02. Materials Used
Selection and quality control of core construction materials.
Core Construction Materials
Cement
JK Laxmi PPC: Portland
Pozzolana Cement(53 grade)
used for concrete and
plastering. Checked for grey
color and powder form
Sand
Natural Grading: Sourced
from near Nareshwar
river basin (Bharuch).
Free from organic silt,
ensuring strong mortar
bonding.
Aggregates
10mm & 20mm: Sourced
from Chikhali. 20mm for
strength in structural
member; 10mm for grading
and workability
Reinforcement
German 550 TMT Bars:
8mm/10mm: Used for stirrups
and slab distribution,
12mm/16mm: Main
reinforcement in beams and
slabs. 20mm/25mm: Primary
bars for columns and heavy
foundations.

Construction Process of main structural component(slab, column & beam)
Construction of Column
Column Reinforcement
✓ For it the grade of steel
reinforcement is Fe500 is use.
✓ Lapping = 50 x dia. of bar
Column starter
✓ This provided before
formwork of column
✓ It is height must be 10 cm
Column shuttering
✓ Shuttering used filling concrete in
structural member
✓ The inside surface is coated with a bond
breaker ( oil ) to keep the concrete from
stick
✓ Provide cover 40mm
Column Casting & Curing
✓ Fill the concrete from concrete mixer
machine M25 grade
✓ Casting time use vibrator
✓ After 24 hours De-Shuttering
✓ Curig for 7 days
Column Bar schedule and Material Calculation
✓ C1= 0.35m x 0.70m x 3.05m = 0.80 cu.m.
✓ Dry volume = 1.54 cu.m.
✓ Mixing ratio = 1: 1 :2
✓ Water/cement ratio = 0.4
✓ Volume of material = ( dry volume x
total volume)/summation ratio
✓ Weight of material = material volume x dry
density of material
✓ Volume of cement = 0.308 cu.m.
Weight of cement = 0.308 x 1440 = 443.86 kg
✓ Volume of sand = 0.308 cu.m.
Weight of sand = 0.308 x 1600 = 492.8 kg
✓ Volume of aggregate= 0.616 cu.m.
Weight of aggregate = 0.616 x 1700 = 1047 kg
Design of stair case
Calculation
✓ Slab height top to top height = 3150 mm
✓ Riser height =150 mm
✓ Tread size = 300 mm
✓ No. Of tread = slab height / riser height
= 3150 / 150 = 22 no.
✓ No. of riser = no. of tread – 1 = 22 – 1 =
21 no.
Construction Process Beam and Slab
Form work for Beam and Slab
✓ Column cap(Topi)
✓ Hight of slab is 11’ given in plan.
✓ After column formwork removed the
one level is marked. The same level is
marked every other column.
✓ After the level marked the hight of
column cap is calculated form that
level.
✓ After from work completed oiling is
done. Concrete cover for Slab and for
Beam 30mm provided.
✓ The level marking on column is
5’ ,Slab hight is 11’.
✓ So the remaining hight for
Column cap from marking level
on column is
✓ 11’-5’=6’ (6*11=66”)
✓ The Slab thickness is 5”.The
thickness of shuttering is
2”.Consider beam thickness 24”.
✓ Beam bottom level
= 66” – 24”
= 42”
✓ Column cap level=42”-2”= 40”
Calculation for slab
✓ Slab size = 3.5m x 3.5m ( span 150mm c/c
and dia. of bar 10mm)
✓ No. of bars = (length/spacing) + 1
=(3500/150) + 1
=24 bars
✓ Bars in one direction = 24
✓ Bars in other direction = 24
✓ Total steel length = 48 x length of bar(3.5)
=168 m
✓ Steel weight = (d^2)/162
=100/162 = 0.617 kg
✓ Total weight of steel = 168 x 0.617
= 103.66 kg
✓ Reinforcement Mesh: Main bars and
distribution bars laid out according to
the structural design drawings.
✓ Conduit Layout: PVC pipelines for
electrical circuits and plumbing
cutouts installed before casting.
✓ Slab Pouring: Continuous concrete
supply utilizing a lifting hopper bucket
system and do vibrating properly
other wise honeycombing issue is
generated.
✓ Slab curing: The concrete surface
divided into small ponds, and these
ponds are filled with water
continuously for 14 days.
Brick Masonry Work
✓ bricks of size: 23 cm × 10 cm × 8 cm
were used for masonry work.
✓ Before used of brick sprinkling over
their because we not do that laying
time use motar that not do proper
hydration so bonding not do properly
and not gain strength.
✓ Site condition : Before the start brick
masonry work clean the site. In this
construction Stretcher bod was used.
✓ Layout and marking: Mark out all wall
boundaries and pillar location using
measuring tape.
✓ First layer make: Spread a motar
bed and fix the brick and check with
plumb bob , ensuring line is
perfectly straight.
✓ Coping: It is provide for long span of
wall gain strength. Protective
capping placed in brick masonry.
✓ Curing: Spray the finished wall with
water daily for about 7 days to let
the motar fully cure and harden.
Conclusion
✓ During the internship, I learned how to effectively apply theoretical
knowledge to practical site work.
✓ I gained experience in communicating with assistant engineers, site
supervisors, and labour.
✓ I understood the importance of practical knowledge in civil
engineering projects.
✓ I developed basic skills in planning, scheduling, and controlling
construction activities.
✓ I improved my understanding of on-site problem-solving and
decision-making.
✓ I learned proper construction practices followed at site.
