1. The points P and Q have coordinates (𝑎2 ; 2𝑎) and (3𝑎2 ; 6𝑎) respectively.
Find the values of 𝑎 for which the mid-point of PQ lies on the line 𝑦 = 2𝑥 − 8. [3]
2. It is given that 4𝑥 3 + 60𝑥 2 + 299𝑥 + 495 can be expressed in the form
𝐴(𝑥 + 𝐵)3 + 𝐶(𝑥 + 𝐵). Find the integers 𝐴, 𝐵 and 𝐶. [4]

6. Three consecutive terms of an arithmetic series are a, b and (3a + 4) respectively.
(a) Find an expression for b in terms of a. [2]
(b) Given also that a, b and (6a + 1) respectively are consecutive terms of a
geometric series and that a and b are integers, find the values of a and b. [4]
7. AB, CD and EF are arcs of concentric circles, centre O, such that
OACE and OBDF are straight lines as shown in the diagram. The
area of the shaded region CEFD is denoted by A1 and the area
of the shaded sector OAB by A2.
Given that OA = r cm, AC = 2 cm, OE = 8 cm and
AOB =𝜃 radians,
(a) find an expression for A1 in terms of r and 𝜃. [3]

11. The position vectors of the points 𝑃, 𝑄 and 𝑅 are

12. The polynomial 2𝑥 3 + ℎ𝑥 2 − 𝑘𝑥 + 12 where ℎ and 𝑘 are constants is denoted by
𝑓(𝑥). The result of differentiating 𝑓(𝑥) with respect to 𝑥 is denoted by 𝑓′(𝑥).
It is given that (𝑥 − 1) is a factor of 𝑓(𝑥) and when 𝑓′(𝑥) is divided by (𝑥 − 1)
the remainder is −5.
(a) Find the values of ℎ and 𝑘. [5]
(b) When ℎ and 𝑘 have these values in (𝑎), solve the equation 𝑓(𝑥) = 0. [4]

13. The line 𝑙 has equation 𝑦 = 2 𝑥 and the point 𝑃 has coordinates (5, 0). Find the
equation of the line through 𝑃 perpendicular to 𝑙. Hence find the coordinates of the
point 𝑁 which is the foot of the perpendicular from 𝑃 to 𝑙. [4]
By sketching a diagram showing 𝑙, 𝑃, 𝑁 and the origin 𝑂, find the coordinates of the
point 𝑄 which is the reflection of 𝑃 in 𝑙. [2]
By considering the gradients of 𝑙 and 𝑂𝑄, show that
