmental awareness and responsible waste
management practices.
Introduction to Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is the process of identifying opportunities in society and
transforming them into innovative solutions that create value for people. It
involves the ability to think creatively, take calculated risks, organize resources,
and establish a business venture that satisfies the needs of customers.
Entrepreneurs play a crucial role in driving economic growth, technological
advancement, and social development.
In today’s rapidly changing world, entrepreneurship is not limited to starting
businesses for profit. Modern entrepreneurs also focus on solving social and
environmental problems through sustainable and innovative solutions. Many
successful startups are built on ideas that aim to improve people’s lives, protect
the environment, and promote community welfare.
One of the major challenges faced by urban areas today is waste management and
environmental cleanliness. Improper disposal of garbage leads to pollution, health
hazards, and poor living conditions. Although municipal authorities collect
garbage regularly, many households fail to maintain consistent waste disposal
habits. Lack of awareness, motivation, and monitoring often results in irregular
garbage disposal and poor waste segregation.
This project introduces a startup idea called CleanStreak, which aims to address
the problem of waste management through a reward-based digital system. The
idea is based on encouraging citizens to participate actively in maintaining
cleanliness by rewarding them with points whenever they properly dispose of
their garbage. These points can later be redeemed for vouchers, coupons, or other
exciting rewards.
The CleanStreak system integrates mobile technology with municipal waste
collection services. Each household can register on the application and receive a
unique QR code. When garbage collectors visit the household, they scan the QR
code to confirm waste collection. Users earn points for consistent participation,
and a streak system motivates them to maintain daily waste disposal habits.
By combining technology, behavioral motivation, and environmental
responsibility, CleanStreak encourages citizens to contribute towards a cleaner
and healthier society. The startup demonstrates how entrepreneurship can provide
practical solutions to real-world problems while also creating business
opportunities.
This project highlights the importance of innovation and creative thinking in
solving environmental issues and promoting sustainable urban living.
Definition of Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship refers to the process of creating, developing, and managing a
new business venture by identifying opportunities, organizing resources, and
taking calculated risks in order to generate value and profit. It involves the ability
of individuals to transform innovative ideas into practical solutions that satisfy the
needs and demands of society.
In simple terms, entrepreneurship is the act of starting and running a business by
introducing new products, services, or processes in the market. It requires
creativity, leadership, decision-making ability, and a willingness to face
uncertainty and challenges. Entrepreneurs play a significant role in driving
economic growth by introducing innovations that improve productivity and
efficiency.
Many economists and management experts have defined entrepreneurship in
different ways. According to economist Joseph Schumpeter, entrepreneurship is
the process of introducing innovation into the economy by creating new
combinations of resources, products, or methods of production. This innovation
helps bring change and development in the market. Similarly, Peter Drucker
described entrepreneurship as the practice of systematically searching for
opportunities and exploiting them to create value.
Entrepreneurship is not limited only to large businesses or corporations. It can
also involve small-scale ventures, social enterprises, and technology-based
startups. Many entrepreneurs today focus on solving real-life problems faced by
society. These entrepreneurs use innovative ideas and technology to create
solutions that improve the quality of life for people.
For example, the startup idea CleanStreak, presented in this project, is based on
the concept of entrepreneurship. It identifies a real-world problem—irregular
waste disposal and poor waste management—and proposes an innovative solution
using a reward-based digital platform. By encouraging citizens to dispose of
waste responsibly through incentives and a streak-based system, the idea
combines entrepreneurship with environmental sustainability.
Therefore, entrepreneurship can be understood as a dynamic and creative process
that not only generates economic benefits but also contributes to solving social
and environmental challenges. It encourages individuals to think innovatively,
take initiative, and create positive change in society.
Importance of Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship plays a vital role in the development and progress of a country.
It contributes significantly to economic growth, innovation, and job creation.
Entrepreneurs identify opportunities in the market and create new products,
services, or business models that fulfill the needs of people. Through their
innovative ideas and ventures, entrepreneurs help improve the overall standard of
living in society.
One of the most important contributions of entrepreneurship is employment
generation. When entrepreneurs start new businesses, they create job
opportunities for many people. This helps reduce unemployment and improves
the economic condition of individuals and families. Small and medium enterprises
started by entrepreneurs also support local economies by providing income and
livelihood to many people.
