Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering EEE/ECE 302/301LL: Digital
Electronics/Digital Logic Design Open Ended Project/Assignment
Fall 2025
Marks 200
The city’s small community bank wants a new safe that works completely with digital logic. The
bank manager explains the problem to your class:
“We need a safe that only opens when all conditions are correct. Can you design the logic behind
it?”
What the Safe Must Do
1. Open with the correct 4–6 digit code
The keypad sends the digits to a circuit that checks if the code matches the stored code.
2. Only open during a set time window
Even the correct code won’t open the safe unless it’s the allowed time (for example,
between 8 AM and 4 PM).
3. Count wrong attempts
Every wrong code increases a “tamper counter.”
4. Lock itself after too many mistakes
After a certain number of wrong tries (like 3), the safe goes into “lockdown” and won’t
accept any more input.
The bank is counting on your simple but reliable digital design to keep their valuables safe. If
your logic works, they will build the real safe using your design.
You can design this system using digital electronics: logic gates, encoders/decoders,
comparators, counters, and timing logic.
Your design should include:
You can assign:
✔ System Requirements
✔ Logic design (Gates, Counter, Comparator)
✔ K-maps for components
✔ Proteus simulation
✔ Hardware prototype demonstration
You have to submit a detailed report and present your project.
