Lesson Plan for Young Learner (3years)

Name of the teacher: Bhuvaneshwari K Date: 13-05-2026

Age Group: 3years Number of students: 10

Name of the activity: Construction of Pink Material Used: 10 wooden

Tower cubes of 3 dimension in
pink colour, Wooden stand
were all the cubes are
placed in a tower shape.

How it is going to benefit the child: Pink tower is introduced to a child

within the age group of 2.5 to 3.5 years. It is a multipurpose activity.

The pink tower introduces the child with the concept of 3 dimension shape
leading to the understanding of size and shape in our environment.

The pink tower helps in development of Fine Motor skills, cognitive skills
and helps in the development of hand and eye coordination.

It is also an important sensory activity, which helps them to refine their

sense by touch and feel of the materials.

Control of Error is a most significant emotion, which is developed in a child

where the child develops the ability to learn from the mistake when
arranging the tower and tries to correct it without any interruption from
the teachers.

Helps in development of vocabulary, example learning of big, bigger and

biggest and small smaller and smallest etc

Introduction to Abstract concept of mathematics (Dimension)

Presentation:

Invite the child: We Invite the child to the activity we are going to perform.

Demonstrate: A Montessori teacher need to demonstrate the procedure

of Construction of Pink Tower systematically so that the child can perform
the same or neither the less.

Procedure:

Roll out the mat at the workstation.

Inviting the child to the sensorial area and introduce them to pink tower.

With the help of our fingers and hand, we pick the top smallest cube and
place it on the mat.

Repeating the same procedure to hold and pick the rest of the cubes and
arrange them randomly on the mat.

We sit on the child’s dominant side.

We begin to contract the pink tower.

With the help of our tip of the fingers of both hand, we pick the biggest
cube.

We stop and pause time to time and choose the next smallest cube and
choose the appropriate next cube.

Repeat this procedure until we choose the last smallest cube. Hence, a
pink tower is constructed. We Check and correct the errors and check for
the correct for the arrangement of shape and size.

Randomize the cubes again and offer the child a turn to do the steps.
Recapsulation:

We can Use the concept of Three-period lesson of Naming, Recognising

and Recall.

We can add this concept for the recapsulation of the activity performed in
Montessori classroom.

This is a well-developed Montessori activity plan that shows a clear

understanding of sensorial learning and early childhood development.
The description of the Pink Tower activity is accurate and appropriately
aligned with the developmental needs of children aged 2.5–3.5 years. A
major strength is the strong explanation of the educational benefits,
especially the development of fine motor skills, visual discrimination,
hand-eye coordination, vocabulary building, and early mathematical
thinking. The inclusion of control of error is particularly effective and
reflects a good understanding of Montessori principles, as it encourages
independent learning and self-correction without teacher intervention.
The step-by-step presentation is detailed and demonstrates awareness
of correct Montessori demonstration technique, including invitation,
modelling, and allowing the child to repeat the activity.

understanding of Montessori
principles and classroom practice.
The explanation of the Pink Tower
lesson demonstrates good
awareness of sensorial education,
especially visual discrimination,
control of error, and child
independence. A major strength is
the clear reference to the
Montessori work cycle and the
careful attention to presentation
techniques such as invitation, silent
demonstration, and positioning

philosophy.
Teaching practice material compilation/Evaluation

1. Choose any one of the lesson that you are taught during the course.
Describe the lesson Objective, skills and age
Ans: The Pink Tower
Lesson: Introduction to Pink Tower (Sensorial Area)
Objective: To enhance development of the child to refine their ability to see
differences in three- dimensional size. By building the tower from largest
cube to smallest, the child learn to perceive the concept of big and small
through physical touch and sight.
Indirectly it is a long-term Mathematical development were in the child is
introduced to the decimal system. Since there are, 10 cubes in pink tower
the child subconsciously absorb the decimal system.
Moving the cubes require a specific grip which indirectly strengthens the
three-finger grip needed for holding a pencil later which perhaps prepare
them for writing.
Finally, this lesson teaches the child to follow a logical step-by-step process
and leads to follow the order or sequence. They learn to arrange things
according to the order or sequence.
Skills: Refinement of the visual senses, It helps is the vast development of
Gross motor skills (carrying the cubes to the Mat) and Fine motor
coordination (stacking them precisely in the centre).
It enhances the development of cognitive skills, which helps to build the
ability to compare, judge, categorize objects based on the physical
properties.
Age: 2.5 to 3.5 years
Why: At this age the child is in a sensitive period for the order and sensory
refinement. The development of brain is fast within the first 5years. They
are naturally driven to categorize the world around them. They are like
sponge, absorb thigs easily, and learn fast.
2. What materials and aide did you use? Why did you choose this?
Ans: The Material List
The Pink Tower: A set of 10 solid wood cubes finished in a uniform pink
colour, they range from size 1cm3 (smallest) to 10cm3 (largest).
A floor mat: A neutral coloured rug to define a workspace.