Entrepreneurship also promotes innovation and technological advancement.
Entrepreneurs constantly look for better ways to solve problems and improve
existing systems. By introducing new technologies, digital platforms, and creative
ideas, they help society move towards modernization and efficiency. Many
successful startups today are based on innovative solutions that address real-life
problems.
Another important benefit of entrepreneurship is economic development. New
businesses contribute to the country's economy by increasing production,
generating revenue, and contributing to taxes. This economic activity supports
infrastructure development, public services, and national progress.
Entrepreneurship also plays an important role in solving social and environmental
challenges. Many modern startups focus on sustainability, environmental
protection, and social welfare. Entrepreneurs design solutions that address issues
such as pollution, waste management, healthcare, education, and energy
conservation.
For example, the startup idea CleanStreak presented in this project aims to
improve waste management and promote environmental cleanliness. By
rewarding citizens for responsible garbage disposal, the system encourages
positive behavioral change and supports government initiatives such as
cleanliness drives and sustainable urban development.
Entrepreneurship also encourages self-reliance and independent thinking among
individuals. It motivates people to develop leadership skills, take initiative, and
create their own opportunities rather than depending solely on traditional
employment.
Therefore, entrepreneurship is an important driver of innovation, economic
growth, and social progress. It not only benefits entrepreneurs themselves but also
contributes to the overall development and well-being of society.
Definition of Entrepreneur
An entrepreneur is a person who identifies business opportunities, organizes
resources, and takes the initiative to start and manage a business venture with the
objective of earning profit and creating value for society. Entrepreneurs are
known for their ability to recognize problems or unmet needs in the market and
develop innovative solutions to address them.
Entrepreneurs play a crucial role in the economy because they bring new ideas,
products, and services into the market. They combine various factors of
production such as land, labor, capital, and technology to produce goods or
provide services that meet the needs of consumers. By doing so, they contribute to
economic development, job creation, and technological progress.
One of the most important characteristics of an entrepreneur is the willingness to
take calculated risks. Starting a new business involves uncertainty, financial
investment, and the possibility of failure. However, entrepreneurs are confident in
their ideas and are willing to take these risks in order to achieve success. Their
ability to make decisions, solve problems, and adapt to changing conditions helps
them overcome challenges in the business environment.
Entrepreneurs are also considered innovators and leaders. They introduce new
methods of production, adopt modern technologies, and create better systems that
improve efficiency and productivity. Through innovation and leadership,
entrepreneurs inspire others and create opportunities for growth and development.
Some common qualities of successful entrepreneurs include:
• Creativity and innovative thinking
• Leadership and management skills
• Risk-taking ability
• Strong determination and confidence
• Problem-solving skills
• Ability to identify opportunities
In the context of this project, the idea of CleanStreak reflects the mindset of an
entrepreneur. The entrepreneur identifies the problem of improper waste disposal
and designs a solution that uses technology and incentives to encourage
responsible behavior among citizens. By developing a reward-based waste
management platform, the entrepreneur not only creates a potential business
opportunity but also contributes to environmental sustainability.
Thus, an entrepreneur is not just a business owner but also a problem solver,
innovator, and change-maker who contributes to the progress of society.
Determinants of Entrepreneurship
The growth and development of entrepreneurship in any country depend on
several important factors known as the determinants of entrepreneurship. These
determinants influence the ability of individuals to start and successfully run new
business ventures. A favorable environment encourages people to become
entrepreneurs and introduce innovative ideas in the market.
One of the most important determinants is the economic environment. When a
country has strong economic conditions, better infrastructure, and access to
financial resources such as loans and investments, it becomes easier for
entrepreneurs to start businesses. Availability of markets, transportation facilities,
and modern technology also support entrepreneurial growth.
Another important determinant is the social environment. Society’s attitude
towards entrepreneurship plays a significant role in encouraging individuals to
start businesses. In societies where innovation, creativity, and independent
thinking are appreciated, more people are motivated to become entrepreneurs.
Education and awareness also help individuals develop entrepreneurial skills.
