The Turtle and the Rabbit - Comprehension Worksheet

One sunny morning, a fast rabbit was hopping through the forest. He loved to boast about how quickly he could
run. When he saw a slow turtle walking along the path, he laughed loudly. “You are so slow!” said the rabbit. “I
could run around the whole forest before you even reach that tree.” The turtle stayed calm and replied, “Slow and
steady can still win a race.” The rabbit thought this was very funny. “A race? Against me?” he shouted. “You will
never beat me!” All the animals gathered to watch the race. The fox drew a starting line and a finish line near the
river. As soon as the fox shouted “Go!”, the rabbit dashed ahead. The turtle moved slowly but did not stop. After
running very far, the rabbit looked back and could not see the turtle anywhere nearby. “I have plenty of time,” he
thought. “I will rest under this tree for a little while.” Soon, the rabbit fell fast asleep. Meanwhile, the turtle kept
walking step by step. He did not rest, and he did not give up. After a long time, the turtle quietly passed the
sleeping rabbit and continued toward the finish line. When the rabbit finally woke up, he saw the turtle almost at
the end of the race. The rabbit ran as fast as he could, but it was too late. The turtle crossed the finish line first. All
the animals cheered loudly for the turtle. The rabbit felt embarrassed and learned an important lesson: never be
too proud of yourself.
