Susan sits on the sofa with a white cane
resting on the armrest. A glass of milk sits cold on the table.
Lighting: A single white spotlight shines directly on Susan.

SUSAN(monologue, suffering in silence) :It has been a year since that
fateful day. How long has it been since I last went outside ? My
goddess ,why is my fate so cruel? What crime have I committed? My
future, my youth... How could this happen to me?
(Suddenly, the door opens. Mark steps inside, walks over, and sits next to
Susan.)
MARK( delightful)Honey, I’m home!
(Mark touches her hands, his expression shifting to worry)
MARK(worried) : Oh dear, why are your hands so cold? How long have
you been sitting here like this?
(Mark helds Susan's hands, breathing on them to warm them up. He
glances at the table.)
MARK( worried) : Why is this glass of milk so cold? Let me go warm it up
for you.
(Mark starts to get up, but Susan reaches out and holds him back.)
SUSAN(sad) : Mark, leave it there. Please, just stay here with me.
(Mark looks at Susan tenderly and pulls her into a warm hug.)
MARK ( gently smile): Sweetie, is something bothering you?
(Susan nods her head slightly but remains silent.)
MARK(joking): Oh honey,don’ t you love me anymore?”
SUSAN( serious): If I do, what would you do?
MARK(astonished): Honey, what kind of joke is that? Even if you don't
need me anymore, I will still—
SUSAN( interrupting) : That is enough. I am sorry.
(Mark leans in and gently kisses Susan's forehead.)
MARK(smile) : Why are you apologizing to me?
SUSAN(hurting):Mark, you will always be a good husband, but I am not a
good wife. It’s been a year now. I can’t just stay at home and live off you
forever.
MARK( caring) : Susan, listen to me. Did someone say something to you?
Did you hear gossip? I will handle it.
SUSAN( denied): No, nobody said anything. I just realized it myself.
MARK( caring ): My sweetie, how much more do I need to prove my love
to you? You are an apple of my eye .In the past,right now, and even in the
future. As long as you still need me, I will always be right here.
(Susan squeezes Mark's hands tightly.)
SUSAN( hesitant)Mark... I want to go back to work.
MARK(delightful)Susan. Really? Finally! When do you want to start? We
can commute together.
MARK(aside ) Finally, it's working. That training is paying off. Thank
goodness!
SUSAN(hurting)No, Mark. I want to go by myself.
MARK( worried ) : By bus? Can you handle that? It’s too dangerous. I can
easily wake up earlier so we can travel together.
SUSAN( bursts into tears)No, I am blind! How can I get there on my own?
I am not a normal person . I am just a blind woman!
(Mark's heart breaks into pieces upon hearing her words.)
MARK(hurting,anxious)No, honey,my apologise. I shouldn't have said
something so cruel to you. Please, you can blame me, but do not hurt
yourself.
SUSAN(soliloquy )
No, I'm blind. I'm blind! How can I possibly go outside alone? I can't do it.I
will fall... But I can't keep depending on Mark forever. Why I’m so useless?
(Mark pulls Susan into a tight, desperate embrace, holding her hands
firmly.)
MARK( caring): Susan, please listen to me. I am your husband. I am the
person who loves you more than anyone in this world. No matter what
happens, I love you for exactly who you are. I promise you, I will help you
find a way to go back to work safely. So please, don't cry. You will always
have me standing right behind you.
Semantic devices
Metaphor:
Mark : You are an apple of my eye.
He means Susan is his love and he can do anything for her.
Hyperbole :
Susan : “Oh my God, why is my fate so cruel? What crime have I

Susan feels like she is the Heaven ‘ s enemy as her is accidentally blind
although she has a glorious life before.
Contrast:

The two opposite phases are put together to express Susan ‘s thought
that she feels she is blind and can do anything to help Mark,while he loves

He believes Susan wants to go back to work because she feels confident