Government policies and support are also crucial determinants of
entrepreneurship. Governments promote entrepreneurship by introducing
schemes, subsidies, tax benefits, and financial assistance programs for startups
and small businesses. Initiatives such as the MSME schemes, Startup India, and
Skill Development programs encourage young entrepreneurs to develop new
business ideas.
Technological development is another major factor that influences
entrepreneurship. Advancements in digital technology, internet connectivity, and
mobile applications have created new opportunities for innovative startups.
Technology helps entrepreneurs develop efficient solutions, reach customers
easily, and manage their businesses effectively.
Finally, personal factors such as creativity, confidence, leadership skills, risk-
taking ability, and determination also play a vital role in entrepreneurship.
Individuals who possess these qualities are more likely to identify opportunities
and successfully establish their ventures.
In the case of the startup idea CleanStreak, several determinants support its
development. Technological advancement allows the creation of a mobile
application, government initiatives such as cleanliness campaigns support
environmental solutions, and increasing awareness about sustainability
encourages citizens to adopt responsible waste disposal habits.
Thus, the determinants of entrepreneurship create a supportive environment that
enables innovative ideas to grow into successful business ventures.
Definition of Creativity
Creativity refers to the ability to generate new, original, and useful ideas that can
help solve problems or improve existing systems. In the context of
entrepreneurship, creativity plays a very important role because it helps
individuals think differently and identify opportunities that others may not easily
notice. Creative thinking allows entrepreneurs to develop innovative products,
services, or business models that provide better solutions for society.
Creativity is not limited only to artistic fields; it is also an essential skill in
business and problem-solving. Entrepreneurs use creativity to analyze situations,
understand customer needs, and design unique solutions that stand out in the
market. A creative entrepreneur looks at common problems from a new
perspective and finds practical ways to address them.
Creative thinking also helps businesses remain competitive in a rapidly changing
environment. By continuously generating new ideas and improving existing
systems, entrepreneurs can adapt to market demands and technological
advancements. Creativity encourages experimentation and exploration, which
often leads to innovation and growth.
In this project, creativity is demonstrated through the idea of CleanStreak, which
applies a gamified reward system to encourage responsible waste disposal.
Instead of relying only on rules or penalties, the idea creatively motivates citizens
by offering points, streaks, and redeemable rewards for maintaining cleanliness.
This creative approach makes waste management more engaging and encourages
positive behavioral change in society.
Therefore, creativity is a key element of entrepreneurship that enables individuals
to transform ordinary ideas into innovative solutions that benefit both businesses
and communities.
Definition of Innovation
Innovation refers to the process of converting creative ideas into practical and
useful solutions that create value for society. It involves introducing new
products, services, technologies, or methods that improve efficiency, solve
problems, or satisfy customer needs in a better way. Innovation helps businesses
stay competitive and adapt to changing market conditions.
In entrepreneurship, innovation plays a key role because it allows entrepreneurs to
develop unique solutions that differentiate their businesses from others. Instead of
simply copying existing ideas, innovative entrepreneurs improve or transform
ideas to make them more effective and beneficial for people. Innovation may
involve developing a completely new product, improving an existing service, or
using technology in a new way to solve problems.
Innovation is also important for economic and social development. New ideas and
technologies help industries grow, create employment opportunities, and improve
the quality of life for people. Many successful startups are built on innovative
ideas that solve real-world challenges.
In the context of this project, the idea of CleanStreak represents innovation in
waste management. The concept uses a mobile application and a reward-based
system to encourage citizens to dispose of garbage regularly. By introducing
features such as QR code scanning, streak tracking, and reward points, the startup
creates a modern and engaging approach to maintaining cleanliness.
Thus, innovation transforms creative ideas into practical solutions that bring
positive change to society while also creating new business opportunities.
Process of Creativity
The process of creativity refers to the steps through which new ideas are
generated and transformed into practical solutions. In entrepreneurship, creativity
is not just about thinking of an idea but also about developing that idea in a
systematic way so that it can solve real problems effectively. The creative process
usually involves several stages that help individuals move from identifying a
problem to implementing a solution.
The first stage is problem identification. In this stage, entrepreneurs observe their
surroundings and recognize problems faced by people in everyday life.
Identifying a real problem is important because successful business ideas are
often built on solving existing issues in society. For example, irregular waste
disposal and poor waste management in cities is a common environmental
problem.
