It is hereby notified for the information of all concerned that under orders of the Hon'blc
Vice-Chancellor, following resolutions of the Equivalence Committee, C.U. have been
adopted and put into implementation w.e.f. 19.02.2026, as mentioned hereinunder:
Policies for Equivalence Clearance
1. The subject of Communicative English (CEN2/ENG2) in the (X+2) Level Higher
Secondary (Vocational) Examination conducted by West Bengal State Council of
Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development shall be treated as Equivalent
to English (ENGA/ENGB) as a Language subject in the Higher Secondary Level.
Therefore, students passing out from WBSCT&VE will not have to submit any
Equivalence Certificate for admission under C.U.
2. Students passing out in regular mode from different West Bengal State-aided Universities
and willing to prosecute higher studies in the University of Calcutta will not have to
submit any Equivalence Certificate for their University Degrees. However, in case of any
Degree obtained from a West Bengal State-aided University, which is not similar to any
corresponding Degree awarded by C.U., candidates need to apply for Equivalence
Clearance to obtain their Equivalence Certificate before admission into any course
under C.U.
3. Students passing from different West Bengal Private Universities or all Universities
outside the State of West Bengal will have to submit Equivalence Certificate for
admission, and if Degrees are not equivalent, their admission will be cancelled.
4. Degrees at UG and PG level under CBCS (Regular Mode) obtained from different UGC
recognized West Bengal Private Universities or all Universities outside the State of West
Bengal shall be treated as equivalent to the corresponding UG and PG Degrees under
CBCS awarded by C.U. However, candidates having such Degrees need to obtain their
Equivalence Certificate before admission into any course under C.U.

5. Degrees done under CCF (Regular Mode) from different UGC-recognized West Bengal
Private [Link] or all Universities outside the State of West Bengal with a minimum
credit of 120 (for 3-year UG Courses) and 160 lfor 4-year UG Courses (Hons./Hons.
with Research)] respectively shall be treated as equivalent to the corresponding Degrees
under CCF awarded by C.U. (As per NEP 2020 prescribed minimum credit
requirements). Candidates having such Degree need to obtain their Equivalence
Certificate from C.U. before admission into any course under C.U.
6. For Degrees obtained under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Mode from UGC
recognized Higher Educational Institutions, alongwith the abovementioned Regulations
(i.e. Pt. No. 4 and 5) Territorial Jurisdiction Rule of the Concerned University will also be
considered to determine equivalency of the said Degree by C.U. Therefore, candidates
having such Degrees need to obtain their Equivalence Certificate from C.U. before
admission into any course under C.U.
7. Ph.D. candidates in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) with [Link]. or
equivalent as the qualifying Degree, need to have minimum 68 credit points as AICTE
model curriculum for the respective [Link]. program. Candidates having such Degree
need to obtain their Equivalence Certificate from C.U. before admission under C.U.
8. International candidates need to submit Equivalence Certificate issued by UGC
(granting equivalence to their respective qualifications obtained from foreign educational
institutions), alongwith other requisite educational documents, to the Equivalence Section
of C.U. to obtain their Equivalence Certificate before admission into any course under
C.U.
9. In case of any Degree obtained from a UGC-recognized University/HE!, which is not
similar to any corresponding Degree awarded by C.U., the matter will be referred to the
Equivalence Committee of C. U. for determination of equivalency.
10. For admission of students under Law Stream under C.U., this University will follow the
Rules and Regulations of the Bar Council of India to determine equivalency of the course
done by the concerned candidate. Therefore, candidates need to obtain their Equivalence
Certificate from C.U. before admission into Law Stream under C.U.
Concerned Admission Office/Institutions under C.U. are requested to take note of the above
and act accordingly.
