Present Simple/Past Simple/WH questions

Here’s a simple (A1 level) explanation of Present Simple and Past Simple, plus easy practice
tasks.

🌱 1. Present Simple (A1)

📌 Use:

We use Present Simple for:


• daily routines
• facts
• things that are always true

🧩 Structure:

➤ Positive:
• I / You / We / They base verb
• He / She / It verb + s

Examples:
• I work every day.
• She works in an o ce.
• They play football.
• He plays football.

➤ Negative:
• I/You/We/They do not (don’t) + verb
• He/She/It does not (doesn’t) + verb

Examples:
• I don’t like co ee.
• She doesn’t like co ee.

➤ Questions:
• Do I/you/we/they + verb?
• Does he/she/it + verb?

Examples:
• Do you work?
• Does she work?

📌 Use:

We use Past Simple for:


• actions in the past

⚠ Some verbs are irregular:


• go went
• eat ate
• see saw

Examples:
• I went home.
• She ate pizza.

➤ Negative:
• did not (didn’t) + verb

Examples:
• I didn’t work.

• Did + subject + verb?

WH-words help us ask for information:

🧩 Structure:
• WH + do + I/you/we/they + verb

✅ Correct:

👉 After did, use base verb!

📌 Use:

Who = subject (the person does the action)

👉 Think: Who does it?

📌 Use:

Whom = object (the person receives the action)

⚠ At A1 level, “whom” is not very common. People usually say who.