The second stage is idea generation. Once the problem is identified, different
ideas are developed to solve the problem. This stage involves brainstorming and
thinking creatively about possible solutions. Entrepreneurs analyze different
possibilities and explore innovative approaches that can make the solution
effective and practical.
The third stage is evaluation and selection of the best idea. During this stage, all
possible ideas are examined carefully to determine which one is the most feasible,
cost-effective, and beneficial. The entrepreneur considers factors such as
resources required, potential demand, and practicality before selecting the most
suitable idea.
The final stage is implementation, where the selected idea is converted into a real
product or service. This involves developing the system, organizing resources,
and launching the solution in the market.
In this project, the creative process led to the development of the CleanStreak
startup idea. The problem identified was poor waste disposal habits among
citizens. The creative solution was to introduce a reward-based system where
users earn points and maintain streaks for regularly giving garbage. This idea
encourages responsible behavior while also supporting environmental cleanliness.
Thus, the process of creativity helps entrepreneurs transform simple ideas into
practical innovations that can benefit society.
MSMEs Act
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Act was introduced by the
Government of India to support and promote small businesses and startups.
MSMEs play a very important role in the economic development of the country
by generating employment, encouraging innovation, and contributing to industrial
growth. The MSME sector is considered the backbone of the Indian economy
because it provides large-scale job opportunities with relatively small investment.
Under the MSME Act, businesses are classified into three categories based on
their investment and annual turnover: Micro Enterprises, Small Enterprises, and
Medium Enterprises. Micro enterprises are small-scale businesses that require
limited investment and are usually started by individuals or small groups. Small
and medium enterprises involve slightly larger investments and operations but
still fall under the MSME category.
The government provides various benefits and support to MSMEs in order to
encourage entrepreneurship. These benefits include financial assistance, low-
interest loans, subsidies, tax benefits, skill development programs, and easier
registration procedures. Programs such as Startup India and Make in India have
also been introduced to support new entrepreneurs and help them develop
innovative business ideas.
The startup idea proposed in this project, CleanStreak, can be categorized as a
Micro Enterprise under the MSME framework. Since the startup initially requires
limited investment and focuses on providing a digital service for waste
management, it can begin on a small scale and expand gradually as the number of
users and partnerships increase.
By operating under the MSME structure, startups like CleanStreak can benefit
from government support, financial schemes, and policy incentives that encourage
innovation and sustainable business development.
Description of the Startup Idea – CleanStreak
The startup idea proposed in this project is called CleanStreak, a reward-based
waste management system designed to encourage citizens to maintain proper
waste disposal habits. The idea combines mobile technology, digital tracking, and
incentives to promote environmental cleanliness and responsible waste
management.
CleanStreak works through a mobile application that can be integrated with
municipal waste collection services. Each household registers on the application
and receives a unique QR code linked to their account. When garbage collectors
visit the household in the morning to collect waste, they scan the QR code using a
mobile device. Once the code is scanned, the system records that the user has
disposed of their waste properly and credits reward points to their account.
A special feature of the system is the streak mechanism. If a household continues
to give garbage regularly for consecutive days, their streak increases. Maintaining
longer streaks results in additional reward points. This feature motivates users to
maintain consistency in their waste disposal habits.
The reward points earned by users can later be redeemed for various benefits,
such as discount coupons, shopping vouchers, or gift cards from partner brands.
This reward-based approach turns waste disposal into a positive and engaging
activity for citizens.
The CleanStreak system also helps municipal authorities monitor waste collection
more efficiently. Since each waste collection activity is recorded digitally,
authorities can track which areas are following proper waste disposal practices
and identify regions where improvements are needed.
Overall, CleanStreak is an innovative startup idea that combines technology and
behavioral motivation to solve the problem of improper waste disposal. By
encouraging citizens to participate actively in maintaining cleanliness, the system
contributes to a healthier environment and supports government initiatives for
better waste management.
Objectives of the Startup (CleanStreak)
The main objective of the CleanStreak startup is to encourage citizens to develop
responsible waste disposal habits and actively participate in maintaining a clean
and healthy environment. Proper waste management is an important challenge
faced by many cities, and the CleanStreak system aims to address this issue by
motivating people through a reward-based approach.
