Chapter Flow

* Natural Resources
* Types of Resources
* Pollution (Air, Water, Land)
* Effects of Pollution
* Saving Earth
* Forests – Our Lifeline
* Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Robert James Brown (1944– )

“The future will either be green or not at all.”

Natural Resources

Earth gives us:

* Air
* Water
* Soil
* Rocks
* Plants
* Animals
* Oil & minerals

👉 These useful things are called Natural Resources

Natural Resources

🎯 Say “Natural” or “Not Natural”

* Water
* Plastic
* Air
* Coal
* Tree
Types of Natural Resources

🌿 Renewable Resources

* Air
* Water
* Plants
* Animals
* Forests

✔ Can be used again and again

Non-Renewable Resources

* Coal
* Petrol
* Diesel
* Natural gas

✔ Cannot be replaced quickly

What is Crude Oil?

Crude oil is a thick black liquid found deep underground or

under the sea.

It formed from tiny sea plants and animals buried long ago.

From Crude Oil We Get:

* Petrol ⛽
* Diesel 🚛
* Kerosene
* Plastic items
What is Natural Gas?

Natural gas is a gas found deep underground.

Crude oil, natural gas and coal are fossil fuels.
Fossil Fuels

Millions of years ago:

* Plants 🌿 and animals 🦕 died

* They got buried deep inside Earth
* Heat changed them slowly

👉 These became Fossil Fuels

What is Pollution?

Pollution = Mixing harmful substances in:

* Air
* Water
* Land

👉 Harmful substances are called Pollutants

Air Pollution
Effects-
Causes:
* Breathing problems
* Heart diseases
* Vehicle smoke 🚗 * Global warming 🌡
* Factories 🏭 * Harm to plants & animals
* Burning coal
* Cutting trees
Activity 2 – Pollution Check

🎯 Good or Bad?

* Smoke from factory

* Planting trees
* Plastic in river
* Clean garden
Water Pollution

Causes:

* Dirty household water

* Factory waste
* Fertilizers

Effects-
* Diseases (diarrhoea, typhoid)
* Death of fish 🐟
* Dirty drinking water
* Soil damage
Land Pollution

Causes:

* Plastic waste
* Garbage dumping
* Chemicals in farming

Effects of Land Pollution

* Soil becomes infertile
* Plants do not grow
* Groundwater gets polluted
Activity 4 – Waste Sorting

Sort into:

🟢 Wet Waste
🔵 Dry Waste

Items:
* Vegetable peels
* Paper
* Plastic
* Food leftovers
Forests – Our Lifeline
Importance of Forests
Forests give us:

* Oxygen
* Prevent floods
* Food * Control soil erosion
* Medicines * Increase rainfall
* Timber * Support wildlife
* Shelter for animals
Activity 5 – Forest Actions

✔ Good or Bad?

* Cutting trees
* Planting trees
* Hunting animals
* Saving forests
