INTRODUCTION
TO
MICROCONTROLLERS
WHAT IS A
MICROCONTROLLER?
A microcontroller is a small
computer on a single chip that can
control devices and perform tasks
automatically.
FUNCTIONS
A microcontroller:
Receives input
Processes information
Gives output
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLES
Remote control Traffic Lights Washing Machine
WHY DO WE NEED MICROCONTROLLERS?
We need microcontrollers because they:
Make devices automatic
Reduce human effort
Make systems faster and more accurate
Allow devices to think and respond to situations
WHAT IS
ARDUINO?
Arduino is an open-source
electronics platform that uses
a microcontroller and is easy
to program.

TYPES OF ARDUINO BOARDS
THE PARTS OF THE BOARD

KNOW YOUR
TOOLS
BREADBOARD
A board on which you can build electronic circuits. It’s like a patch
panel, with rows of holes that allow you to connect wires and
components together.
JUMPING WIRES
Use these to connect components to each other on the
breadboard, and to the board.
LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED)
A type of diode that illuminates when electricity passes through it
Like all diodes, electricity only flows in one direction through
these components..
PUSHBUTTONS
Momentary switches that close a circuit when pressed. They snap
into breadboards easily.
RESISTORS
Resist the flow of electrical energy in a circuit, changing the
voltage and current as a result. Resistor values are measured in
ohms (represented by the Greek omega character: Ω).
USB CABLE
This allows you to connect your board to your personal computer
for programming. It also provides power to the Arduino for most
of the projects in the kit.