One of the primary objectives of the startup is to promote regular garbage
disposal among households. Many people neglect giving waste regularly, which
leads to accumulation of garbage in homes and surrounding areas. By introducing
a points and streak system, CleanStreak encourages users to consistently dispose
of their waste every day.
Another important objective is to support environmental sustainability. Proper
waste disposal and segregation help reduce pollution and improve hygiene in
cities. By motivating citizens to follow proper waste management practices, the
startup contributes to creating cleaner neighborhoods and healthier living
conditions.
The startup also aims to increase citizen participation in government cleanliness
initiatives. Programs such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan encourage people to
maintain cleanliness, but participation often remains limited. CleanStreak
provides a practical and engaging way for citizens to actively contribute to such
initiatives.
Additionally, CleanStreak aims to use technology to improve waste management
systems. By digitally recording garbage collection through QR code scanning, the
system allows municipal authorities to monitor waste disposal activities more
efficiently and identify areas that need improvement.
Finally, the startup seeks to create awareness about responsible waste
management and encourage positive behavioral change in society. By rewarding
responsible actions, CleanStreak transforms waste disposal from a routine task
into a motivating and rewarding activity for citizens.
Problems Identified
One of the first steps in entrepreneurship is identifying a real-life problem that
affects people and requires an effective solution. In many cities and towns, waste
management has become a serious challenge. Despite regular garbage collection
services provided by municipal authorities, several issues still exist in the current
system.
One major problem is irregular waste disposal by households. Many people do
not give their garbage regularly to collection workers. Sometimes they forget,
delay, or simply ignore proper disposal practices. As a result, garbage
accumulates in homes or is thrown in public places, leading to an unclean
environment.
Another important issue is the lack of motivation among citizens. Even though
people are aware of the importance of cleanliness, they often do not feel
personally responsible for maintaining it. Without proper incentives or
encouragement, many individuals do not actively participate in waste
management practices.
There is also a problem of poor waste segregation. Many households do not
separate dry and wet waste properly. When different types of waste are mixed
together, recycling becomes difficult and large amounts of garbage end up in
landfills. This increases environmental pollution and creates long-term
sustainability issues.
Additionally, municipal authorities face difficulties in monitoring waste collection
activities. There is often no proper system to track whether garbage is being
collected regularly from every household. Without accurate data, it becomes
challenging to manage waste collection efficiently and identify areas where
improvements are needed.
Another problem is lack of citizen engagement in cleanliness initiatives.
Government programs that promote cleanliness often depend on public
cooperation. However, without active participation from citizens, these initiatives
cannot achieve their full impact.
The startup idea CleanStreak addresses these problems by introducing a reward-
based system that motivates people to dispose of waste regularly and responsibly.
By encouraging citizens through incentives and digital tracking, the system aims
to improve waste management practices and create a cleaner environment.
Solutions
To address the problems related to improper waste disposal and lack of citizen
participation, the startup idea CleanStreak provides an innovative and practical
solution. The system is designed to motivate people to maintain proper waste
management habits through a reward-based digital platform.
The core solution offered by CleanStreak is the use of a mobile application
integrated with municipal waste collection services. Each household that registers
on the app receives a unique QR code linked to their account. When garbage
collectors visit the household to collect waste, they scan the QR code using their
mobile device. This confirms that the household has properly disposed of its
garbage.
Once the QR code is scanned, reward points are automatically credited to the
user’s account in the application. These points act as an incentive that encourages
users to continue following proper waste disposal practices.
An important feature of the system is the streak mechanism. If a user consistently
gives garbage every day or regularly participates in waste collection, their streak
increases. Maintaining a longer streak results in additional reward points and
bonuses. This gamified approach makes the process more engaging and
encourages users to maintain consistent behavior.
The points collected by users can be redeemed for exciting rewards, such as
discount coupons, shopping vouchers, grocery discounts, or gift cards from
partner brands like online shopping platforms or local stores. This reward system
motivates citizens to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness.
Another important solution provided by CleanStreak is digital monitoring of
waste collection activities. Since every garbage collection is recorded through QR
scanning, municipal authorities can easily track data related to waste disposal in
different areas. This helps them identify regions where waste management
practices need improvement.
