12-Step Recovery
Program
A path to lasting freedom
RIHAYEE
This document outlines the 12 Steps, a program designed to help individuals recover from addiction
and other life challenges. Each step includes a description, relevant Bible verses, and a reflection
question to encourage personal growth and spiritual understanding.
The 12 Steps RIHAYEE
Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over our addiction – that our lives had become
unmanageable.
Description: This step acknowledges the reality of our powerlessness and the need for a higher
power to help us overcome our addiction.
Bible Verses:
Romans 7:18 - "For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the
desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out."
Matthew 5:3 - "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Reflection Question: What areas of my life feel unmanageable, and how can I begin to surrender
control?
Step 2: Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
Description: This step involves opening ourselves to the possibility of a higher power that can restore
us to mental and emotional well-being.
Bible Verses:
Jeremiah 29:11 - "'For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"
Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Reflection Question: What does my ideal of a 'higher power' look like, and how can I connect with that
power?
Step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
Description: This step requires a conscious decision to surrender our will to God's guidance, trusting
in His wisdom and love.
Bible Verses:
Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in
all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be
given to you as well."
Reflection Question: What does it mean for me to 'turn my will' over to God, and what am I afraid of
surrendering?
Step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
Description: This step involves a thorough and honest examination of our past actions, identifying our
character defects and patterns of behavior.
Bible Verses:
Lamentations 3:40 - "Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord."
1 Corinthians 11:28 - "Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and
drink from the cup."
Reflection Question: What are the recurring patterns in my life that have caused harm to myself and
others, and what triggers these patterns?
Step 5: Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
Description: This step involves confessing our wrongdoings to God, ourselves, and another person,
taking responsibility for our actions.
Bible Verses:
James 5:16 - "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may
be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify
us from all unrighteousness."
Reflection Question: Who can I trust to share my inventory with, and what am I afraid of revealing?
Step 6: Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
Description: This step requires a willingness to let go of our character defects and allow God to
transform us into the people He intends us to be.
Bible Verses:
Psalm 51:10 - "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."
2 Corinthians 5:17 - "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has
gone, the new is here!"
Reflection Question: What character defects am I most resistant to letting go of, and why?
Step 7: Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
Description: This step involves humbly asking God to remove our shortcomings, acknowledging our
dependence on His grace.
Bible Verses:
Matthew 7:7 - "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be
opened to you."
Luke 11:9-10 - "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and
the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to
the one who knocks, the door will be opened."
Reflection Question: How can I cultivate humility in my life, and how does humility help me receive
God's grace?
Step 8: Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
Description: This step involves identifying those we have harmed and preparing to make amends,
taking responsibility for our actions and seeking reconciliation.
Bible Verses:
Matthew 5:23-24 - "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that
your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go
and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift."
Romans 12:18 - "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."
Reflection Question: Who have I harmed in my life, and what steps can I take to make amends?
Step 9: Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure
them or others.
Description: This step involves taking action to make amends to those we have harmed, seeking to
repair the damage we have caused.
Bible Verses:
Luke 19:8-9 - "But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, ‘Look, Lord! Here and now I give
half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back
four times the amount.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this
man, too, is a son of Abraham.'"
Acts 3:19 - "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of
refreshing may come from the Lord."
Reflection Question: How can I make amends in a way that is both honest and sensitive to the needs
of others?
Step 10: Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
Description: This step involves ongoing self-reflection and accountability, promptly admitting our
mistakes and taking corrective action.
Bible Verses:
1 Corinthians 10:12 - "So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!"
Galatians 6:1 - "Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit
should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted."
Reflection Question: How can I cultivate a habit of self-reflection and accountability in my daily life?
Step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we
understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
Description: This step involves seeking a deeper connection with God through prayer and meditation,
seeking guidance and strength to live according to His will.
Bible Verses:
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for
this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7 - "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which
transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Reflection Question: What practices help me connect with God, and how can I deepen my
relationship with Him?
Step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message
to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Description: This step involves sharing our experience, strength, and hope with others, and living
according to the principles of the 12 Steps in all areas of our life.
Bible Verses:
Matthew 28:19-20 - "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 - "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can
comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."
Reflection Question: How can I use my experience to help others find freedom and healing, and how
can I integrate these principles into my daily life?
