Chapter 1 Question

The document discusses various communication methods such as email, calls, SMS, and online messaging. It compares RAM and ROM, highlighting their differences in volatility and data retention. Additionally, it explains the two types of user interfaces: CLI, which is command-based and suited for professionals, and GUI, which is user-friendly and relies on visual elements like icons and pointers.

She can send an email using WIfi or 3G/4G/5G.

She can call her through one of mobile operators

She can send SMS using Sim Card.

She can send online messages via applications such as Messenger, Viber, etc
-RAM can be read and written whereas ROM can only be read.
-RAM is volatile memory whereas ROM is non-volatile memory.
-Data is lost when the computer is turned off in RAM, whereas data is not lost even when the computer is turned off in ROM
-ROM has boot file whereas RAM stores the current instructions.
Spare parts are more standardized and cheaper.

An icon is a representation of a certain program. It is also a symbol. An icon is used to

help users understand easily what they’re looking for. For example, in most devices,
the setting icon is usually a cog shape. This helps users know they can configure
setting in “settings”.

-Using a pointer controlled by a mouse to select the icon.

There are two types of user interfaces, namely, CLI and GUI. In CLI interface, the user has to type
in sets of instructions to carry out different operations, for example, saving a file, loading a file, etc.
Therefore, to key in the data needed to carry out certain tasks, input devices such as keyboard is
needed. Even though the process may seem hard for amateurs, CLI is very useful for professionals
like computer scientists, programmers, technicians, etc since the user isn’t restricted to
predetermined options.
In GUI, the users may have at least an OS installed on their computers. Linux, MacOS and
Windows are among the most popular OS in the world. Such OS grants GUIs which are easy and
appealing for users to navigate through the computer. We can navigate through our computer in
GUI with input devices such as mouse, keyboard, tracker ball, trackpad(touchpad) , wireless game
controllers, and so on. These devices ease the work of navigation and controlling the computer.
Since GUI is also known as WIMP interface, it uses windows, icons, menus, and pointer. WIndows
are provided space for the program to display information. Icons are symbols which represent the
files so that the user can easily understand and navigate quickly. Menus are a list of options a user
can configure. Pointer is a arrow-shaped navigator to access, select, and open files and programs.
CLI
-Most commonly used by professionals such as technicians, programmers,
computer scientists, etc
-Often used with keyboard since the user has to key in a set of instructions to
perform various operations.
-Does not need much RAM and Storage to run.
-May be difficult for amateurs
-The user is in direct communication with the computer.
-Possible to alter configurations setting which isn’t possible in GUI.

GUI
-User-friendly; good for end-users
-A pointer device is often used to navigate through the computer.
-Fast and easy since the user need not learn complex commands.
-Needs an OS such as Windows, to run which uses much RAM.
-limited to icons on screen