By combining technology, incentives, and citizen participation, CleanStreak
offers an effective solution to improve waste management systems while
encouraging people to develop responsible environmental habits.
Components of the Startup
The CleanStreak startup consists of several important components that work
together to create an efficient reward-based waste management system. Each
component plays a specific role in ensuring that the system functions smoothly
and encourages citizen participation.
The first and most important component is the CleanStreak mobile application.
This application is used by citizens to register their households and track their
reward points and streaks. Each user receives a unique account through which
they can monitor their participation in waste disposal and check the rewards they
have earned.
Another important component is the QR code identification system. Every
registered household is provided with a unique QR code within the application.
This QR code acts as a digital identity for the user. When garbage collectors
arrive to collect waste, they scan the QR code using their device to record the
waste collection activity.
The third component is the garbage collector scanning system. Sanitation workers
are provided with a mobile device or application that allows them to scan the QR
codes of households. Once scanned, the system automatically updates the user’s
account and credits reward points.
The startup also includes a reward points management system. This system tracks
the number of points earned by each user based on their regular waste disposal
and streak maintenance. Users can accumulate these points over time and later
redeem them for rewards.
Another important component is the reward redemption system. Through
partnerships with brands, local stores, or online platforms, users can exchange
their earned points for coupons, discounts, or gift cards. This makes the system
more attractive and encourages continued participation.
Finally, the startup uses a data monitoring and management system. This system
stores and analyzes information related to waste collection activities. Municipal
authorities can use this data to monitor waste management efficiency, identify
problem areas, and improve collection services.
Together, these components create a complete and well-organized system that
encourages responsible waste disposal while improving the overall efficiency of
urban waste management.
Business Model
The business model of CleanStreak explains how the startup will operate,
generate revenue, and deliver value to its users and partners. CleanStreak follows
a partnership-based and service-oriented business model that benefits citizens,
government authorities, and brand partners.
The primary users of the CleanStreak platform are households and residential
societies who want to maintain proper waste disposal habits and earn rewards for
their participation. These users register on the mobile application and interact with
the system through QR code scanning and reward points.
One major source of revenue for CleanStreak is government partnerships.
Municipal corporations and city authorities are responsible for maintaining waste
management systems. CleanStreak can collaborate with these authorities by
providing a digital platform that improves monitoring of waste collection and
increases citizen participation. In return, the government may pay a service fee or
contract amount for using the platform.
Another important revenue source is brand partnerships and sponsorships.
Companies such as online shopping platforms, grocery stores, and local
businesses can provide discount coupons or gift vouchers as rewards for users.
These brands benefit from increased visibility and customer engagement, while
CleanStreak earns revenue through partnership agreements or promotional
collaborations.
CleanStreak can also generate income through advertisements within the
application. Brands can promote their products or services to users of the
platform, creating an additional source of revenue.
The business model also includes a data analytics component. The platform
collects valuable information about waste disposal habits and citizen participation.
Municipal authorities can use this data to improve waste management planning
and infrastructure.
Overall, the CleanStreak business model creates a win–win situation for all
stakeholders. Citizens receive rewards for maintaining cleanliness, municipal
authorities gain better monitoring tools, and brands gain opportunities for
promotion and customer engagement. This makes the startup both socially
beneficial and economically sustainable.
Marketing Strategy
For any startup to succeed, it is important to create awareness among people and
encourage them to use the product or service. The marketing strategy of
CleanStreak focuses on educating citizens about the importance of proper waste
disposal while also highlighting the benefits of earning rewards through the
application.
One of the primary marketing methods would be community awareness
campaigns. CleanStreak can organize cleanliness awareness drives in residential
colonies, apartment societies, and local communities. During these campaigns,
people can be informed about how the app works and how they can earn points by
regularly giving their garbage.
Another important strategy is collaboration with municipal corporations and local
authorities. When city governments promote the CleanStreak system along with
their waste management services, citizens are more likely to trust and adopt the
platform. Official announcements and government support can significantly
increase participation.
CleanStreak can also use digital marketing through social media platforms such as
Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp groups. Informative posts, short videos, and
user success stories can encourage more people to download and use the app.
Additionally, posters and banners in public places such as housing societies,
parks, markets, and community centers can help spread awareness about the
initiative. Simple messages explaining how users can earn rewards for responsible
waste disposal can attract attention.
