1. What are the activities conducted for the particular day/meeting?
WEEK 1
First, on Monday, when we arrived, there were a lot of fallen leaves
from the shedding mahogany trees located near the garden. The leaves were
scattered throughout the area, covering the soil and plants. Therefore, we
planned to clear the area by removing the fallen and wilted leaves. We
divided our team into morning and afternoon groups to delegate the tasks.
Next, on Tuesday, we continued removing leaves and watered the
plants. On Wednesday, we conducted the same activities. However, to easily
reach and remove the fallen leaves in the far corner, we came up with the
idea to create a DIY leaf picker using bamboo sticks and alambre wire.
Then, on Thursday, the area started to improve. The area had
noticeably fewer leaves compared to our first day. Throughout the day, we
continued our routine by removing leaves, sweeping the area, and watering
the plants.
Lastly, on Friday, we started planting pechay seeds in a seedling tray
before transferring them to the soil next week. Additionally, we maintained
the cleanliness of the garden by removing fallen leaves and wild grass or
weeds that were pestering the plants. Before ending the day, we watered the
plants to prevent dehydration.

On the first to fourth day, the garden needs proper care and cleaning

5. What is the most significant learning/insight of the group from
today’s experience?
In our first week, we encountered difficulties that delayed our
proposed activities. From this experience, we learned that community work
requires flexibility, teamwork, and resourcefulness rather than strictly
following initial plans.
We also realized that actual fieldwork is very different from the written
proposal due to unexpected challenges in scheduling, materials, and task
execution. Overcoming these difficulties showed us that urban gardening
programs are not only about planting and harvesting, but also about
adapting to real community situations, communicating effectively with the
barangay, managing time properly, and finding practical solutions.
6. Recommendations:
For Future PLPasig NSTP Students
● In choosing an NSTP project, students should have basic knowledge of
the tasks they will perform. If unfamiliar with the work, prior research
is recommended to improve effectiveness and program success.
Future NSTP programs should also be planned with greater flexibility
and proper coordination with barangay personnel and residents.
Additionally, students should fully participate in community immersion
with eagerness and commitment.
For Barangay Personnel, Caretakers, and Residents

community-based projects such as urban gardening and clean-up

1. What are the activities conducted for the particular day/meeting?
WEEK 2
During the first week of implementation, we were introduced to the
sweepers assigned to the garden and immediately began our activities. On
Monday, we planted seeds in seedling trays while others were tasked to
sweep the area, collect fallen leaves, and water the plants.
On Tuesday, the seeds had already sprouted, so we transferred them
into larger containers and DIY plastic bottle pots. To avoid damaging the
young plants while watering, we created a DIY watering can using plastic
bottles with small holes on the cap for gentler water flow.
By Wednesday, we continued planting and transferring sprouts while
using newly acquired gloves for protection. We also prepared additional
plastic bottle pots by filling them with soil, and we maintained the garden by
sweeping, removing weeds, and watering the plants.
Finally, on Thursday, we completed the transfer of the remaining
sprouts, continued maintaining the cleanliness of the area, and watered the
plants. As most of the garden tasks were already accomplished, we also
extended our efforts to cleaning the playground beside the garden.

5. What is the most significant learning/insight of the group from
today’s experience?
Successful urban gardening requires more than just a plan; it needs
adaptability, responsibility, and teamwork in overcoming challenges in the
Afable Garden. The experience taught the group to adjust based on garden
conditions, weather, schedules, and access availability while balancing
academic and personal responsibilities.
Resourcefulness was also developed through the 3Rs by improvising
tools using materials like bamboo sticks, alambre wire, and plastic
containers. Through teamwork and task delegation, the group improved
collaboration, time management, and versatility in handling various
gardening duties.
Overall, the experience highlighted the importance of discipline,
patience, and cooperation in achieving a successful community-based
project.
6. Recommendations:
For Future PLPasig NSTP Students
● Future NSTP students are encouraged to plan activities with flexibility,
proper preparation, and readiness to adjust based on school events,
holidays, and weather conditions. They should implement a set-by-set
work rotation to manage extreme heat and limited space, allowing rest
periods to prevent fatigue while maintaining productivity.
For Barangay Personnel, Caretakers, and Residents
● Barangay personnel are encouraged to coordinate properly with NSTP
students regarding garden access to avoid delays in the
implementation of activities. They should also continue providing
guidance and support during the program to ensure smooth execution
of tasks. In addition, maintaining the cleanliness and proper use of the
multipurpose area for student rest and coordination will help create a
more organized and productive working environment.

today’s experience?
Finishing the NSTP immersion, we learned that community service is
more than a requirement; it is about building character as stewards of the
community, strengthening commitment to goals, and working in
collaboration not only within the group but also with the people in the area.
Working in a real-life setting also improved our social skills and taught
us that plans do not always go as expected, making initiative and creativity
essential. We learned to be resourceful by finding ways to innovate and
improvise so we could continue serving the community despite challenges.
We also realized that the success of the project depends on the
relationships built with others, especially with barangay officials and the
people involved in the Afable Garden. Their support and our cooperation
helped make the project more meaningful and sustainable as we continued
to respond to the needs of the garden.
6. Recommendations:
For Future PLPasig NSTP Students

eagerness and commitment. They are encouraged to plan flexible
programs to address unexpected challenges and to gain sufficient
knowledge about their chosen project for better implementation.
Strong communication skills are also important when coordinating
with barangay personnel, residents, and other stakeholders.