I choose these materials because they include three core Montessori

principles.
 Isolation of a Single Quality: In Montessori pedagogy, we want the child
to focus on one concept at a time. The cubes are all the same colour,
texture, shape the only thing that changed is the size.
If the cubes were in different colours, the child might stack them based
on the pretty colour it got attracted rather than focusing on the
mathematical dimension.

 Workspace definition (Use of a Floor Mat): It provides a clear physical

boundary for the activity. This helps the child develop a sense of order
and protect their work from being stepped on others. It also defines the
beginning and end of the work cycle.

 Control of Error: This material has a high control of Error concept. If the
cubes are stacked out of order, the tower looks physically off balance or
will literally fall over. This allows the children learn through their own
observation rather than waiting for a teacher to tell them, they are
wrong.

3. How effective they were in practice? Would you change anything in

those materials ?
Ans: The materials were highly effective due to the Control of Error
Self Correction: During the practice the child initially placed a large cube
toward the top of the tower. Because the materials is physically weighted
and dimensionally consistent, the tower become unstable and uneven. So
the child will learn from the error caused and they will themselves take
initiative to correct the error.
Internal Success: Instead of the teacher intervening the error caused, the
child itself notice the unstable or uneven tower and start again from
beginning. This proved that the material is effective because it allows the
child to choose self-initiative and discovery of another way to correct it
without external correction, which builds confidence and independent
thinking.
Reflections that can be changed in that materials.
Since the pink tower is in the light pink colour, I can make the children sit on
the darker colour mat or dark contrast colour mat so that the pink tower is
clearly visible. I would also like to get a spare of the smallest cube of the
pink tower because that is the one which gets misplaced or goes missing
very often.

4. How might these materials be applied for future lesson ?

Ans: The pink tower is not just a stacking toy, it is a foundational tool that
transitions child from simple to abstract concept.
Mathematics: The most significant future application is preparation for the
Decimal system. The 10 cubes represent the base 10 system, This lesson will
prepare the child for future to learn the Thousand Cube in the bank game.
Later in the Montessori curriculum the child will work on binomial and
trinomial cubes. The pink tower has already prepared their hand and eye
coordination and understand how smaller cube fits together to become a large
whole.
Language development or Vocabulary: If we used this for Three period lesson
in language (1: This is, 2: Show me, 3: What is).
Teaching the child comparative language (Large, larger, largest or Small smaller
smallest, Big, bigger, biggest etc.)
Development of will and concentration: As the child masters Pink Tower they
develop Discipline required for more complex practical life and culture lesson.
It sets a standards for how to handle materials with care, how to respect each
one workspace and most importantly complete the task from start to finish.
This also will develop the concentration of the child to until work given is
completed.
This is a very strong and conceptually rich teaching practice write-up that
shows a clear understanding of Montessori philosophy, especially the Pink
Tower sensorial material. The explanation of the lesson objective is well-
developed and demonstrates good insight into visual discrimination, size
gradation, and indirect preparation for later mathematical learning. A key
strength is the way you connect sensorial work to broader developmental
outcomes such as fine motor control, concentration, logical sequencing, and
early mathematical thinking. The inclusion of Montessori principles like
isolation of quality, control of error, and work cycle shows solid theoretical
grounding and applied understanding. Your discussion on materials and
their purpose is particularly strong, especially the explanation of why
uniform colour supports focused learning. GRADE- A+