Another effective strategy is referral programs and reward campaigns. Existing
users can receive additional points for inviting their friends, neighbors, or family
members to join the platform. This helps increase the user base through word-of-
mouth promotion.
Through these marketing strategies, CleanStreak aims to reach a large number of
households and encourage them to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness.
The focus of the marketing plan is not only promotion but also building
awareness about environmental responsibility and community participation.
Expected Challenges
Like any new startup, CleanStreak may face several challenges during its initial
stages. Identifying these challenges in advance helps entrepreneurs prepare
strategies to overcome them and ensure the successful implementation of the idea.
One possible challenge is lack of awareness among citizens. Many people may
not immediately understand the benefits of using the CleanStreak application or
may not be familiar with the concept of earning rewards for waste disposal. To
overcome this challenge, the startup will need to conduct awareness campaigns
and educate people about how the system works.
Another challenge is resistance to adopting new technology. Some users,
especially elderly individuals or people who are not comfortable with mobile
applications, may find it difficult to use the app. This can be addressed by
designing a simple and user-friendly interface and providing assistance through
community awareness programs.
Coordination with municipal authorities and sanitation workers can also be a
challenge. Since the system requires garbage collectors to scan QR codes during
waste collection, proper training and cooperation from sanitation staff will be
necessary. Without proper coordination, the system may not function effectively.
There may also be technical challenges such as application errors, connectivity
issues, or data management problems. To solve these issues, the startup will need
a reliable technical support system and regular maintenance of the platform.
Another possible challenge is managing reward distribution and brand
partnerships. The startup must ensure that rewards are distributed fairly and that
partnerships with brands remain sustainable.
Despite these challenges, proper planning, continuous improvement, and
collaboration with government authorities can help overcome these obstacles.
With the right strategies, CleanStreak has the potential to successfully promote
responsible waste disposal and contribute to a cleaner environment.
Possible Pie Chart
A pie chart is a graphical representation used to show how different parts
contribute to a whole. In a business project, pie charts are often used to explain
the distribution of costs, investments, or revenue sources. Including a pie chart in
the CleanStreak project will help visually explain how the startup allocates its
resources and manages its expenses.
For the CleanStreak startup, a pie chart can represent the distribution of initial
investment and operational expenses required to run the platform. Since the
startup is based on a mobile application and a reward system, a significant portion
of the budget will be used for technology development and maintenance.
The largest portion of the investment will go towards app development and
technical infrastructure, which includes designing the mobile application, creating
the QR code scanning system, and maintaining the digital database. This is
essential for the smooth functioning of the platform.
Another portion of the investment will be allocated for rewards and incentives.
Since the startup motivates users by offering points and redeemable rewards, it is
necessary to allocate funds or partnerships to support the reward system.
A portion of the budget will also be used for marketing and awareness campaigns.
These campaigns help inform citizens about the CleanStreak system and
encourage them to participate in responsible waste disposal practices.
Finally, a smaller portion of the investment will be used for operational and
administrative expenses, such as staff support, system maintenance, and
coordination with municipal authorities.
Example Pie Chart Distribution
You can draw the pie chart with the following distribution:
• App Development & Technology – 40%

What Makes This CleanStreak Unique
The CleanStreak startup stands out as a unique and innovative idea because it
combines technology, environmental responsibility, and behavioral motivation in
a single platform. Unlike traditional waste management systems that rely only on
rules or penalties, CleanStreak uses a reward-based approach to encourage
citizens to participate actively in maintaining cleanliness.
One of the most unique features of this startup is the streak and reward system. By
earning points and maintaining daily streaks for giving garbage regularly, users
feel motivated to continue responsible behavior. This gamified system makes
waste disposal more engaging and encourages long-term participation from
citizens.
Another unique aspect of CleanStreak is the integration of digital technology with
municipal waste collection services. The use of QR code scanning allows waste
collection activities to be recorded digitally. This helps municipal authorities track
garbage collection more accurately and improve their waste management systems.
The startup also creates value by building a collaboration between citizens,
government authorities, and private brands. Citizens benefit by earning rewards,
governments benefit from better waste management monitoring, and brands gain
promotional opportunities through reward partnerships.
CleanStreak also promotes environmental sustainability by encouraging people to
develop responsible waste disposal habits. When more citizens participate in
proper waste management, cities become cleaner and pollution levels decrease.
Because of its innovative concept, social impact, and practical implementation,
CleanStreak represents a modern startup idea that addresses a real-world problem
while creating benefits for multiple stakeholders.
Target Customers
The success of any startup depends on identifying the right group of customers
who will use the product or service. For the CleanStreak startup, the target
customers mainly include households and communities that regularly produce
household waste and are part of municipal waste collection systems.
The primary target customers are urban households and residential societies.
These include families living in apartments, housing societies, and residential
colonies where garbage is collected daily by municipal workers. These
households can register on the CleanStreak app and participate in the reward-
based system by giving their waste regularly.
Another important group of target customers includes apartment complexes and
gated communities. These communities often have organized waste collection
systems, making it easier to implement QR code scanning and reward tracking for
multiple households.
The startup also targets municipal corporations and local government authorities.
These organizations are responsible for managing waste collection services in
cities. By partnering with CleanStreak, they can use the digital platform to
monitor garbage collection activities and improve the efficiency of their waste
management systems.
Additionally, local businesses and brands can also be considered indirect
customers of the platform. These businesses can partner with CleanStreak to offer
discount coupons, vouchers, or promotional rewards to users, which helps them
attract more customers and increase brand visibility.
By targeting these groups, CleanStreak creates a system where citizens,
government authorities, and businesses all benefit from improved waste
management and community participation.
Financial Plan
The financial plan of a startup explains the estimated investment required to start
the business and the possible sources of revenue. It helps in understanding how
the startup will manage its expenses and generate income in the future.
For the CleanStreak startup, the initial investment will mainly be required for
developing the mobile application, setting up the digital infrastructure, marketing
the platform, and managing operational activities. Since the idea is based on
technology and partnerships, the major cost will be related to app development
and system maintenance.
The estimated initial investment for starting the CleanStreak platform can be as
follows:
• Mobile Application Development – ₹2,00,000
This includes designing the user interface, developing the QR code scanning
system, and building the reward points platform.
• Marketing and Awareness Campaigns – ₹50,000
This cost will be used for posters, digital promotion, and community awareness
programs.
• Operational Setup and Technical Support – ₹50,000
This includes server maintenance, system monitoring, and coordination with
municipal authorities.
Therefore, the total estimated initial investment required for the startup is
approximately ₹3,00,000.
CleanStreak can generate revenue through multiple sources. One major source of
revenue can be government or municipal contracts, where city authorities pay for
using the platform to improve waste management monitoring.
Another source of income is brand partnerships and sponsorships. Companies can
provide discount coupons or promotional rewards to users in exchange for brand
visibility within the application.
The platform can also generate revenue through advertisements and promotional
campaigns within the app. Brands can promote their products to users who
actively participate in the CleanStreak program.
With increasing user participation and partnerships, the CleanStreak startup has
strong potential for financial sustainability and long-term growth.
Conclusion
Entrepreneurship plays an important role in solving real-life problems by
introducing innovative ideas and practical solutions. Through this project, the
startup idea CleanStreak has been developed to address the problem of improper
waste disposal and lack of citizen participation in maintaining cleanliness.
The CleanStreak system uses a reward-based mobile application to motivate
citizens to dispose of their garbage regularly. By scanning QR codes during waste
collection, users earn points and maintain streaks that can later be redeemed for
exciting rewards such as coupons, vouchers, or gift cards. This system encourages
people to develop responsible waste disposal habits while also making the process
engaging and rewarding.
The startup not only benefits citizens but also helps municipal authorities improve
waste management monitoring through digital tracking. At the same time,
businesses and brands can collaborate with the platform to promote their products
through reward partnerships.
Overall, CleanStreak demonstrates how technology, creativity, and
entrepreneurship can be combined to create a solution that benefits society and the
environment. By encouraging community participation and promoting responsible
waste management practices, this startup idea has the potential to contribute
towards building cleaner cities and a healthier environment for future generations.
This project highlights the importance of innovative thinking in entrepreneurship
and shows how even simple ideas can create meaningful impact when they are
designed to solve real-world problems.
